The last proposal was from me to him – and yes, I knew Smith was injured, but the severity was not yet known.
Look, I may not have done extremely well for myself, I guess time will tell. I was unaware that I had so many people to please in the Ottoneu trade process. I mistakenly thought that all I needed was equal enough value for myself and have my immediate/future needs met, as well as my particular trade partner, but apparently not.

I know Bauer was a big ask, but I actually have a personal, self-imposed rule against rostering any Indians’ players (yes, it’s dumb and yes, Cody Allen, Brad Zimmer and Yandy Diaz are available cheap!). This is probably lost on everyone else, but is likely the root of the perceived valuation difference of Bauer. I, of course, did not set out to alienate myself so quickly and honestly feel okay about the trade.

Wow. First trade and already lynched by the mob. I’m not sure how much disclosure I need to/should provide, but … I placed my SS’s on the block a week ago. I got an almost immediate offer on Machado which I considered light. I expected more to quickly follow. They did not. Team Name initially inquired about Correa and I expressed interest in Honeywell, Sanchez (I’m a huge Rays fan), Rosario and Renfroe. Upon noticing he was looking for OF/MI, I dangled Ozuna and Kipnis.

My view - BTBL is much better off if the trade is vetoed. If he shops those players around independently, he will get much better offers (including, unsurprisingly, a couple from me). I don't mean to be rude about it at all, and I have made plenty of ill-advised trades myself. But in my view, this is just so lopsided that it is a legitimate use of veto.
-
Let's face it. Speaking from experience that was only 18 months ago, the new guy in a league almost always gets lopsided offers very early as people try to take advantage of the newbie. And, being new to Ottoneu and its unique valuations makes it even more difficult. The nice thing is that the dynasty aspect of the league and the allocation process allow for yearly corrections.
-
I hate to use veto, but I agree with Winnetka, Philly & Maui. There is so much excess value in Bauer/Ozuna/Correa. Bauer is a serious Cy Young contender at the same price ($4) as Honeywell. Even a straight Bauer for Honeywell trade would get some vetos. BTBL should take some time to entertain offers for those players, and at least give other teams a chance.
-
No, it is not obvious to me why that trade should be vetoed. I will only veto a trade if I have a reason to believe there is collusion or if it is not in the spirit of the game. I have no reason to suspect that is the case. While we may believe that a trade is lopsided, sometimes people just have different valuation methods. I have been on the short end of some suspected very lopsided trades that were heavily panned in the messages, but that I thought turned out just fine for me in the end.
-
I hit the veto button too. Deals like this one are bad for a league, but I also doubt enough others will veto to prevent it going through.
-
I did as well. Unfortunately, it's quite difficult to get enough people to vote against deals like this

For disclosure purposes, I'm voting "no" on the BTBL/Team Name trade. I won't go into why unless you all need me to. I think the reasons are obvious.

Tommy Pham, marked as starting today. Didn't play.

When I first checkeed this afternoon in a league where I own Schwarber, he was listed as not being in the lineup, but about 10 min later he was listed as playing. Happened with Kris Bryant too. I almost benched them both.
-
Did anyone set their lineups this afternoon (as opposed to this evening) ? A ton of my players were marked "not in lineup". I check the scores now and I find Schwarber and Votto are indeed starting.
-
Is anybody interested in pitching prospects Triston McKenzie or AJ Puk? I have too many minor leaguers, and can't field a real lineup every day. Looking to add at MI, 3B, C and OF.

