I am somehow mad about both sides of that Scherzer/Hoskins deal. Sign of a good trade?

So let's imagine you having a $50 Harper. You use $10 in coupons on him, dropping him to $40 pre-regular arbitration. If other teams only tag him with $7 in arbitration, his new salary is $47. Is that what you're asking?

forfeit the remainder of your coupon allocated to that player.

wildman--just so i understand, let's say you use part of your coupon on a guy, and he's hit with less than that amount in arb dollars. then his salary doesn't go up in arb at all, but you forfeit the remainder of your coupon. is that right?

The 3rd/4th columns represent the taxes that team would pay on those allocation amounts. For example, if that team with 16751 points had brought in $50 in loans throughout the season, he could incur a 50% hit, therefore dropping his arb coupon dollars down to $9. You cannot trade away these coupon coupons. Your loans are strictly based on the dollars you bring in (as in you cannot subtract loans you send to others- You still fall in the $50-74 category if you bring in $60 and send away $30.

The first two columns in the spreadsheet are directly tied to how many points your team scores in a season. In other words, you're competing against the point tiers, not the other owners. For example, a team scoring 16751 points would receive $18 they can use to lower the pre-regular arbitration salaries of any player they choose, as long as the player remains at $1 or higher. A team with $18 to allocate can dedicate that entire amount on one player or split it up as much as he pleases.

Got it - thank you!
-
No worries, I'll gladly explain. The entire purpose of this system is to prevent teams from taking on super high loans (some other leagues have had winning teams in excess of $600), which forces other teams to quickly become buyers or sellers early in the season (hint: most become sellers). Having penalties against bringing in over $50 in loans makes it so that more teams are able to compete in the standings for longer periods of time.

So what do these coupon dollars do exactly? I'm sorry, this is a brand new feature for me... I'm looking at the excel sheet and it may as well be in a foreign language.
-
This is the system I use in another Otto league that's been working fairly well in limiting teams from ballooning their rosters to very high dollar amounts. I'm assuming this is what Schimpf is referring to- Schimpf, is this assumption correct?

Looks like Ohtani might be available in the draft this year, although there's one more hurdle left to clear with MLB Players Assoc. If he does play for an MLB team, then Ottoneu will allow him to slot as a hitter or pitcher on any given day, but not both. So if he's a starting pitcher in Colorado on a given day, the owner could slot him as a hitter that day. Seems like he might be a pretty valuable fantasy player in this format.

Oh, I agree--no coupons until 2018.

The reason that coupons must come first is that it affects how the market wants to "fix" salaries. For example, imagine if I had a $20 Lindor and $20 Correa and $18 of coupons to use. If I wanted to use all $18 on Lindor, the market should have the opportunity to correct that as much as it can/wants to, because we all know a $2 Lindor will get hit harder than a $20 Correa

The arbitration coupon idea seems intriguing. Let's try it. I'd like to be able to drop re-auctioned players after 30 days, instead of the current situation which allows for immediate drops, but I can live with a no drop rule change.

Are we talking about the arb system that I mentioned a while ago that I have in another league? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1la-vq_bawyYhgeu92L8zOWOIovvPzzyb2wD1hzZq0dU/edit?usp= If so, these changes can't go into effect until next offseason because it is crucial arb dollars get put in before regular arbitration because it really affects how owners use their $25 on the other 11 owners.

One thing that isn't up for debate is that this is a free trade league. No trades will be vetoed unless we have compelling evidence of collusion. Feel free to complain about trades, but they won't be reversed.

We should also discuss rule amendments: do we want to prohibit reauctioning cut player? Do we want to give arbitration coupons for the top finishers, subject to the loans they take out?

hey gentlemen... trying to allocate for arbitration now but I'm having a tough time figuring out how to do so. I'm on the arbitration page and it says I have all $25 left to allocate... how do I do that from here, though? Apologies for being the lone dummy in the room.
