Analysis: Carpenter was scratched from the lineup Wednesday with a right hamstring issue that had been bothering him for a few days. He appeared in the Tigers' 5-4 win as a pinch hitter, however, and the Tigers feel comfortable enough with his health to have him handle a non-defensive role in Thursday's series finale.
