If we can't do live auctions and, instead, must do 48-hour auctions, then could we wait a week or two to begin them? (I vote for the first day of spring training: March 2.) I need some prep time.

Oh, I'm saying no weekdays because I know we have west coasters. I won't even be home from work til 9pm Eastern Time.
-
There are 5 weekends in March. The last one is after opening day. One owner can't do the first two, another can't do the next two. Should we just skip the auction and start 48-hour auctions now? We each could nominate one a day to limit the number active.
-
We have a no-go on March 11th. Stay tuned.

I'm sure you mean March 11. :)
-
Not many of you are getting back to me on the auction date, but based on those who have, I'm looking at Sunday, May 11. That gives us a couple weeks to finish our rosters up with 48-hour auctions (I have a plan to organize this). Any problems?

I appear to be in the minority regarding arbitration :P
-
Name changed. No reference to poetry, but I followed in the ominous tone of the blood-dimmed tide and went with a song title.
-
I thought the arb voting was cool, if only to see who other owners were hoping to see become FAs. It sucks to lose key guys like that, but I wouldn't do away with it.
-
Also, I like arbitration voting. It helps even the playing field but doesn't level it completely.

Wouldn't surprise me if this led to better deals for the original teams. $5 less than market value might well be less than average value. We'll see.
-
I liked the arbitration fine; it was a fun thing to look at and figure out in October. Also the fact that no one could agree on who my arbi guy should be, that was fun for me.
-
I do like the arbitration/salary adjustment aspect, but not the cutting. I'd like something along the lines of moving the price to the avg ottoneu price (for the 12 players voted), and the owner can cut if they don't wish to take on the extra salary.
-
I actually LOVE the arb voting. I agree with Pillar, I don't think the point is to take those guys off your team, just price them a little more fairly. After all, that's what actual arbitration does.
-
Let's see how many of the 12 cuts wind up back on their original team. That $5 discount is going to be significant for almost everyone. I still think it's insane to think of someone picking up Bautista in 2010 for $1 and having him in 2012 for $5.
-
Haha!! MY JUSTIN. I love it. Btw - I really really really dislike the arbitration voting. How about we all just abstain from voting next October?
-
Re: Arb players - If you go into the auction now and search for "Upton" you'll see my Justin, who you guys rudely voted off my team, is eligible to be nominated, and Carlos's B.J. isn't. So Arb players don't show up as FAs.
-
Love the name. But now I have the Iron Maiden song (same title as poem) in my head!
-
New name for Virgin Screwdrivers, to go with the poetry theme.

I'm going to let us chill for a couple days, let the pending trades go through, then we can talk about setting an auction date and time.
-
Do we know when the auction date is (or when it will be set)?

Wouldn't surprise me if Niv just went through and manually processed the arb players for each team. We're still at least a month from the draft so I'm not going to worry about it now.
-
Any idea what is going on with the players voted off our teams? They appear to be on everyone's roster.
-
I don't understand how that rule gets abused when (a) it's something you code into the system, and (b) this is the first Ottoneu off-season so it hasn't had a chance to be used yet. I'm sure Niv knows best.
-
Ok, got in one last cut then. I was going to wait and decide on which SP's to keep, but I'm glad we checked.
-
Who knew the most exciting time in fantasy baseball other than the auction could be January?
-
man, it feels GOOD to cut some of these guys.
-
I'm gonna.
-
Queen, why aren't you just dropping Braun and Josh Johnson now if you don't want to keep them?
-
Niv confirms there are NO extra cuts. He says the rule was abused and he took it out. Get your cuts in tonight.
-
Better cut now....
-
Bummer, I was counting on those for Braun and Josh Johnson...
-
With less than 4 hours to the deadline, I have no response from Niv on whether there are two additional free cuts after the deadline. I'll post if I hear otherwise, but until I do assume there are NO cuts.
-
Yeah, I remember that from the rules before too. And was anticipating that I can still use one of those drops after I see what the auction pool and everyone's budgets look like.
-
I swear that used to be in the rules but isn't. I'll ask Niv, but until I get a response otherwise we have to assume what the rules say is accurate.
-
I can't find it in the rules, but we are allowed 2 free drops between the keeper deadline and the draft, right?
-
Excellent. Thank you.

Pillar said it much more succinctly!
-
The final deal we came up with was: Bruce, Anderson, Perez for Pineda, Encarnation, Altuve, Rivera and $10 loan for the 2012 season. So, Pillar split it into two reasonable parts in order to honor the loan post auction (when its possible).
