The baseball media is so spineless they can't even criticize John Heyman or Rosenthal who completely bungled the reporting of these last negotiations.
-
I completely agree with Spa City. The baseball media is always spinning the angle in favor of the players. I think that skews the minds of most fans. The media also completely misrepresents on how much the owners make. Almost all of them have no clue whatsoever on how to read financial statements. The only one that I can give credit when it comes to talking about all of this is Steve Phillips. Essentially the players want the fair share of the profits with zero risk.
-
No need for everybody to agree whom to blame. But I blame the MLBPA for this mess. MLBPA is a disaster - trying to represent a huge range of superstars with $100s of millions and recent immigrants with no $. MLBPA leadership is beholden to the mega stars, and is screwing the majority of its members. I believe Tony Clark and his crew looked so bad after the last CBA they are scared to make meaningful concessions. Even though the poorer members would be better off taking the Owners’ deal.
-
I for one will continue to love and watch baseball whenever it comes back, but the MLB will most likely lose a lot of fans and it is is 100% their fault. The way MLB and the Owners are handling this is nothing short of atrocious. As much as I want to watch baseball this season I will have no problem with the MLBPA if they choose to not play this year if nothing changes from the owners.
-
Ottoneu players are probably among the most loyal fans MLB has. I think most Ottoneu players have completely checked out. If MLB loses our attention and interest, they are going to lose a LOT of casual fans. I wonder how many fans won’t care anymore when MLB eventually plays ball.
-
If anybody is active and interested in trades, I want to take a page from Mighty Nimrods’ book and ask for offers. I will take the best offer I receive for Manny Machado, Paul Goldschmidt, and Aaron Nola as of midnight Saturday. Even if the offer is bad, I will take it. I need roster space and cape space for 2021, since I am treating 2020 as a lost season.
-
I would love to trade Goldschmidt, Nola and Machado - if nothing else to have something to do in ottoneu. I would include a loan to pay salaries. With no trades and no games, ottoneu is not much fun. Let’s shake it up.

Assuming (as I do) there is no vaccine for COVID19 by next Spring... Will fans be allowed back in crowded stadiums for opening day 2021? There has never been a vaccine for a Corona virus before. This is going to linger. If fans cannot be in ballparks (or even in a damn barber shop), why would that change by next year? They should just let people assume risks. If you are afraid of the virus, stay home. I’ll be at the ballpark.

survive. Many of these small business owners purchase season tickets.
The amount of money these baseball teams net is greatly exaggerated. I know, I deconstructed a dozen mlb financials from 2016-2018 from leaked data. Every one of these teams are going to lose a lot of money this year.
The players are generally well taken care of. They should share some of the burden.
-
This is where I got my 80,000, it might have been revised. But you were right on me being mistaken, I was referencing the 2017-2018 flu season.
Vegas I agree with your sentiments. You have every reason to be pissed.
I feel players are in the wrong here. The way the revenue is structured, they should share some of the loss here. Most players get paid millions to play a game we all love. Most small businesses across the country are suffering greatly and a fair number of them will not

Politics is why we have no fantasy baseball to play. If they wait for a cure or vaccine before they open back up, then everything will be closed forever. If there is no season because of a virus, I'll never watch another MLB game in my life. Play ball.
-
34k last year. I think you are citing 2 years ago, and that number was changed to 61k, per the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/past-seasons.html
-
We should keep politics out of fantasy baseball. My two cents.
-
Sorry for your loss Philly. I do agree with Spa that this has been a massive over reaction due to political reasons. To keep things in perspective, 80,000 died last year from the flu and their has been a lot of fraudulent reporting by hospitals this year in order to receive US govt aid.
-
We definitely don’t need to agree about the virus. I think the reaction has been absurd. I know there are people who think the reaction was not severe enough. But try to keep Americans locked in their homes, force filthy face masks on them, with their businesses shut down against their will much longer, and the virus will be the least of our concerns. I hope I am right, and a year from now we look back and feel embarrassed about cowering behind face masks.
-
Sorry for your loss Philly.
-
Hard to see how you can have an overreaction to 100,000 dead people in a couple of months . Especially if you work in an ER as my daughter does or have lost someone you care about to this virus as I have. A virus for which there is yet no cure or effective treatment. That is even passed on by asymptomatic carriers.
-
I’m not confident enough to wager more than a beer. I think the virus will go down in history as one of the most absurd over-reactions ever. But I think MLBPA and MLB will fail to get a deal done.
-
Anybody care to wager on it? I'll bet anyone here $100 we will get games this year.
-
I unfortunately also don't believe we will get baseball games this year. I just don't see a reasonable plan that the MLBPA will agree to.
-
Sean Doolittle for one shares your concern and lays things out well here https://twitter.com/whatwouldDOOdo/status/1259920490992410626
-
I am doubtful we will see MLB games this year.
-
Who shares my concern that MLB and MLBPA are not going to reach an agreement, and the 2020 season will be called off? Every week that goes by, I think they get farther apart.
-
Sorry folks, quarantine brain...

