That is appropriate, I second the suggestion.

In my other league we wiped out the salary-cap penalty for cutting Skaggs. Any interest in doing the same here?

saddest roster cut in otto history

oh dang, sorry to those who messaged me over the last 6 weeks. I dont know why I didnt see them, but im still here! my trade block shall be updated shortly

Props to Kluber who built a great team and had prospects to strengthen his final push. Hell he got $90 + in guys who haven't scored him a point yet. Sometimes those big trades work and sometimes it doesn't. The league longevity is a tricky thing but it is pretty hard to have a competitive team and top young assets to complete the team. This seems pretty common in other leagues, but usually happens a little later around the deadline. Then teams can also become buyers and it creates a good market.
-
oh man, posted all that in a hurry and didn't realize, too many characters. 2nd to last should have ended with "specifically bans salary caps north of a specific figure ($400, $425, whatever we want)..." I'm not adamant about it but if others wanted to I'd probably be interested.
-
No hard feelings at all, just felt like it was a big comment that warranted discussion. I've been too busy for the last month to jump in until now. I expect I'm in the minority with many of my views.
-
Also, this part: "The amount of salary cap space a team has or will get should have no bearing on a veto IMO..." I don't agree. I enjoy the strategy of managing the salary cap, and getting a loan feels like a "do-over" that takes the competitiveness/excitement out of it. If a team is getting a huge loan, that absolutely should go into my decision of whether to veto or not. That's my opinion. Also, if some feel the same, we could make a future league that specifically bans sa
-
In particular this sentence: "I have no problem with a team accumulating incoming loans in future value for present value trades." I think many/most people on Ottoneu agree. I would agree too, if we were locked into our leagues for like 10 years. But we're not. So I'm NOT a fan of these trades, because new owners can come into leagues, strip mine the team for one year of contention, then move on to another league, leaving a smoking ruin behind. We should have to live with our decisions

I wanted to respond to something Danger posted on May 16: "I am not sure what it means for a trade to be "fair" to the rest of the league. In any case, Kluber is not the only team with a payroll over $400. Loans are a part of the game and used to facilitate rebuilding trades. I have no problem with a team accumulating incoming loans in future value for present value trades. The amount of salary cap space a team has or will get should have no bearing on a veto IMO..."

Rizzo is very available, and others too, looking for high end prospects.

I got a -55 from Craig Stammen the other day. He recorded 2 outs.

-46.97 for Corbin Burnes. -46.97!!! in 2/3 an inning. I'd like the league to veto that performance.

I am not sure what it means for a trade to be "fair" to the rest of the league. In any case, Kluber is not the only team with a payroll over $400. Loans are a part of the game and used to facilitate rebuilding trades. I have no problem with a team accumulating incoming loans in future value for present value trades. The amount of salary cap space a team has or will get should have no bearing on a veto IMO, but as I said earlier this season, each team can choose to veto based on his or
-
Trade... Trades should be somewhat fair to both sides and to the rest of the league. This seems to be another one that has the Slack community rolling it's eyes. I have 1 vote and I have veto'd this trade.
-
Regarding the trade. In my opinion this is just another lopsided unfair trade. I see Very little present or future value coming to the Sheck side and 2 valuable everyday players that have already accumulated around 300 points going back to the Kluber side. To make things worse the Kluber side is getting $50.00 in free money to even make the deal. If this trade goes through the Kluber will have a roster with an approximate $550.00 payroll while the rest of us are playing with a $400.00 payroll.
-
It is definitely an attentive mechanism. Similar to salary cap gurus. Albeit, in response to North, I LOVE keepers. I can see that 2020 is building for....2020? That is the sort of team building I really enjoy. But 2020 and I came from a league where we had a farm draft over google sheets, & anyone without big league ABs was available and you could call them up at any time. Trades were fun to include future farm picks & farm talents. I.E. Casey Mize not on an Ottoneu roster but t

Totally valid points. You're right that having untouchable players isn't good for the game overall. I guess what I'm aiming for is a system that encourages cuts and not excessive numbers of keepers over the offseason. Maybe it could be a hybrid where they could be reauctioned, but the original penalty stays with the team that had him overpriced.
-
I disagree with the flaw assessment, personally. It rewards attentive owners and provides a mechanism to lower player salaries to a point that they might be owned again. Like, say you cut a $35 Justin Upton. Probably no one is going to auction a hurt Upton for $18. But if he's reauctioned and cut again, someone will probably attempt to auction him then. Otherwise the player is essentially dead until next year's auction.
-
Good explanation Sabo. I personally would prefer that the cap penalty be frozen with the cutting team for the rest of the year, but that's not how it works. As for the trade, I agree. I only regard one of those guys as worth owning at all, and even he is marginal and at 40% ownership across Ottoneu. Two are at around 25% ownership, and 1 at 65%. Add in a giant loan that exceeds the salaries, it's really one-sided in my opinion, and slack agrees.
-
Sabo, okay that makes a lot more sense. I have seen people do it before, but never to the level I have lately. Thanks for clarifying that that is what is happening. Thought I was losing my damn mind.
-
Can someone make an argument for the pending Votto trade? It seems rather lopsided. Two valuable present assets for an injured top 50 prospect, two prospects at the back of the top 100, and a 28 y/o outfielder who just got demoted. I think you could find better future value on the waiver wire.
-
Bye Bye Baby, I think people are acquiring and then cutting players to reduce the cap penalty on that player. For example, I had Jace Fry @ $4. When I cut him, he had a $2 cap penalty. So I acquired him at auction for $2 and then immediately cut him. As a result his cap penalty dropped to $1. Then I ran out and squandered that dollar on something else.
-
Is there something going wrong with the auction system? I have been seeing people win the auctions and cut the same player that day. If it is just buyers remorse, I get that. If bids aren't being calculated right, though, I just want a heads up. Does anyone have any info?

Miguel Cabrera for nothing? You can have him for taking on his salary, unless I get multiple takers. He's been fine, but I was an idiot for bidding on him (was only trying to drive up the price) and have 4 1B/DH dudes.

We had a prospect draft and a farm in an old league. 5 rounds reverse standing order and you could trade picks. Anyone who hasn’t been rostered before was eligible. Then you could call them up when ever you wanted.
-
Same. I would enjoy expanded rosters. Maybe keep it like it is but add an unlimited "unprotected" minor league side & we could have a rule 5 draft every preseason just like the real thing from which the unprotected players can be taken, but must be added to the new team's 40 man. And the signing team could loan the team that loses the player a couple of bucks for the season & if the signing team cuts him during the season, then that player automatically goes back to the

When I first started playing Otto a few years back I thought having a 40 man roster was crazy. Now I find myself wishing it was 45 or 50.
