We’re in for next year as well

"V. ADDING AND DROPPING PLAYERS; i. If a team changes ownership, the new owner is given the opportunity to make one round of penalty-free cuts." Right you are, Lawn Mauer. Saves us a job!

Count me in for next season.
-
I’m definitely in for next year. And new owners get 1 round of penalty free cuts whenever they take over, so the commishs wont need to manually do it for them.
-
We’ll send around a poll for the best auction date/time nearer the time, but most likely it’ll be early-mid March. I know Special K has already confirmed for next year; would be helpful if we could get confirmations from others, too. 3/3

As for the couple of active teams in negative cap space. Commish’s can manually cut players from teams after the keeper deadline to allow owners to participate in the draft. I’m one of those teams in negative cap space; am just waiting on a couple of last-minute trades before making my cuts ;-) 2/3

Apologies. Commish Steve (Adios Pelota) and I met yesterday to chat ottoneu. We sent emails to the three owners who haven't logged in within the past seven days. Thus far we know Montreal Mystery won't be returning so we'll be offering up ownership on slack; ditto any others as necessary. We'll allow new owners to make cuts after the keeper deadline as they see fit (this seems fair to us but shout if anyone has any issues). 1/3

I suppose the concern for me is that we still have owners who are either leaving it to the last minute or aren't interested anymore. From experience it's normally the latter which means we have potentially half the owners not participating - which leaves the future of this league in some doubt. Also no response from either of the commish's on the question raised by Monroe Doctrine 5 days ago. Worrying.
-
If they don’t get below the $400 cap, they won’t be able to participate in the draft, is my understanding. They will continue with their current rosters. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Question - what happens if teams don't vote off the requisite players to get below the $400 cap by the 31 January which is the keeper deadline? Also do we have a full complement of owners returning as I've seen a few teams with little movement or cuts?

Players also have to renew their teams every year, so we'll know if a team is completely unattended. At that point we can post in the Slack or on the community board for new owners, should we need them.
-
Currently, we have seven teams that have negative available cap space. I'm wondering who is still going to be negative after the keeper deadline. Also, if we resort to the commissioner(s) removing players from teams, I wonder if that gives back the full salary of the removed player back to the team?

Reminder:
e. The auction process in each later year is the same as in year 1.
i. Teams that are not under roster limits as defined in VII. c. are not allowed to participate in the Auction Draft
ii. Commissioners have the right to remove players from teams that are over limits after the keeper deadline in order to allow them to participate in the Auction Draft. Commissioners should work with the other owners in the league and use their best discretion in making these types of roster moves.

Commish - at what point do we talk about replacing the teams that didn't participate in arbitration and haven't been active since Oct/Nov? Just curious about how this will shake out with the impending cut deadline. Thanks!

I'm putting Trout on the block, if anyone is interested in trading for the best player in the world message me and we can work out a deal.
-
Yeah, we've been chasing answers all season for some of that. I guess the non-penalized cuts before the keeper deadline is the tradeoff for not being able to go over during the draft.
-
Thanks, Monroe. That’s what I thought, but I was confused about being able to go over the salary cap and then cut players to get back under the cap, like we can do during the season.

Nope! And beyond that you always have to have at least one dollar available for each open roster spot remaining.
-
Are teams allowed to go over the $400 cap during the auction? I can’t remember.

I've only done one Ottoneu off-season before but my strategy was to look at projections, do some valuations based on them and see what players I owned whose salary was way over their projected value and cut the ones I believed were projected about right.
-
Yup. We're all going to be cutting players once we get closer to the deadline. Until then its open season on trades.
-
So, since I (and most of us) are currently over the cap, I'll need to cut/trade players to get below the cap before the keeper deadline, right? It doesn't seem like many of us have cap space available to facilitate trades that would get the rest of us below the cap, so it seems that we will all be mostly cutting players to get under the cap, right?. I'm trying to figure out what the strategy here is, and make sure I understand things clearly. Thanks, y'all.

Well, I stand corrected! I'm not sure about that. I guess there should be a commissioner intervention to force an owner to cut someone?
-
Nevermind, I just re-read the rules and saw this: "After the keeper deadline and before the auction draft, teams may not cut or trade any players." I also see this in the rules, "...therefore following the keeper deadline, a team salary must never exceed $360 + the number of players on the roster." What will happen if a team exceeds the ($360 + number of players) between the keeper deadline and the auction draft?

That is correct. Got to make sure we all cut before midnight on Jan 31st.
-
Hi, all, I hope everyone is well. Question, if we cut someone after the keeper deadline, we will take the half-salary cap penalty, is that correct?

This is my first off-season (so fair warning), but my understanding is that if you decide not to keep a player you get full salary relief for that player.
