just a reminder--only a little over two weeks to complete arbitration. there are four owners who haven't completed their nominations yet, though one of them confirmed that he would do it by the deadline. the other three either need to complete the process or likewise promise to do so by sending me a message, no later than Nov. 7. arbitration keeps the league competitive and fun, and it only takes a few minutes.

I'm just thanking the old gods and the new that no one has thrown any money at Porcello yet.
-
What?! Scooter Gennett hasn't attracted even $1 of arbitration yet? Yay for me.
-
Arbitration open, just got mine in! Good luck and wisdom for everyone.
-
1) players with MLB experience go up by $2, those without $1. 2) you can choose how you want to divide up your max of $3 per team. You must allocate at least $1 to each of the other 11 teams though. 3) no vote off system. I wouldn't play if we had that system

Couple of questions on the upcoming arbitration: 1) Are all player salaries going up $1 or $2 (as outlined in Offseason, section b)? 2) In the allocation phase, if I choose to give a team $3, can I spread it to three different players or does it go on only one player? 3) Are we doing the vote off system?
-
If anyone is willing to take on some salary, I will be looking to shed some high cost- yet elite- players.

yep, you don't allocate to yourself. and just a reminder everyone, completing arbitration is mandatory to stay in this league. please either complete your arbitration a week before the deadline, or send me an email by then confirming that you'll complete your allocations before the deadline. we need the extra time to find a replacement owner for anyone who drops out.

Arbitration rule: "c. Each team must allocate at least one dollar to every other team, and no team can allocate more than $3 to any other team."
I assume this means we allocate dollars to our 11 opponents, not to our own team, correct?

Congragulations to P&E, great job on a well earned victory. Gladly made my donation to a deserving charity.
-
done.
-
Thanks everyone! I matched your generous donations. I'll also be pulling for the Twins tomorrow--what a remarkable comeback from a 100 loss season last year. Hopefully the Tigers can pull of a similarly successful rebuild with the number 1 pick in the upcoming draft.

Definitely a worthy charity. Donation made.

Congratulations P&E! That's one helluva a season! And thanks again for welcoming me aboard. Really enjoyed the league and look forward to coming back next year. And now it's time for Twins v. Yankees -- definitely would be a good time for a nice little upset.

Dave Congrats on winning the league awesome job . PS Just made my Donation . Chuck

thanks Panik! and thanks to everyone for the congratulations--it takes a lot of luck to win this thing (unexpected breakouts, injury avoidance, etc.)--and i'm especially happy to come out over such a group of knowledgeable, determined owners. as for the charity, i'd like to change to UNICEF USA and their Puerto Rico relief efforts. https://www.unicefusa.org/donate/support-unicef-usas-hurricane-relief-efforts-puerto-rico/32952

You still happy with MSF?
-
P.S., I think some of us had a charity bet? Looks like P&E makes the call.
-
I should second P&E -- I had a choice between my roster and Dichromatic's and wrote his off as hopeless. One of the best drafts I've seen in any league.
-
1. Congrats to P&E. I knew he'd be tough to beat & 20,000 doesn't surprise me, but Blue Ballers, you almost had him in the end. 2. I agree that we have a good group of owners. I had a lot of fun. 3. Thanks to all my trade partners, even the ones that screwed me. *cough David Price cough* 4. Tweaks to the rules will improve morale! 5. Onward to arbitration.
-
Hopefully my comments didnt come off as untrustworthy. Sugary has been a great owner here and I trust him completely. Just another loophole that needs to be closed so that its clear for all and I just voiced my own inion on how we could do it. I got Desomd and immediately made the cut Sugary did the same thing as you would expect him to.
-
Not that I'll trade him for a bargain basement price--just that his salary is potentially bargain basement if he goes back to being Miggy.
-
If you think that he will, in fact, get healthy and turn it around next year, he's available for trade at a potentially bargain-basement price!
-
is miguel cabrera the most unexpected collapse? hopefully he can get healthy and turn it around next year.

my wife thinks Sugary has the best name, so that's worthy of recognition, i think (though I'm partial to Panik!). price-adjusted MVP goes to Muskie's $4 Aaron Judge, with honorable mention to Harmon's Jose Ramirez. best in-season move is a tie between Sugary's Tommy Pham and 4 Baggers Ryan Zimmermann (he had 2 doubles and 2 HRs at the game i went to Friday).

