Of course, we won't automatically gain more parity unless teams in the middle or at the bottom are more actively trying to compete. Can we enforce a games/innings minimum? If there were a penalty of losing low priced players, i.e. prospects, prior to arbitration if they don't meet a minimum, then that could be highly motivating for them to meet the IP/G's floor.
-
The only teams that used the add & immediate cut of players to gain salary space this year are: P&E (1st), Dichro (2nd), Panik (3rd), and Sugar (8th, although he was 5th for much of the season). So eliminating or modifying this feature will automatically increase parity. The top teams will have to scramble and use other methods to gain salary space and stay in the player acquisition game.
-
As you might infer, I do not believe this is a really big issue and probably not very relevant in terms of distortion of the results. I think the most important item to vote on is a loan tax, which would mirror in any case the luxury tax that exists in real life to avoid teams just spending unlimited amounts of money to gain competitive advantage.
-
So then it doesn't make sense to enforce that rule either. Meaning that we need a way to override the minimum salary requirements that Ottoneu automatically assigns.
-
On the other hand, I am not clear how one can monitor the rule about re-auctioning cut players. So for example, if I genuinely want to re-add a player that I cut after 30 days waiting. Am I allowed or not? And then if he gets injured a week later, can I cut him or not? I heard the argument is that the rule as-is in Ottoneu does not mirror real life, therefore we should enforce it differently. But in real life that is also no rule that a cut free agent will cost at least half his previous salary.
-
I like the arb coupon and loan tax system that Danger : Wildman shared with us. Not entirely clear on the inner workings, but I guess it sort of creates the right incentives. I am on board with the no commissioner veto rule. Given what happened, I guess it makes sense. Not sure, if that also means that collective action on the part of other owners that results in a veto will also be overruled automatically in the future...

Mount Rose Muskies's trade block has been updated!
-
Sounds like contending team problems. Not experiencing any of that down here in the mid-table.
-
It's not easy playing the maximum games across all positions. Go on a trip during a 3 day weekend and you return to find your roster plans in shambles. Late afternoon meetings at work can also screw you. And then there's shitty weather causing postponements.

150 innings is the new 200 innings

Welp, that's quite a line from Chris Archer: 2 batters faced, 2 hone runs, left with an injury. -29

Glad to hear this league is coming back next year! I've had a blast. I like the no veto trade item. Only thing I'd definitely want to stop is re-auctioning guys you've cut. As for Royce Lewis, I still have him 3 years out and that seems like a long time to hold a guy. But he's going to be a good one. Otherwise, here's hoping the Twinkies keep their improbable post season chase going. Only one game behind those damn Yankees!
-
If we want to limit salary dumps, I recommend we do it on a per-deal level.
-
Sounds good. Glad you're remaining in the league, P&E. I think a couple of the proposals are good as they address competitive balance. Looking fwd to going thru arbitration for a first time.
-
In another Otto league, we use this arb coupon and loan tax system. We've had good luck with it, even though it's not perfect. Feel free to give it a look: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1la-vq_bawyYhgeu92L8zOWOIovvPzzyb2wD1hzZq0dU/edit?usp=

we can vote on these and any other proposals people have after we make it through arbitration and replace any non-participating owners. doing your arb allocations is a mandatory requirement to stay in the league.

one of the proposed rule changes could be a cap on trade loans--either aggregate or in a single deal. i've heard of other leagues doing that. another is prohibiting re-auctioning players you previously cut and then re-cutting to minimize the cap hit. i know some ppl don't like that. finally, we could consider arbitration coupons for the teams who finish 2nd and 3rd, to add some additional incentives and excitement to the season.

so--i'm despite the trout fiasco, i'm planning to return next season. this is a great league with active owners. BUT--we should consider some rule changes in the offseason. also, in no uncertain terms, from now on, this is a no-veto league. every trade goes through. period. anyone who doesn't like that is free to go elsewhere. trade shaming is fine, but as commissioner, i'm not blocking any trades in this league.

Booo. Ottoneu's clock is a minute fast. I couldn't slot Brach in at 7:04.
-
The last Royce that I remember is Clayton, a light hitting middle infielder. Maybe the name scared Harmon off.
-
really surprised that harmon's would let one of his beloved twins slip through his grasp.

and yet those pitchers sit on the wire...why give away all your reconnaissance?
-
deep dive scouting trip to the carolina mudcats last night. corey ray struck out twice but looked smooth in the field. lucas ecreg annihilated a HR for the only scoring. both pitchers looked like future big leaguers in some capacity--jordan yamamoto and duane dunning both sitting in the mid-90s with decent secondaries. best of all--tickets right next to the dugout for $7 . . .

Me forgetting to set my lineup and losing two 50-point starts helps. But you've actually been pulling away

Welcome back Starlin Castro! Still can't believe I'm holding off Panik for 2nd place with his roster but I'm breathing a little easier with the return of Strasburg and Castro.

Anyone on my team can be available for trade. I still have a $5 Jay Bruce slugging away. Come at me with any offers involving prospect types.

The Price is Wright's trade block has been updated!

How do the end of the season auctions work? If I bid over my budget, without a player to cut, then the penalty of not being able to adjust my lineup is not a very big deterrent since the season is over.
-
Auctions are available through the end of the regular season.

I see that the trade deadline is Aug 31st. Do player auctions continue through the end of the season? Beyond the end of the season?

Yup, I agree. I like Harper and the Nationals and hope he can be back at 100% for the playoffs to give the Dodgers a run for their money.

No one is safe this year. That one sucks in particular because it seems like it was avoidable.
-
Damn! That sucks.

Again, doubly impressive since most of the teams on that list have major loans coming in

Out of 1,596 total Ottoneu Fangraphs Pts teams, P&E ranked 7th at the end of July.

Anyone selling RP? Want to pick up a midgrade-closer-tier guy, say someone who gets 7-7.5 points/IP
-
I've accumulated more SPs than intended, I would move Porcello for a reasonable offer or Vargas/Fiers for any decent asset
-
Jay Bruce is still mashing and he's still on the block for a $5 price tag. Some contender has to want that sort of production in their lineup. Come at me with any prospect offers. Anyone on my team can be discussed.
