Whats the story on Speedwagon?

Thank you for welcoming me to the league. I was looking for a competitive league as a step up from my home league and it seems like I have found that here. I look forward to playing with all of you in the coming years.

I tried to get Fainting Goats to stay, but he had additional reasons for not staying in the league. He said,
" I have changed my mind not entirely because of the message board controversy but also because if I am going to play at the 100$ level I would like it to be in a new league with a start up draft." So I will move forward to recruit another team.
-
Please remove me from this league and mark my team as dead. I feel hesitant about joining a preexisting league with active controversy and disagreement about the basic rules set forth by Ottoneu. I'm sorry if I have wasted anyone's time.
Thank you,
Sid.

I am not suggesting a new start. Originally I had ideas that I thought would improve the league so it would continue for a long time. If I had my wishes all teams would renew early to show commitment to the league. We wouldn't have to worry about owners quitting before the season began. We should probably get a consensus of opinion to handle situations as they arise. I will try to recruit a new owner for RIP. Speed has promised me he will have his allocations done before the deadline
-
Just so everyone understands--the reason the league did so well is we STARTED OVER WITH NEW AUCTION-so everyone started fresh--in spring training everyone is a winner--nobody has lost a game. HOPE springs eternal in spring training--reality sets in and it does NOT finish that way! If you are suggesting a new start--then I'm out. This is our 1ST offseason, so far two teams haven't done allocations{2 of 12}, what about cut deadline, again trades, last if someone waits until last, then quits?

I am done with these issues. I am OK with moving on and seeing how the league develops.
-
And turnover sometimes can be great. Proof of that is this league itself. This league folded. We were all brand new owners to this league last year. Our league was one of the best on Ottoneu last year. Stats to prove it. We did not have a dead owner to hurt the league. Most folks are not paying 100 bucks to be a dead owner. And if it does happen, Ottoneu has a great system to allow a good owner take it over at half price. If we keep the same owners we had last year, we are golden.

Now find me that rule that confirms RIP should be booted. It's not there. Hell, the deadline hasn't even passed yet. Do you know if RIP wasn't gonna allocate? Read the section regarding allocations. Where does it state all teams must allocate or get booted? Before or even after the deadline? Explain to me why it hurts the league as bad as you describe if all teams don't allocate. I prefer all teams allocate and stay active also. I did my allocations weeks ago. But you can't enforce it

Can we agree that there is/was absolutely no evidence at all to determine all this doom to the league you are assuming? We are 9 days from the deadline still. RIP did nothing wrong to get booted. Can we agree that Ottoneu has rules already in place for the league?

Can we agree that leagues who have people who don't participate, are more likely to have more turnover? Can we agree that turnover is not good in most instances for a healthy league? Most owners who leave don't think the team they own will compete, or they have problems with trades that were made. I never veto a trade--assuming that both are trying to win, collusion is just way to hard to prove--one mans crap is another mans gold.

And I'm not complaining by the way. I like this league. I am very competitive and keep up on a regular basis even in the offseason. I'm really not RIPs lawyer here..lol Just want to go ahead and get it established that rules are already in place. Let's stop with the trying to implement new ones and follow the program already in place. And don't boot owners unless it is completely necessary, unlike the situation we just had. No let's move on from this and prepare my trophy.

All the owners in this league were very competitive and active in this league. Why should anyone assume it's different now or not take RIP for his words that he was playing again. Stop overreacting and let this good group we have here play out as it goes. Let it be and step in when there is an actual issue. And keep it within the current settings and rules set in place by Ottoneu.

As in any fantasy leagues, you'll have some check it daily, some not so much. Not everyone is gonna check you emails or website daily or even weekly. Most folks don't put their primary email down for fantasy leagues and don't always check it. It's their choice how much time they spend on this. You can't enforce that on a public site like this. You hope you end up getting a good group that is active. I really think we do.

Question--why does ottoneu even offer allocations if the intent is not to use it? Judging by your logic we should advocate that nobody does allocations, and should be berating those who do so! Question-is there a reason that anyone should be booted?

I would prefer all teams allocate. If they don't then it's really not that big a deal. Certainly not dooming the league. Bottom line is follow the rules that are already in place from Ottoneu. Whether you agree or not. If you want them changed, contact Ottoneu or go find a website that fits the league preferences you prefer. At least Ottoneu has structure in place and it seems to work if you will just sit back and let them work.

There is risk of a bad owner every year in every league. This league is still new. You hope to keep the good owners and add more good ones to replace the bad ones when Ottoneu rules in place work to find them. Not your assumption something is wrong. And if a team doesn't allocate, it doesn't give any unfair advantage. If anything, it just allows all teams to get one of their better value players a bit cheaper than expected. All teams benefit actually.

