Ready to rage-trade Will Smith at angry bargain basement prices.

Lindor has to get back to his 2017-19 production to justify even a $31 salary (for '22). That could certainly happen -- he'll be 28 next year -- but like you said, at this current, reset value he feels like a 50-50 proposition.
-
Three bids on $24 Lindor. That feels profoundly pessimistic, even though the final price might be roughly right

Framber Comes Alive! Tonight! Almost makes me want to dig out the old vinyls and put Peter Frampton on, if only I had a useable turntable anymore.

it’s explained in the google sheet
-
I guess it depends. What are the penalties? Sorry for being dense but I didn't notice anything about it in the rules.
-
This might be the year when 1 or more teams are willing to go over $49 in loans.
-
just a reminder to everyone—if you go over $49 in incoming loans, you start getting hit with the arb coupon penalties
-
major bummer about Thor.
-
Alek Manoah 'em down in his debut. Good things can happen with crazy bids.
-
Never mind
-
Syndergaard rehab setback but still presumably has LT value. Eminently available.
-
I get my injured players the old-fashioned way: They hit the IL right after I introduce them in FA auction. Welcome, Jimmy Nelson!
-
wow, good luck!
-
Pretty much. It's a prestige league thing. Trying to make the final 32 at ASB.
-
rusty’s home for broken players welcomes everyone.
-
the rule was intended to respond to a very specific situation, where owners would repeatedly re-auction and re-cut guys to reduce the cap penalty. if someone else starts the auction, then it doesn’t trigger the rule.
-
i can’t remember the exact scenario from last year and apologize if i wasn’t consistent. i agree with Rusty’s explanation.
-
Alright! Does anyone want to trade for a super super valuable Mike Minor @ $2 ? lol
-
I don’t mean to distract from the issue at hand, but... Mike Minor went for $19? What a world.
-
It might have been a misinterpretation. Dave was right in his statement. If you do re-post a cut player, you have to bid the price you dropped him at. If a different owner posts one of your previously cut players, then you're free to bid a lower price.
-
Fwiw, the rule was applied differently last year. On Sept. 22, I asked on the message board: "What are the rules about whether I'm allowed to make an offer to Minor after having cut him earlier this year (given that I did not trigger the free agent offer period)?" The Commissioner's answer was "you have to offer at least $8, his old salary." I ended up offering $12; he signed for $19, so it didn't matter. And I have no objection to either interpretation, as long it's consiste
-
Just want to make it clear. No sarcasm in my remark. Dave did write a good rule. All we wanted was to avoid re-post/cuts with the sole intention of recouping salary cap space, only. If the original owner wanted to reacquire the player at the same salary or another owner wanted to bid on the player, we didn't want to discourage those scenarios.
-
yes, it’s gross
-
Pretty sure its gross. We had this convo at the time the rule was implemented.
-
Another rules clarification: do the arb coupon penalties work on gross or net incoming loans? If a team has 55 in incoming loans but 10 in outgoing loans, do they get hit?
-
I recently re-read the rule and it's even more liberal than that. It only applies if you post a player you previously owned. If anyone else posts your previous player you're entitled to enter the bidding and even reacquire at half the original price. Was a well written rule by Dave.
-
That was my assumption, just checking
-
I defer to the commish on parsing the rule. But to the extent that it’s up for debate, I don’t read it as applying once someone else has picked them up and cut them. And that makes sense to me because the player doesn’t count against your cap anymore once someone else has picked them up.

If I cut a player, and they are auctioned and recut by someone else, do they still go back to my original price if I pick them up?
-
OMG another no-hitter. This season will be the bizzaro version of the '19 Goof Ball campaign.
-
that turnbull no hitter looked pretty sweet on my bench.
-
OK, now that trade feels complete.
-
$1 delusions should not be criticized. I live by 'em.
-
yeah, not saying i disagree with it, just that i didn’t realize quite how delusional it was to think i’d get him for a buck.
-
Greene is 21, hitting triple digits and dominating Double-A. Plus, you can't slip a prospect past Chuck... at least not without an insane and likely counterproductive bid.
-
was not anticipating that hunter greene bidding war
-
All players belong to Croney!
-
haha, mostly he has the virtue of playing nearly every day. i also like that he's on the west coast, so i can plug him in at the last minute, when necessary.
-
I knew it was Dave who posted Crawford! Always banking on a late career surge. :)
-
anyone interested in sano ($14)? make an offer.

I'm Matt, brought into the league by Muskies before the 2019 season (Mark, you're right, we've known each other since college). Born in Chicago in Cubs territory, grew up in Upstate New York, lived in DC for a while, and now am in the Twin Cities. Despite all that and despite never actually having been to Houston, I'm a life-long Astros fan. I haven't been to the World Series, but I was at Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit game, sitting in the bleachers nine rows behind where the home run landed.
-
That's exactly what I did, Richard!
-
it gives me some measure of hope that Farhan Zaidi has identified boring old guys as the new market inefficiency.
-
I'm Richard, I live just outside of Boston. Been a Red Sox fan all my life though I'm admittedly not following as closely during the second Cora administration. Mark pulled me in to this league after the 2016 season. I have never been to the World Series but in 1995 I did beat my friend's cousin in R.B.I. Baseball with a 9th-inning pinch-hit walkoff HR by Danny Heep so I think I have had a similar experience.
-
Corwin/HKB -- if it makes you feel better, I apparently did the exact same thing on Howard that you did on Fried. I clicked the claim button but obviously didn't follow through on the waiver page.
-
It’s gotta be that Mount Rose clubhouse chemistry! (I guess Eovaldi’s locker must be on the other side of the room.)
-
Back to back days w/ complete game/shutouts from Means & Wheeler. Mounty's got it going.
