Additionally, I don't love using the vote-off version of arbitration with this. We displayed some (IMO) pretty appalling vote offs (side-eyes still-owned $3 Soto), but you either have a player break out and lose them immediately at the end of the year or they're kept at $3.
If we doing 5MiLB I'd prefer to go to allocation arbitration.
-
I get the Vlad point. Would it maybe be an option to be able to move currently owned players down, but when they are called up they are automatically assigned their current salary as it stands today? Vlad would likely only be on the Milb list for a few weeks and currently owned low minors players wouldn't continue to add to their salary until they are called up.
-
Agree with @Lawn that it shouldn't happen before this year's draft. There were late-season decisions we made that were based around certain prospects being attainable auction draft targets.
If we're adding it, I wouldn't want to implement it for this season.
I would say currently owned prospects wouldn't be able to be added to the 5MiLB list - otherwise you have Vlad Jr being 5MiLB'd and then added to a roster for $1 instead of his current salary.
-
@YM - oh right, sorry I didn't read the question properly! Personally I would say no, but I think we would have to agree that as a league as part of the introduction of the structure, were it to be introduced.

@Adios Pelota I'm talking about moving a player that I currently own and is on my 40 man roster right now. If this new rule comes in, could I move that player onto my 5Milb?
-
@Yorkshire Monarchs - Yes, that option is at your disposal, you can add for $1 whenever you please

I think the milb structure still leaves enough of a balancing act between short and long term, with the added benefit of increased depth and strategy re trading prospects.

I don't hate the idea but have a question which might help me make up my mind. Would there be an option to move players currently on 40 man rosters who have yet to play a major league game onto the 5Milb?
-
I also think that if we did that, it shouldn’t be before the auction because the top end guys would just get picked and it would just be a draft order thing, instead of giving every team the option of bid on them.
-
I’d prefer not adding the milb structure. I like having to balance the short and long term needs on the roster.
-
There is a good article with more info here, written by Joe Douglas, who designed the concept and co-authored the rules:
https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/ottoneu-101-the-5milb-structure
From hearing from people in leagues which operate the structure, both Phil and I feel that it will make the fantasy experience more immersive and enjoyable. What does everyone else think? Does anyone have any questions?

It would mean that prospects who are 2-3 years out from making their debuts can be introduced to the game proper when ready for $1, rather than $3-$6, and avoids league-wide inflation on prospects.
Minor leaguers would be picked in an offline, slow snake draft consisting of five rounds, conducted on the league's message board. The draft would have to be completed before we conduct the actual auction draft on March 17th.

Now the draft date is finalised, commissioners Phil and I are proposing that the league adopts a ‘5MiLB’ structure to add depth to the game and enhance our fantasy experience.
It would allow for up to 5 minor leaguers to be owned outside of the standard Ottoneu 40-man roster system for a salary of $0 each (with ownership and transaction history managed in a Google spreadsheet), and added to their 40-man roster for a $1 salary when they get called up to the bigs.

Awesome. See you all then!

Thank the heavens. We've got 100% consensus on one of the auction draft options: Sunday 17th March @ 4pm ET/8pm GMT. Mark your calendars!

Also, if we’re only able to get 10/11 of the teams whatever time slot we chose, if you’re the team(s) unable to make the draft you can post up in Slack and ask for someone to proxy draft for you.

Gentlemen. How does the weekend of 16th/17th March sound for the auction draft? I've created a poll with timing options for each day: https://doodle.com/poll/t8u7u5kgtknkq9b5. If you could all share your availability and preferences over the next 48 hours, we'll see if there's any consensus and set a date/time. Across all teams there are a little over 200 spots to fill on rosters, rather than the 480 this time last year. So am hoping we can smash out the auction over a few hours in one sitting.

Welcome to all the new owners! Been champing at the bit to begin draft prep and psyched that cuts are finished so we finally can start planning our draft targets.
Spring's almost here, gang. See you all in the draft.

Will see what I can do. Couple of other questions - is it right that the league fees are $20 per team? Any plans to use Slack again this year - it seemed to die last season?
-
Yeah we still need an owner for Waco Kids. We continue to try and get a new owner via various channels but if anyone has a friend they might think would be interested it would be great to get them involved.

Waco Kids are out for next season, just heard from one of their owners, and waiting on Rays in a Tank to come back to me. I've posted on the community forum and the slack channel requesting three owners.

Asking around in my other dynasty league (perfect world, we drag that whole thing kicking and screaming off of Y! and onto here), but I think we've got at least a nibble.

I'll get on slack in the next couple of hours. If anyone else has friends who want to get involved please spread the word.

Re: the draft. I should be able to do most weekend evenings if I have enough notice.
-
Also, draftwise we'll have conflicts 3/9-10 and 3/23-24. Any other weekend should be doable for us - the 3/16-17 weekend would be perfect. We're both East Coast guys, so drafting on a weekday evening for our European teams might be a little rough for us but we could make it work with enough notice.
-
Yeah, the #leagues-wanted Slack channel might be good. @Adios or @Chin, can one of you post our league up in there?
-
I'm a commish of another league and have had to set 2 teams as 'abandoned' today. I looked at the abandoned teams list just now and it's pretty big. It would be ideal to get interest from elsewhere like slack or we could be without new owners for a while.
-
So we have two teams that made no cuts and appear to be dead rosters, plus we know that Montreal has stepped aside. Have we posted these teams in the Slack or on the community board yet?
-

I'm in .. if draft is on or after mon March 11 (am traveling that week)... would be easier for me but will make anytime work.