I'm on board with maintaining roster limits through year-end as suggested by Gsellman
-
on the whole, it's been another fun, competitive season. hats off to dichromatic for possibly the most impressive rebuild effort i've ever seen. and congrats to all the owners who stayed active and competitive through the entire season.

I think if there's any deficit in trust on my end, it's simply the fact that I'm new to the format and don't see these issues coming.
-
Sugary, I had no beef with the fact that you did it -- I didn't know the rules -- I only meant that I didn't like that it was legal, and wanted to be on record with respect to that. FWIW I was assuming that you would make cuts and comply, I just didn't know you could bid over your limits. It probably wouldn't have changed anything about my bidding (I'm not sure the version of Ryan Braun that's worth $23 is coming back, but maybe I'm wrong!)
-
Fair--calling it unsportsmanlike was a bridge too far. Sorry, Sugary.
-
On a lighter note, congratulations to P&S on a pretty dominant season. I really thought I would pull it out there at the end, but apparently my squad wasn't able to muster the 5,000 points I needed to overtake him on the last day.
We've got a passionate group of guys in this league, which always makes for good competition. Hopefully we can calm down a bit of the tense moments that tend to come along with it next year - everyone enjoy the playoffs, and let's go Anybody-But-The-Yankees.
-
What we do have in this league is a serious deficit in trust. It seems that there are several owners in this league that are overly sensitive and quick to jump to conclusions whenever they see something that does not satisfy their interpretation of what is sportsmanlike. If you don't like the rules that are programmed in Ottoneu, fine! Let's discuss them and see if we can come to an agreement about better rules.
-
I believe the original suggestion was to cut players until Tuesday, which I was always going to comply. However, even before being able to do anything, I have already been accused of unsportsmanlike behaviour, even though what I did was absolutely within the rules of Ottoneu, though it might come across as opportunistic.
-
thanks for doing that voluntarily, sugary.

Sugary Drinks's trade block has been updated!
-
Ok, makes sense to not make it retroactive, I suppose. We should vote on a number of rule changes during the offseason. we can do that once we're through arbitration l.

I agree with Muskies. If Sugary can't or won't get under the limits then he stretched the rules beyond the spirit but didn't technically break them. No retroactive punishment. Let's fix it for next year. Truly, Sugary didn't get much of an advantage. Those acquired players don' have much surplus value.
-
I don't think the roster-packing is the most sportsmanlike approach, but Sugary's not doing anything that violates the Ottoneu rules. If we're going to adopt a league-specific rule prohibiting what he did (and I would support such a rule), I don't think it's fair of us to do it retroactively. Announce it for next offseason, but we shouldn't decide that we (correctly) dislike the (legal) thing he did and tell him after the fact that he can't do it.
-
That solution is fine w me.

40 plus however many 60 day DL guys you have. Stick with the limitations through the end of the year. IMO
-
50 seems excessive to me. Based on the slack thread, it seems that other leagues that have encountered this situation limit teams to 45 players, including 60-day DL slots. What do other ppl think?

I guess nothing would stop people from bidding 500 bucks, but then why would that be useful? The players I put up for auction are all worth owning according to projections, so I put them up. I guess other owners didn't agree, because only one guy was snatched up by another owner. So now I have 50 players.... I am not exactly sure what I deserve blame for: for auctioning? For winning auctions (most of them were won by default for the minimum price as nobody else bid)? anything illegal?
-
Sugary now has 50 players.

With no penalty for getting under the cap & under the player limit at end of season, what would stop someone from bidding $500 on every available free agent? I'm not casting any blame yet on Sugar. He might have a plan for getting under cap and player limit.
-
Yeah, I didn't know you could go over the cap to pick up those players. I don't like that.
-
I had negative points on the last day...a fitting end
-
Lol, how likely was that
