This isn't exactly midseason. It's the 2nd day. No trades resulting in loans have been incurred yet.
-
Why didn't you raise this during the vote?
-
I don't believe in changing rules midseason.
-
I beg to differ. I think we really should consider tweaking the #'s in the table right now at the beginning of the season so that this new rule has the intended effect.
-
Here's a repeat posting of the Coupon rules: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1la-vq_bawyYhgeu92L8zOWOIovvPzzyb2wD1hzZq0dU/edit?usp=
-
Well, we can't change the rules midseason, but we can explore ways to tweak it next offseason. We've had a problem with teams tanking at the bottom and teams at the top taking out huge loans. This system addresses both issues.
-
For example, I believe my incoming loans were less than $50 last yr which means I would have, as a 2nd place team, had $23 of coupons to lower Bryce Harper's salary. In fact, I see this as a way to keep a top player like Harper, forever. The inflationary aspect of Arbitration is a key competitive element of Ottoneu and I can see this coupon system reversing that, thereby rewarding teams that are at the top, year after year.
-
Since the chatter on this board is in a lull, I want to bring up that I'm having some buyer's remorse about the Arbitration Coupon system we brought in this year. In theory, I don't think it's a bad system to put a penalty on excessive loans accumulated through trades. However, in practice, I think the coupon values are so high that it actually swings the other way - rewarding the top teams at the end of the season.
-
Good luck everyone!
Just a friendly reminder that even teams in rebuild mode should attempt to field a full lineup most days and make some reasonable attempt at hitting the IP and game limits. And the new arbitration coupon system penalizes teams that just full on tank the season.

I'm still really flush at 2B if anyone needs a starter/backup
-
No Yankee fans? Haha. Great bio's. Now let's have some great competition for the next 180 days.
-
32, in DC, originally from CT, second full season in this league. Sox diehard, Bruins, Pats (though trying to quit football). I was going to give an MLB player born the same day and year as me, but it turns out there has never been one. I somehow doubt there ever will be now.
I work with P&E, used to work with Nancy's Harbor, and went to college with Shaw from Shinola.
-
Thought for sure Trust the Process was another Philadelphian. 35, lawyer, live in Philadelphia now but raised in Rhode Island. Sox, Pats, Bruins, Celtics. First year in the league (brought in by Mount Rose Muskies) and I'm still working on a new team name. Also just learned that I wasn't getting email notifications when messages were posted, so apologies to anyone I didn't respond to before. Looking forward to playing in the new format.

I'am 68 retired IC Manager for Office Depot been playing Rotisserie Baseball against Thor's Warriors in his NL League for over 25 years big time LAD fan live in Torrance Ca.

I'm 56 living in the Twin Cities and sell large commercial fans (not really, Tiger fans, just can't resist -- I'm an account manager for a print company). This is my second year in this league. It goes without saying the best players play for the Twins. Oh, did I mention that I'm a little bit of homer? So whomever has that Sano guy, send him over! Otherwise, I'm just a solo dad raising two kidlits and when time allows, play some golf. My other geeky pastime is playing war games.
-
I'm 20 year old student, and this is my second year in the league. I live on Cape Cod and am a Red Sox fan as well as a diehard Patriots and Celtics fan. In my free time, I enjoy to run and play basketball.
-
57, project manager who lives in Santa Fe, NM. Old enough to have watched Clemente play on tv and grew fond of the Pirates. Second year playing in this league, and am on the 18th year playing in an AL only roto league. In free time I tried ultimate frisbee last summer and I consistently ride a motorcycle to work, at least when it isn't snowing.
-
Age 54 season. Freelance writer/editor, Minnesotan. Twins fan who watches with hands covering my eyes whenever Buxton gets within 5 feet of the warning track. Digging the Ottoneu format in my first experience with it.
-
I'm 34, just outside of Boston, second season in the league. I work as an Electrical Engineer doing university research. Red Sox fan, though I don't watch as much baseball as I used to. I have a one-year-old, so if I don't answer messages or respond to offers, I blame her.
-
35, this is my 10th year in NYC, originally from Texas, so I'm a longtime Texas Rangers fan. You all know me as the guy who hoards up on prospects and then trades them away just before they blow up and then spends the next season regretting it. I'm a Talent Manager for a Digital Advertising in Manhattan and am probably too stoked to be traveling to New Orleans in a week for Wrestlemania.
-
55 year old Red Sox diehard (was at game 4 in 2004) living in the desert of Tucson Az. Commissioner of a NL RotIsserie League that we started in 1985 when I published stats by hand and mailed them to owners. Tucson Roadrunner and UofArizona season ticketholder. Enjoy playing poker and Hearthstone. Original member of the league.
-
Nice! Glad to have a fellow Tigers fan on board. I've really enjoyed my visits to the Twin Cities, but somehow still haven't made it to a ballgame there.
-
Fellow Tigers fan! Yay! I live in the Twin Cities (MN) region where I teach Social Studies and coach high school baseball. 24 y/o and I think I joined before the second year. When the Tigers are done playing, I'll flip on the Dodgers, my second love.

