to those who may be curious, the pending trade was cancelled because it was offered by accident. the owner meant to offer J.D. Martinez and not George Springer. This mistake was regrettable and obviously super dumb. The two owners at back at the negotiating table though trying to make amends and another deal.

yeah, they will be available as FA's in the draft. great question
-
Commish...I've never done vote-off arb. before. Do the vote-off players just become FA's?
-
yeah, we'll play those by ear
-
We usually take 2 breaks during the draft. John pauses the draft so everyone can do their business.
-
So excited.
-
We going to have scheduled breaks or play it by ear?
-
ok. if anything is still unclear, ask your questions now. not at 5:30.
-
i'd also recommend everyone clicking on the 'auction draft' tab sometime this afternoon to familiarize yourself or re-familiarize yourself with how it all works. Mostly, have a list of 30 people you want to nominate ready for the draft in order to move things along.
-
great. glad to have you. let me know if you have any questions.
-
fyi commish...I'm Jeff and will proxy for Distressed Assets today. I have access to draft room.

I, for one, am looking forward to my first live auction. I'm sure I will make a steaming pile of it.

It's almost Christmas!!

the buy-in proposal is shelved until after the draft. If there is sufficient interest we'll do that. If not, we won't. see y'all on saturday. 5:30 EST.
-
ok. i know somebody is not gonna show up to the draft. I just can't figure out who it's gonna be. here's hoping this is the first year that we have 12 teams bidding.
-
I support the proposal to have a $25 buy-in for interested owners. If you don't want to do that then that's fine, but you also can't win anything. So the owner who bought in and ends up highest in the standings would get the pot.

-
Nice I'm good too! Should we figure out who is buying in before the draft starts? Was it $25 - and can some owners choose to participate in the buy and others (like Mr. Baseball) opt out?
-
Thanks John!! I will be there for the draft as well. Looking forward to it.
-
Youkai! Will be available and ready for the draft.

the goal of this league is to be the most competitive one in the ottoneu universe. having a team miss the draft makes it almost impossible for them to compete. And I don't want to wait until a month or two to get a new owner to manage it.
-
also, we're drafting next weekend!! This all seems to have gone too smoothly thus far. I assume something is going to gum up the works. To avoid that I need to hear in the affirmative from everyone individually that they are free during the proposed draft time. If I don't hear from you by wednesday I'll email you. If i don't hear from you by draft day and you don't show up I'm going to be sad and also transfer your team to someone else right away.
-
we got a new manager between in the last few days. so i made some changes to his roster that he wanted and would have made himself if he'd had it at the keeper deadline.
-
In favor of the rule as stated.

that if a player undergoes season-ending surgery or dies before the draft that they are able to be cut without cap penalties. I understand the rules. i like the rules. but sometimes i think they can be improved upon. And its true that I am probably doing this now because I have had people go down with TJ's every year. Hopefully I don't have the reputation for playing things fast and loose as commissioner. I just want this to be fun for everyone. Them's my thoughts about it.
-
i hear you about the cuts. and i'm willing to reconsider. but one reason i like this league is that it gives flexibility and lots of autonomy to the participants to make it make sense. to me the more money that is free to make each team better makes it more competitive which makes it more fun. And yeah, I didn't feel like having that $5 count against me all year. And if a player dies then I don't think it makes sense have that salary count against a manager either. So I would like to propose:
-
With regards to cuts and penalties, I commented earlier that I do feel that the penalties serve a purpose. However, if the rule is limited to pitchers that actually undergo Tommy John before the draft, I can live with a penalty-free cut.

Chaps, if there is an additional fee of US$25, I unfortunately have to bail. so please let me know if that idea goes ahead, in order to find another owner before the draft.

Had to extend it already and the whole reason not to push it past a deadline was "in case someone gets injured in the spring". Reyes got injured in an off season workout. So, it is exactly the reason you shouldn't drop him. I am for fairness 😄. So really if no one else cares I get it.
-
$25 sounds good to me. Can we have a more clear policy on cuts? Not that I blame you for cutting Reyes, but at some pt the point is you would get with a cap hit for injured players. No one is likely to pick up Reyes all year. So you won't have the 1/2 salary penalty. If he had gotten injured 20 days later you would have dropped him per usual. I had a player die. I would understand having to live with the Salary for all year. Like Jose Fernandez. Just think you shouldn't drop someone after we
-
Cool can't wait for the draft. That sounds fair about the Tommy John rule... sorry about Reyes that really sucks. But yeah, I know I'm one of the new managers so I have less of a voice, but I'd definitely vote for a $20-30 buy in. This league looks like it will be real fun (but also a big time investment :)), might make it more fun having the steaks a little higher for everyone.
-
I am also instituting an 'if you're pitcher undergoes tommy john surgery between now and the draft you can ask the commissioner to cut him from your team with no cap penalties'.
-
we should decide on whether we want to do a buy in for the league at some point soon.
