It was the lone silver lining in what was a very frustrating end to my evening. Worked from home, watched Jake and Max duel and then Verlander settling in after a shaky first inning...and then our ace goes out and does *that*. Ugh. Eovaldi gonna carry us tonight, at least.
-
At least you're not the poor soul who started Sale yesterday...
-
I did until Chris Sale turned into mid-00's Ollie Perez. But hey, it's game 1 of 162.
-
Thanks, Blue Sox! Hope everyone enjoyed Opening Day.

Happy Opening Day, everyone! To our European leaguemates, enjoy an evening of baseball. To those of us in the states, hopefully you've been able to find a way to watch or listen while you're at work.

Oh yeah I said I'd post details of mine and Phil's (Chin Music) new podcast. It's all about baseball books and episode one is going to be discussing Moneyball. Check out the very brief preview episode for a flavour of what's to come : Listen to this episode of my podcast, Reading the Game, Prologue - The Launch Episode https://anchor.fm/rtgpod/episodes/Prologue---The-Launch-Episode-e3ev0l

Just in case anyone's interested, Joe and I run a website called Franchise Sports at franchisesports.co.uk.

Should open in 9 minutes

At what time does the draft open?
-
You can also see who a player was RFA'd by in the draft room.
-
Awesome. Thanks.
-
I don't know an easy way to find them, but the full list is: JDM, Yelich, Story, Baez, Verlander, Cole, Benintendi, Snell, Nola, Bauer, Chapman, and Price
-
Hey all. Does anyone know of an easier way to find a list of the RFA players voted off each team in arbitration? The only way I can find is by looking at contract status on individual player pages. Cheers and see you all tomorrow!
-
Just a little heads up about tomorrow's auction - less than 24 hours to go now! 4pm EST / 8pm GMT
-
Nice try, KIDROBOT :)

I've made the change to the arbitration system; from Vote Off to Allocation. With 8/12 confirmed in favour of the change and no-one opposed to it, seemed like a sensible, democratic decision.

I’m in an agreement on the proposal to move to allocation.
-
Scanning the league message board we seem to have Lawn Mauer, Yorkshire Monarchs, Monroe Doctrine, Bases Loaded and Special K's happy to move to an allocation arbitration system. Does anyone have any objections to switching?

Vote-off just seems unfair to me, especially to teams lower down the league. Altogether losing a breakout player will severely hinder a rebuilding process compared to just a salary increase. With allocation the pain of only having a small amount of talent on your roster is spread out by having them all hit instead of just one,
-
I'm not sure how I feel about either the allocation system or the vote-off system, since player salaries are increased at the end of the year anyway. But of the two, I think I prefer the allocation system because it gives more control to the team owner.

We are all for moving to an allocation system.
-
No it is 8pm UK. The east coast is only 4 hours behind for a few weeks in march because they put their clocks forward a bit before the UK.
-
Oops - just seen it. To check is that 9pm UK?
-
Do we have a date set for the draft? Just trying to get my schedule sorted and I can see me doing a few drafts at the same time at this rate!
-
I'm very much in favour of allocation over vote-off. I didn't mind either way about 5MiLB hence my lack of input but this is something I'm definitely behind.
-
I wouldn't have a problem with moving to an allocation arbitration.
-
What would people think of switching from a vote-off to an allocation style arbitration system in future years?
-
Thanks very much for all the feedback on the 5MILB structure. Co-commish Phil and I have decided that on balance it doesn’t make sense to introduce it in this league as there is no fair way to do so. Lots of owners have committed cap space to prospects, and it would disadvantage them to bring in 5MILB now. So we will proceed as planned with the regular auction on March 17th at 4pm EST / 8PM GMT.

I'm in another Ottoneu league and we have 12 minor leaguers on Google sheets with the MILB draft taking place after the auction. Snake draft and once those players obtain 50IP or 150 AB they have to be promoted to your Ottoneu roster. Mostly just an excuse to have another draft but also makes you do a little digging for players.
-
I guess I didn't reload the message board before asking my last question, because there was a lot that I missed.
Having caught up, my initial concerns with the MiLB proposal are:
1. How to do this fairly considering the minor leaguers that were already drafted.
2. Snake draft
3. Managing outside of Ottoneu
4. In-season MiLB pickups and drops?
I'm voting for keeping things the same for 2019 unless we can all get together and discuss.

If we are going to do this, the suggestion from @Yorkshire a few messages down is probably the only way to do it fairly. Got to let people shift currently owned prospects off their 40 man roster if they want, but can't give them the benefit of reducing the salary. Regardless, we'd somewhat prefer not to make the switch at all, and certainly not pre-2019-draft. Appreciate the discussion all the way around though!
-
From my perspective I took a long term view last year and bought quite a few prospects. Whilst I can understand the 5 MiLB concept I'd be slightly miffed if that meant that my strategy last season was for nought.
-
How would that affect minor leaguers that we currently have on our rosters?

I feel like that’s a choice owners should have to make with far away prospects. I bought Soto last year fully expecting to have to keep him in the minors for a year or two. I don’t want to add the milb draft. I would be okay with an allocation arbitration system in the future though (side-eyes cut $24 Chapman).
-
It seems unfair to those who have players in A ball or AA to count against the salary cap but others don't, just for having the forethought to acquire them.
