Yeah, as a Twins fan I'm chagrined to admit that in March I had zero interest in Escobar for fantasy purposes. After watching him for six seasons, I just chalked up his '17 surge to the springy ball. At least I added him in my other league (for $1, of course). Given the emphasis on MI in this format, Escobar is an astonishing value.
-
No love for the $1 Eduardo Escobar auction before the season, aka Mr. Top 30 Hitter? Anyways, make me offers for my non-Bellinger, non-Tatis guys. Looking to get younger cost-effective players in return. Quality over quantity.

Chuck's team is a cinderella rebuild in 3rd place that looks like a world beater in two years. Gonna have some holes to fill but that core will be great
-
Corbin is great, I have him in my other league. There's some chatter about a velocity drop but I'm hoping it's just fatigue (and he gets a 10 day DL vacation that fixes everything).
-
Don't even talk to me unless you've traded Ozzie Albies for Pablo Sandoval.
-
a $1 ace is tough to beat. for dumbest move of the year, i'll nominate both my cutting juan soto as well as my trading travis shaw for literally nothing (a cut evan gattis).
-
Early candidate for bargain of the year: Wildman's Patrick Corbin. 10th most points among SP, ahead of Snell and Paxson, among many others. All for $1.
-
love the activity! we've always had a solid core of good owners, but it now feels like the entire league is engaged.
-
Ya you gotta make the roster your own. No point blaming anyone else for your shite.
-
Darvish: 37/40 was my turnover in the first year. Just Kluber and Arenado left. Burn it all down, it's more fun that way
-
If you're counting the opportunity cost and the missed production, you're double counting. And 450 still puts them at ~4 points better than replacement. But I'm not denying your central point--you've had bad breaks.
-
For the record only three players remain (Donaldson, Chapman and Bour) from the roster I started with in January.
-
All the players belong to Whirling Darvish.
-
I computed what their projections were pre-season and subtracted actuals from the black hole that have been my SS & 2B production for 65 games apiece (450). Then there's the opportunity cost (100) associated with pursuing replacement black holes at SS & 2B instead of other pieces which would better improve my team. Finally there's the post-injury period where their production isn't even close to their projections - Murph's avg is 1 pt/gm, Andrus 0.5/gm.
-
For them to cost you 600 points in 60 missed games they would both have to be 5 points a game better than replacement. But I do agree you've had some terrible luck.

After today's performance, perhaps I should just give P&E the FG touted Domingo German. Man this season has sucked for my team. Predictably Andrus and Murphy have come back to their lineups in super slo mo. I think their injuries have cost me around 600 points altogether in the standings, or maybe more.

H2H points might be kind of fun, though I think it would be even better if each day was "a game." Obviously, based mostly on SP, you'll win some days and be doomed in others, but the best rosters should still win out.
-
I once finished first overall in Ottoneu 5x5, but then quit that league to focus on this one. I enjoy points leagues a lot more.
-
150 points leagues, that is
-
Without carefully counting, 150? https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/browseleagues
-
FWIW, my trading philosophy is to always look for deals that make both sides better. You stack up enough of those, and you can end up with a decent team.
-
Dichromatic Ayes's trade block has been updated!

Be interesting to know how many leagues are out there. Obviously points is only one of the Ottoneu formats, but even if there are only 100 points leagues, that's 1,200 rosters. So quite the deal to be at or near the top.
-
To be clear, P&E is a few points out of first globally. "TBD", the #1 team, is not a real team.
-
It’s a loooong season and even gaining 2,000 or more points isn’t out of the question.
-
Oh, and Shaw is still 22nd in the global standings. So yeah, these are two extraordinary rosters for the rest of us to deal with.
-
Anyway, ebbs and flows of a season. But as of this moment, Shrimpf is THIRD on the global leaderboard, and only a few points out of second. Even with his pitching innings surplus, he'll be very tough to catch this year, not to mention a clear favorite for next year.
-
As for Choo, holy shite. One of the first things I managed to comprehend about Ottoneu is that this format loves a player like Choo. But then with me not contending and him about to turn 36, I thought he's a totally logical guy to move. So now he's dialed it back to his final season with the Reds, when he produced 1,000-plus points. He's been that good. Did get Aaron Hicks and Domingo Santana (fingers crossed for '19) in that deal.
-
Since then, Schrimpf has gone from having, realistically, the two top hitters in Ottoneu in Trout and Betts to having five hitters in the top 16. Unfortunately, he got two of those guys from me, Story (at 15) and Choo (at 14). Di-Ayes criticized me for trading Story at the time, and while Bregman, who I received, has also taken off (up to 19), I should have valued Story more than I did. At least I also stuck Schrimpf with Cano before his suspension.

Wasn't any sort of prediction there, Shaw. At the time I said that, you had seven hitters in the top 30. Now you have five. So yeah, you've fallen back, especially when compared to Shrimpf.
-
Most teams are forced to start 4 or 5 players at decalso's talent level. Never bought p&e's pessimism. I said it last yr but all of us have to drive tough deals with him in order to see a different champion. To be honest, I think we are collectively doing tougher deals with him and we're also competing hard with him in the auctions too. If we can re-calibrate or cancel last season's rule change, we might be looking at a new champ in 2019 or 2020.
-
starting daniel descalso on consecutive days is an act of quiet desperation.
-
while this run of luck has been fun, it's also totally unsustainable.
-
in your defense my team has been as bad as yours has been good
-
i think i speak for the rest of the league when i say, "keep your predictions to yourself".
-
welp, since your "Shaw has an all-star team, I won't be able to keep up" prediction, you've moved from 9th overall in ottoneu to 2nd by 27 points. and you've outscored me by 40 points a day for two weeks.
-
man, jordan hicks can bring it.
-
Wait a minute, WD cut Strickland 6 days before he punched a door with his pitching hand thereby losing his closer role? That's some way out there prognostication powers.
-
I could give a tutorial on how to minimize your FG pts on doubleheader days by selecting the wrong players to sit and play, each and every time. I'm an expert.
