Just to clarify, the draft is officially ending tonight too, right? So trades and drops can commence?
-
Niv must be on vacation because I still haven't heard back how auction ties will be handled. Can anyone top my not-keeping Dan Murphy at 3 and having him go for 9? That's a 3x difference at a position I need!
-
I like Pillar's 48-hour auction plan.

Chasing (Steve) Avery's trading block has been updated!

Pickoff Psychosis's trading block has been updated!

How the hell did I end up with Alex Rios? I blame alcohol.
-
How the hell did I wind up paying more for Heyward than it would have cost me to keep Upton?
-
The one upside of doing all this SOOO early is that we don't have to rush to fix things. I'm pretty sure the "full lineup" rule is only for the auction ending automatically. I can end it manually at any time, at which point trades and cuts will be doable.
-
So, I guess you can't drop players while the draft is "in progress" either. I will put myself at the mercy of the league on this one. I'm sorry for not reading the rules more carefully. Pillar, can you manually remove players and add cap penalties?
-
So, i guess no trades for now. (I definitely see some value in trades being allowed during the auction (and between auction sessions)....)
-
VI.a "a. Trades shall be allowed during the season from the conclusion of the annual player auction"
-
II.d "Each owner must conclude the auction capable of filling out a starting lineup." II.e "Each owner can leave the auction at any time after fulfilling the requirement in line d. above. Once all 12 owners have left the auction, the auction is complete."
-
The rule for defining the end of the auction is in clause II.e and VI.a defines when trading can commence. Blah.
-
...but I'm curious, considering our potentially modified draft format, does anyone know when we'll be able to start making trades?
-
I'll apologize now as, due to poor planning, I've left myself with no MI or 5th RP. The rules state that each player must leave the draft capable of filling out a starting lineup. I have no problem cutting a few guys to fix that...
-
Queen City Mashers's trading block has been updated!
-
I think it'd be random.
-
Either is fine with me. How would tiebreakers work in the 48-hour auction though since there are no current standings?
-
Sorry had to run. Two screaming kids demanding dinner. Which is also my excuse for spending $9 on Murphy. Seriously, what was I thinking with that one

Yeah, some logical setup can be figured out, I'm sure. What we don't want is like 40 auctions at once and being stuck with "well, I want guy B if I don't get guy A, but I have to bid on both at once..."
-
I'm willing to say that if the three teams with many fewer players than the rest, Pickoff, Chasing, and Blood want to forgo the rest of the auction, we do so. I'd like to stagger 48-hour auctions though.
-
I wouldn't mind another 2-hour auction session; this one went fine. There was also some mention of doing a structured 48-hour-auctions setup, like everyone nominates a max 1 guy per day or something.
-
We DO need to schedule some time to bid on Adam Lind.
-
I'm ok with that.
-
Do we need another full auction? The big names are off the board. I vote for just opening up free agency.

Should we just pick this back up next Thursday at 9 Eastern?
-
I don't see anyone in draft room
-
Sounds like a simple, clear rule. Thumbs up. FYI, I might be a minute or two late tonight (feel free to start without me), but I'll definitely be there.

Should clarify, it would only be players not currently on a roster, so only people drafted ridiculously early, not keepers. Pujols breaks a leg in spring training I'm SOL.
-
2.5 hours! Quick idea: to compensate for drafting so early, I could remove, penalty free, any players who during spring training are declared out for the season. Not just hurt, but like Wainwright last year or Zumaya this. Objections?
-
One week! (And for any east coasters unhappy with the starting time, I'm posting this from work)
-
Time's up! March 1st, 9-11pm Eastern Time.
-
In less than 21 hours I'm locking in Thursday, March 1st from 9-11 Eastern Time and only postponing if I'm faxed a death certificate. Last chance to register your complaints!
-
Wait-and-see. One of the reasons I suggested such an early date is so that we would have time to schedule a second session and/or do a ton of 48-hour auctions in an organized, spread-out fashion. Also, pre-ST will encourage focusing on known quantities.
-
How many sessions are we planning on? Or will it just be a wait-and-see approach? (Just curious. I'll be available whenever.)

Thursday, March 1st, 9pm to 11pm Eastern Time. You have until Sunday, February 12th at 11:59pm Eastern Time to register your displeasure. If it makes it through Sunday, that's the date for our first session.
-
I'm good from 9-11 most nights for the forseeable future save for 2/22. Would prefer to avoid Fridays, as well, if possible.
-
I'm a west coaster, too, but should be able to make most weekdays 5pm (8pm EST) work for the next couple of weeks, if we go that route. I've got some travel coming up, but hopefully can work around it for whatever is decided.
-
I often am working weekday evenings, but I can adjust my schedule if I have advance notice. (A week ahead of time should do.)

many of the players we are going to be bidding on first are known quantities, so I say we do this as soon as possible. I can do any time. I say do short 60/120 minute auctions starting soon on weekday nights.
-
Is there anyone who's not going to be able to make a weekday night from 9-10pm EST? We'd have to be very strict about starting on time too. Actually, does 9-11pm EST go too late for anyone?
-
I think the best plan is to try some short ones on weekday nights (plan B), followed by the auction concept if we're not done by a certain date.

Oh, I meant we should do one of these plans, not all. We'll of course finish up with 48-hour auctions however we proceed. But it sounds like you're voting for 1 or 2.
-
I'm good with the three plans. I think we absolutely need to get as much real auction in as possible, to avoid the 48 hour auctions. I'm very busy as well, but I can free up time whenever we need to do this - late/early/weekday/weekend/whatever.
-
Three plans: 1) Do an auction on a weekend in February, before Spring Training's even started. 2) Try and schedule some short (60 minutes?), weekday nights during March, if scheduling lets us. 3) Starting around March 8, nominate 1 player each per day.
