Commish please reset Alfaro's salary to $4. That's what I got him for in the auction.
-
I traded or cut 37 out of 40 players in the first year and a half... Never too soon to burn it all down
-
I went back and checked the league history. In my franchise's 6 prior years it has never finished above 9th. Makes me feel a little better about the failings of my first year in charge.
-
Into the home stretch and Astudillo has a comfortable lead. It’s been a fun season—good luck to everyone the rest of the way!

Kimbrel's fb lost 1 mph last year and then another 1 mph this year. He can still be effective at 95+ but I am really suspect about his off season conditioning. Everyone said it would take Keuchel longer to be ready to pitch due to the longer outings, after their mid season signings. As it turned out Keuch started for the Braves on 6/21, and Kimbrel wasn't ready until 6/27. Keuch 0 times to the IL, Kimbrel now 2. Until he explains otherwise, the conditioning is on Kimbrel. Hard pass for 2020.
-
I really believe the game has reached a tipping point, at least with relievers. Guys shouldn't be throwing max effort every pitch, even if it's only for 75 innings a year. Look at Addison Reed and Cody Allen: both washed at age 30. I see them as the canaries in that coal mine.
-
Pitchers lose it, man, and it often ain't pretty. The warning signs were there for Kimbrel in 2018. Of course over the past two seasons we've seen the pitchers who sign during the season struggle. This year, Lance Lynn at least has bounced back nicely. So maybe Kimbrel is fine for 2020. It's pitching. Who the hell knows?
-
Well for a guy who has been arguably a top-5 reliever all time, those preconceived notions are pretty well founded
-
End of last year, with no fantasy interest whatsoever, I was watching Kimbrel's soaring BB rate and declining K rate and thinking, "no way he'll be on my team in 2019." Then the instant he gets dropped in June, before he signed with the Cubs, I add him (on waivers no less). Funny when push comes to shove how easy it is to revert to standard perceptions of name players despite all evidence to the contrary.
-
I saw this message and checked my other league. I'm not proud of the fact that I thought "oh phew, he's just out for the year"
-
Oh for fuck's sake, Kimbrel. You suck.
-
Things were almost getting interesting for a minute, then Astudillo has a 300 point day.
-
Shows what I know.... I thought that was a foul ball at first!
-
I know "Paul DeJong infield single" is not a phrase that conjures a lot of excitement, but check this out: https://tinyurl.com/y6slujtx
-
I dropped Giolito end of April. Also, it would have been pretty easy to pry Pete Alonso from me last offseason.
-
guys i should not have cut: 1) juan soto; 2) gavin lux; 3) cody bellinger.

Poking around at game scores, Scherzer had a 97 no-hitter and a 100 one-hitter back to back in 2015. That's...dumb. It's dumb that that happened. It's bad writing.
-
Right. Sporer is not an Ottoneu player. You have to go to Brad Johnson for that. JV plays slightly better in 5x5 because he plays for Houston and he goes a little deeper in games on avg.
-
I was trying to figure it out according to Ottoneu points scoring, which is what I assumed others were doing.
-
I’d take those Sporer rankings with a pinch of salt—he’s assuming 5x5 roto.

Wiki: The highest game score for a nine-inning game in the history of baseball is Kerry Wood's one-hit, no walk, 20-strikeout shutout performance for the Chicago Cubs against the Houston Astros on May 6, 1998. His game score was 105 (50 + 27 + 10 + 20 – 2)

I get 101 for Kerry Wood. He allowed a single and a HBP. Randy Johnson's perfect game was 92.6. That happened on my 40th birthday, so I like to take partial credit for his accomplishment.
-
105 for Wood.
-
What was Wood's? 108? Pretty sure that was the highest ever
-
game score of 100, which is more rare than a no hitter

The roto guy over on Fangraphs ranked Verlander ahead of Scherzer going into 2020 which caused me to scratch my head but maybe he's onto something.
-
Good gawd, Verlander today. I know he walked a guy, but aesthetically, nine innings/one baserunner/14K is a perfect game. Total dominance. And back in June/July when he had that stretch where he gave up like 10 homers in five starts, dumb ol' me was wondering if JV was on the decline.
-
Could use an outfielder.
-
Someone has to make a trade today.
-
Damn, I've got a quarter of my team on the IL -- never been hit that hard before in any league.

Love that metaphor... splashing the pot.
-
First place, planning for next year and splashing the pot in every prospect. Brutal.
-
Entertaining offers for Scherzer (just off the IL), Pressly (back on it), Merrifield and Baez. Seeking OF and 2B eligibles for 2020. Will be out of pocket much of next week so get at me sooner than later.
-
Thanks for the input on the AL only league. I have another question: do any of you have any experience with or know someone who has played Ottoneau as head to head? If so, how was it? The league Yu Neverauskas, Astudillo and I play in is running it's course after about 30 years and we're looking to freshen it up without the 3 of us doing side jobs to make it work. It's an odd league with odd rules but it's clear it isn't going to last much longer in its current state.
-
I felt fortunate to grab Jhoan Duran!
-
Make that three, as of a couple of weeks ago. So something tells me the bargains will be even harder to find.
-
You have two Minnesotans in this league, so yeah, you're gonna have to move early on any Twins prospect. I'm so lame I've convinced myself that Arraez looks like a young Tony Gwynn, and yet Harm is a way bigger homer than me.
-
both kinda love and am annoyed by how impossible it is to land any decent twins prospect in this league. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-twins-latest-hitting-machine/

I wouldn't even bother with the restricted list. Teams could self-manage the rule and you could see in the production tab if any ineligible players had been used.
-
If I had a little more time available, i’d be very interested in that format.

As far as I know, that’s the only way to do it.

You could set up an AL-only league by having the commissioner place all of the NL players on the league’s restricted list. I don’t think it would be all that hard—might take a half hour.

4 games w/o a HR counting today. On the other hand, he has 5 BB's in last 10 games and I thought that wasn't part of Aquino's game.
-
Also, someday I will learn that Wednesdays have day games, but apparently not today.
-
If 3 is too many games to hold Aquino without a home run, I'll take a flyer on him
-
With France, Cron and Aquino on my team I believe I have now cornered the market on AAA HR's in 2019. You guys are playing Ottoneu while I'm playing some stupid imaginary game in my head.
-
I don't believe Ottoneu formats allow for customization, but you could try the Community link up above.

Question for the Ottoneau veterans: Is there any way to configure a new league using AL only players?
