So far Mookie, Winnersville and Aces are in favor of everybody paying their fees in December. How do others in the league feel?

December 1st would be better, but I will go along with the rest of the league!

I agree with Mookie. We just have too many teams with renewal dates in March which could potentially cause problems. I move that we have a league vote to have everybody pay their fees by a certain date no matter what your renewal date is. This really will make our league stronger. I think that the date should be by December 31. Any other opinions on the date?

As far as Rizzo----I hope so!

I really think allowing trades to happen before people pay is bad idea. I think the commish should ask everyone to pay up immediately. This is my only league where that isn't the case.

Is Rizzo really a keeper at $56?
-
Um, anyone care to discuss the latest trade?

My mistake. Your are correct McCheese. So based on the rules it is pretty hard to veto any trade.

Haha. Wow, throwing out insults! Nice! Good thing Im far from a snowflake and Aces that is wrong. It takes 7 veto votes no matter how many people vote. It's in the rules boys.

LOL! Here is an extreme example. One person vetos a trade. But the other 11 owners say "I'm fine with it and move on, but don't cast their vote. Another example. I read that an estimated 90 million eligible voters did not cast their vote in the 2016 Presidential Election!

Guys just because you don't hit the I accept this trade button doesn't mean you haven't voted. You have! You have said I'm ok with the trade. The only reason you need to vote is to veto. Abstained votes doesn't mean the owner hasn't looked at the trade and said Im fine with it and moves on. I usually don't vote unless I veto.

Agree with you W. What is the big deal with having to pay early. Sooner or later you will have to pay for the team anyway. May as well be now to put all owners at ease.
-
Well, I guess it's my trade that your talking about. Cruz is great{but 36}, Polanco{25} was the jewel in the trade---I like Archer{even though he plays on a bad team, in a tough division},careful or I might talk myself out of the trade{just funning} and Eaton is very good--both of whom have 3 to 4 good years left in them{I can't say that about Cruz}! So I am happy and I guess Robots was also! I still think paying BEFORE trading before is the way to go!

You took the words right out of my mouth McCheese! Exactly! What he said. Damn! Stop that mess already. Just let the shit work. If you want something to do, then post about owners actually voting Accept or Veto. So sick of Abstained votes win again. Which, I am guilty of on this past trade. I've been very sick the past week. Last thing on my mind was that trade. I woulda allowed it though.

Did you notice 6 teams abstained from voting on our recent trade in the league.
-
Just to let everybody know, we have 8 teams with expiration dates in March. Some as late as March 29. Before we can have an auction draft all teams must be paid for before then.
-
2/2 ...because every owner making a trade will have to weigh the risk/reward of the trade he is making, and then live with the consequences. It creates the ultimate laissez-faire environment, in which every owner can run his team as he pleases, without risk of pissing anyone off. Good owners are rewarded for smart decisions, and bad owners can't luck their way to success with tanking-oriented NO-RISK fire sales that arbitrarily screw other guys who are giving their best effort.
-
In addition, any criteria that requires one to "evaluate' if a trade "would be done in REAL MLB" is the very reason that the Veto system is flawed. The beauty of a trade is in the eye of the beholder. Of course if I have given up on the season, it makes sense for me to make any trade that sacrifices the present for a potential better future (because the present means NOTHING, so there is NO RISK). So long as the present (season) always means SOMETHING, there is no need to "vo
-
With all due respect, RIP, MLB is definitely NOT a good role model for an anti-tanking discussion. MLB is a mess, as is the NBA, and NHL. They don't realize it, but it is coming back to bite them. I am suggesting we should rise above the anti-competitive stance that more and more Major League organizations seem to be taking and strive to COMPETE. After all, isn't that the SPIRIT OF THE GAME???
-
also, if a trade is a trade that would be done in REAL MLB, then it should be ok here. As in the trades that occur around the trade deadline.

My thoughts...Teams should have to pay prior to any trades in the off season. That protects against cheating that occurs in $$ leagues, when a team makes up a fake email and assumes a team to make a trade to his other team. But u should not lose time off the year that u own that team. In other words if a teams not due to be paid till March and u have to pay early in the off season because u assumed that team in November, u shouldn't lose that 5 months.

Thank you, Mookie, for the cogent thoughts on incentives. I have no problem with teams cutting bait and looking to the future in a lost season, but there must be some kind of risk involved with arbitrarily giving away good players (and cap space) in exchange for minor leaguers. It totally changes the dynamics of the competition, and quite frankly, is not "sporting." The challenge should be to rebuild without doing a complete teardown into an embarrassment. Every trade should involve ri
-
If we were to make this league a more committed league. what would you suggest to be the paid deadline?
-
I'm not sure we need to kick out the last placed team every year, but the cahmpions league for example has incentives in place to encourage competition between the teams at the bottom, to make it worthwhile trying to finish 8th instead 9th, etc.
-
Many leagues do this. I would venture most competitive pay leagues do this. Passive leagues are a dime dozen, so no one is being denied the opportunity to be in a passive league if we choose to make our league a bit tougher.
-
Yeah, I just claimed a team, and the league the had all agreed to that all returning owners would pay before arbitration and told me I had to pay immediately if I wanted to stay, which I did, cause I think it's a good rule. The other league I was in last year (301) does the same. I hope we will eventually do this as well. There is nothing wrong with leagues adding their own rules in addition to the base rules provided by Ottoneu as long as they don't violate the spirit of the original rules.
-
That is my feeling also. I was looking at teams to claim. Here is the message sent a commissioner, "Beyond the allocation deadline,we would like to ensure all teams coming back for 2017 have their league fee in before the keeper deadline. While we know most of us are not due to renew until after that date, its the only fair way to ensure all teams have a committed manager."
-
As I have said in the past, I don't think trades should be allowed until the teams making the trades are paid up for the next year! Prevents making bad trades and then leaving!

I echo the sentiment of the Commish. Even though Veto systems are inherently flawed and don't often work in practice as they do in theory, it's worth a try. The dum(b)p trades in this format are epidemic! If we want to really make this league top-notch, instead of arguing about kicking out teams who don't do their Allocations, how about kicking out the team that finishes LAST?!? That would REALLY raise the level of competition, which should be what this is all about.
-
I encourage every one to vote on all trades if you want your voice to be heard. Remember every vote counts!