Let's do some preseason intros, for those who're interested. I'm in my mid-40s, live in Takoma Park, MD (DC metro area), and am originally from Michigan. I've been in this league since it began back in 2012. Favorite baseball team is the Detroit Tigers, though it's looking like a tough year. In my free time, I enjoy riding my bike, homebrewing, and disc golf.
-
yeah, tough break. it's a long season, though.

The Shark, Murphy and probably Salazar all to the DL. I don't think I'll get off to that quick start like last yr.

Whirling Darvish's trade block has been updated!
-
also, you don't have to move guys to the DL--ottoneu will do it automatically.
-
There's no benefit to cutting a 60 day DL player on a $1 salary unless you think someone will pick him up.
-
Harmon, moving Cotton to the 60 day DL only frees up a roster spot, allowing you to have 41 players on your roster. His salary still counts against your $400 cap.
-
Rule clarification please: Once Cotton goes on the 60 Day DL and I move him there, does his salary still count against my cap? Or am I basically stuck with that fricking dollar I wasted on him and might as well cut him?
-
Yeah, I agree with that--collision itself isn't allowed. Announcing it beforehand doesn't make it ok.
-
This is starting to sound like a gun control argument.
-
I'm saying: There's no point in having a rule that collusion must be announced. No one that is willing to collude is going to follow it.
-
i think salary dump trades are fine--even when they're just for cap space. that's not collusion. but when one team agrees to pick up another guy's cut in return for another team doing the same, that's collusion. i'd say that any time a previously cut player is picked up and then cut in a relatively short period of time, we might have some questions about it.
-
By the way, having a hidden side deal within a negotiation seems to me to be the very definition of collusion.
-
Also, if it isn't announced, and one team picks up another team's dropped player soon after a trade, that action is going to look sketchy. In other words, best to announce it.
-
The reason I posted the link was to make everyone aware of it. Collusion can happen if 2 teams believe their action isn't collusion when, in fact, it really is. Requiring an announcement of such an agreement on the board opens the action to sunlight. If the 2 teams choose to keep it hidden the league can't do anything about it but at least they will know that they are colluding, a tough thing to swallow in a free, no payout fantasy league.
-
That is: no point in announcing it, because there is no way to show that it was done if you don't announce it.
-
I would say that negotiating another team's pickup of your dropped player is no better than you picking it up yourself. However, there's no way to enforce it, so no sense in worrying about it?
-
With the new rule eliminating the re-bid/re-release of previously cut players, *new* techniques for freeing up cap space will surely be exploited. The linked piece below suggests eliminating another team's cap penalty on a cut player by making it part of a trade negotiation. Thoughts? As for mine:
1) These type of agreements should be announced here.
2) Such agreements done behind the scenes are collusion.

Impressive tear down! And your team looks incredible--you've got to be one of the favorites going into the season.
-
I’m here if you want to make it a clean 40/40.
-
i just realized i've flipped 39/40 roster spots since i inherited this team. arenado's the last player
-
though i'm going to savor those standings over the next few days.
-
haha, but that's ancient history now.
-
Oh noes, the Commish is down to five active hitters who scored at least 900 points last year.
-
yeah, small non-displaced is about as good as wrist fractures go, i suppose. the extra roster spot only kicks in for 60-day DL though, and i'm not sure turner will end up there.