They probably have a lot more money than I do :(
-
What about the owners who have 17 teams? What will they do?
-
I love the site so I hope it works out for them, but I wonder if a sudden doubling of the price will drive away more money than it will bring in. I'm probably going to downsize from 5 teams to just 2. I have to think at least some team owners will do the same, and others won't return. Who knows?
-
These fantasy sites are a bit more expensive to run than you may think. I for one, thought that this was extremely cheap given my experience. I'm a part owner of a fantasy football website that I know longer play in.
-
With the price doubling to $20 per team next year, I'm planning to keep 2 of my 5 teams. The rate of inflation over the past 12 months is substantially below 100%, and I'm not sure Fangraphs' costs to maintain the Ottoneu site doubled, so the 100% price increase seems a bit out of the blue. I already pay for a FG membership, seems a bit unfriendly for them to double the price suddenly.
-
I do agree. And never too busy to respond to you, Winnetka. Only I'll have to take your word on that fun of being successful part.
-
Welcome to the league! I'm in four leagues myself, this is my sixth year in Ottoneu. I find that this scoring system and being in a dynasty/keeper format really enhances my enjoyment of MLB. It encourages you to do your own scouting which makes it all the more rewarding when one is successful.
I'm sure Philly Phoo Fighters would agree, but he is probably too busy managing his 17 teams.

Welcome to the league. FWIW, I'm in 5 leagues and this is by far my favorite (even though my team is in sorry shape this year). Good, active owners.
-
Welcome to the league. I think you will enjoy Ottoneu and this league, as everyone has been very active this year.
-
Hi all! I've been stalking the Community pages for weeks trying to pick up a team and was fortunate enough to be active at the time "Blackie" was made available. I'm pretty new to Ottoneu, but have been a fantasy baseball player for a couple of decades now. Also spent quite a bit of time surfing the Community and learning of the many nuances this game offers. Just wanted to take time out to thank the you all for the opportunity!!

I was going to say that are eligible for the Nurse-Hat badge for having at least 5 guys on the 60-day DL, but it looks like you have already won that one in 2017.
-
16 is very likely the record. Seems a bit of a self-inflicted problem though - you could cut at least 10 of them without costing yourself any long-term production.
-
Is there a record for guys on the DL.... 16 seems a touch high

The Muddling Nimrods offense almost succeeded yesterday in having 12 positions players play and put up a negative total number. Alas, after about a month of working towards that goal with several days in single digits, they again fell short finishing with 0.40. Eduardo Escobar's 13.00 performance prevented reaching this historic milestone. Yoan Moncada with 6.2 was the only other player above 0.6. Both players will be severely reprimanded for not being team players.

Strasburg left early, fastball 3mph slower than usual.
-
Ohtani has a UCL "sprain". How often does that not result in TJ surgery? Pitcher injuries never stop. Any guesses who is next?
-
Crimson - I suspect you feel better about trading Alex Reyes now. I need to remind myself TINSTAAPP!!! He was just so impressive, I took a chance on his health. C'est la vie.

I've heard Bauer and analysts discuss the oils as well. But what is remarkable to me is the recovery of these older pitchers. Verlander and Morton are throwing very hard and are not missing starts, not losing velocity, breaking pitches just as sharp...etc. Verlander threw a ton of pitches and innings last year, with a short offseason, he is even better? Verlander was definitely dropping off in Detroit, the Tigers couldn't give Verlander away for free. They are paying $8 million a year still
-
Trevor Bauer thinks they are artifically boosting their spin rates with specially designed oils on ther fingers. Astros and Indians are the spin rate kings. Bauer is odd, but he isn't stupid. Could be a different type of cheating than PEDs.
-
I have to call out the Astros. G Cole hits 100mph in the 7th last night. J Verlander 35, was past his peak two years ago and now he is having a year Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson would be proud of. Charlie Morton resurrects his career at 33 and continues to improve dramatically at 34. I know a little bit about PEDs, I suspect the Astros are onto something.
-
In my defense... my job is so easy and boring that I consider myself a professional fantasy baseball GM. I sit at my desk all day playing Ottoneu, and they keep giving me a paycheck.

Spa, if you go more than 12 hours without making a trade offer to someone in the league we will immediately send medical assistance. ;)
-
I give my consent in advance... If I go a month without logging in, you are free to abandon my team without waiting to hear from me :)
-
Looks like the owner for Blackie has been inactive in all 3 of his leagues since May 1st. I sent him a note and will give him 1 week to respond.