I don't blame him for not reclaiming. No structure set if he gets booted again. Might be another too quick assumption reaction again. You don't get to set deadlines, Ottoneu does. The common sense you speak of is follow the rules already in place, don't assume, don't overreact, and fix a problem when there actually becomes one. Any preferences you have, contact Ottoneu and see if they can make it a league setup option.

Too much assuming going on here. Do you know he wasn't coming back? He posted he was. You didn't even give the guy the timeframe you stated. You assumed and reacted. You shouldn't have that power to do so in those circumstances. And how does Niv pretty much support something. They either do or don't. If you want that kind of control, you need to start up a private league. This is open to public. Rules are set by Ottoneu.

I admit I was a little aggressive in booting RIP, but these emails with him have gone on for 8 days now and the team is still available to be claimed. But he has done nothing to get it back. Do you really think he intended to come back next year?
-
Last year we had a couple of teams who intended not to renew their team until after the draft. Our draft date was something like Mar 23. Their teams were set to renew after the draft date. I gave them a deadline of Mar 8 to pay for their teams. They chose to ignore me. So I put their teams as abandoned and recruited 2 new teams. Niv pretty much supported me in my move. Can you imagine what could have happened if those teams participated in the draft and then bailed.
-
Allocations why have them? Sometimes even though time is set in advance people don't show up for the draft? Keeper deadline expires-owner forgets to cut-bails out of league, new owner stuck? Yes rules exist--but so does common sense..

OK, so does it make sense to you that anyone not do allocations, why have them? How about someone makes trades and decides that he doesn't like his team the day before his renew date? Its hard to get people to pay attention in the off season to trades, you don't agree to make people accountable ?

Also, even if you were able to make your own rules up(which your not), stick to what you post. On October 20th(read your post), you stated you would give owners until Nov. 14th. You would contact them by Nov. 7th. RIP may have had that understanding. He could have changed his email, out of town, etc. He should not have been booted. Understand, I agree with your intentions and preferences. You've done a good job as Commish. Its a good league. But stick to Ottoneu rules. Thanks

If you would like to start up a league with the preferences, opinions, two cents, etc., then it will have to be done in a private type league on a website that has those options available. Those rules can be established and known before a commitment is made. I would be interested. I do not disagree with your opinions and preferences. But you can't add new rules or boot owners on this website because of your preferences. Again, rules are already in place set by Ottoneu. Let's stick to them.

RIP should not be in a position to claim his team back. He should not have been booted. We are not required to pay until the expiration date either. Not required to have trade restrictions before we renew. Folks can vote on trades. You need to encourage everyone to vote on trades and that will fix those potential issues. Again, you cannot make up your own rules on this website. Follow the rules already in place by Ottoneu.

Your not getting it. Your two cents, opinions, preferences, etc,. doesn't matter. Your beef is to contact Ottoneu and get them to change the rules in place and listed(top right hand corner) that owners have/had an understanding of when they committed to playing in the Ottoneu league. Not Aces league, not my league. OTTONEU LEAGUE! THERE ARE RULES ALREADY IN PLACE. You cannot boot teams out when they have not broken any rules or did anything wrong.

I would like the whole league to participate in trading at the same time. I would like to propose that all teams be paid for by January 1, 2017.
-
That is an option. We could agree not to make trades until all teams are paid for. I just want to leave plenty of time before the auction draft to recruit team(s) in case somebody decides to drop out.
-
Another way--only the teams making trades are required to pay BEFORE the trade can go thru. Still leaves us with allocations and March 24th! March 25 th would then be the first day possible for the auction?

IMO it is always MUCH BETTER to have Committed owners! Commitment is very hard to fake, everyone should pay before any trades, and before the auction, allocations are so EVERY team has a harder road ahead-NOT SOME TEAMS-leagues should have rules--if you don't like them choose another one--just like churches, or sports teams, or cars, or Senators!

We have 7 teams whose renewal dates are March 24 or after. We can not have an auction draft until all those teams are paid for well in advance of the draft. The way I view it, if you purchase a team it is for that baseball year. I don't think your renewal date gives you the right to hold that team until the due date.
-
I think the real issue here is team and league commitment. Mookie asked on Nov 2 if we were renewing now. I think that is a good idea. After arbitration ends we can start making trades. I think all teams should be paid for before any trades are allowed. What's to stop a team from dropping out because they didn't agree with a trade and their renewal time is not yet due.
-
He may have posted on Oct 1 that he was returning but he has not answered my 3 emails to him regarding if he is indeed staying. He may have changed his mind since then. I let him know if he did not get back to me, I would mark his team as abandoned. The team is still available to be claimed so he can claim it if he wants.

If a team is not keeping up during the season in an obvious manner, then I can see booting that team. It's the offseason, hasn't missed any deadlines, broken any rules in place. You don't get the authority to boot. I appreciate your thinking and understand your intentions, but let's comply with the rules set forth by Ottoneau.