Slobberpuss - we had our auction back on Feb. 23rd. It has been so long that you forgot to participated. ;) We are currently just waiting for the season to start.
-
I think we are ready for the season to start - just waiting on an announcement about MLB’s plans for 2020.
-
So, did we have an auction already? Where does everything stand?

I sent some offers for Buehler, Dahl and others on my trade block. If you are interested please send an offer before too long. I am so bored due to not being at work and having no sports (nor much else to do).
-
I could have it backward. Maybe the vetoes were because Patino is so good he is worth far more than Yates, Hand, and Carrasco. That would explain why nobody wanted those guys.
-
I am curious as well.
-
I know everybody has a right to veto trades, but can anybody help me understand the 2 vetoes of the recent trade? I shopped those players for weeks, and had 7 trade offers out there. Nobody else even bothered to counter. I assumed there was zero interest in Yates, Hand or Carrasco. If they had no value, why veto?
-
So boring lately. Is anybody interested in trading for top tier RP - Hand and Yates are both available (plus loans). Looking for 2021-22 value.
-
Crap, I thought I'd get good deals on those guys.
-
3. If they start playing in isolation, and somebody (player, trainer, bus driver...) gets a severe case of Wuhan Virus, does MLB face liability (do they have a duty of care if they are the entity setting up the isolation)?
-
My legal question for any fellow lawyers or business experts out there:
1. If MLB starts a season in AZ, does section 11 of the UPC still let MLB withhold salaries from players if the players do not agree to be isolated? Isolation is not a condition of employment for players.
2. If sponsors (naming rights holders, advertisers, local TV) invoke force majeur to stop paying teams, who suffers the lost revenue?
-
Interesting idea. I am thinking about it. Maybe.
-
Why not just cut the players you have in mind and see if a chain reaction starts?

I’m not confident we will get a 2020 season at all. I know Winnetka believes we will have a 2020 season. I hope he is right. I tend to assume the worst, but I would love to be wrong.
-
Spa, I like the idea of a round of penalty free cuts. But let's wait until we know if/when we will be having a season as it will make more sense when we have some clarity. Then we can put the idea to a league vote.
-
To make things more interesting and active... What about giving everybody one round of penalty-free cuts? It is less severe than a re-draft, but it would let people freshen up their teams and use the free agent pool as a sort of supplemental draft.
-
My life hasn't changed much. I'm one of the few that is allowed to drive into my office in Chicago. It is actually kind of nice, no traffic, less than 25 minute commute times.
-
I have a two year old, two border collies, and both my wife and I are trying to work from home... so I actually somehow have less free time than I did before the outbreak. However, with no baseball, I am getting into OOTP for the first time, especially the Perfect Team mode.

I ordered 3 tons of fieldstone, and I’m building a retaining wall, natural stone staircase, and raised garden beds for shrubs. I planned to do this for years but never had time. Lots of Tylenol and whiskey helps. I wish my wife would let us get a dog, but that’s unlikely.
-
@Spa - to keep occupied, we bought a 3000 piece puzzle (frustrating at times) and started fostering a dog last week.
-
I am running out of things to do while everything is shut down. What is everybody up to?
-
I learned at a young age not to test the limits of Nimrods power. Also if you all twist my arm, I may be talked into doing another league.
-
Winnekta - I have the power to do ALL things! Bwahaahaa!
-
Spa I'm in, but only if there are 8 or more teams. As many as possible so the difficulty rises, I don't like small leagues.
-
If there are enough people interested, I can create another league. I already have 4 teams, why not 5? I have never been in a draft for a new league - only ever joined existing leagues. It could be fun going through a draft with every player on the market.
