Don't get me wrong. I know Schimpf will regress this year (heck he could be on the bench by June if their younger guys play well). I just think he could have more value at that price than what else is out there.

If Baez keeps swinging like he did in the World Series, I'd take Schimpf. Schimpf seems consistent (from what I can tell, at least. I live in Ohio EST so I rarely watch their games) and I'd rather have a consistent guy prone to fly outs than someone with potential to be really erratic. However, I already have Jedd Gyorko, who is maybe half a step down stat-wise, but has been in the majors for longer.
-
the cubs put up the most reg season wins, impressive as that was they weren't decidedly better than any playoff team they faced
that said, Ryan over Javy is a preference
-
I understand the comp, but would probably go Baez over Schimpf. For one, a successful 28 year old rookie is a rare thing. Two, the Padres are an awful team and the Cubs are the best in baseball. Their slash lines may be similar but I would be surprised if Schimpf broke 60 runs scored next year. That offense is a joke.
-
I'd roster Ryan over Baez
-
I agree with your points on Schimpf. Every time I saw him hit, the ball just leaps off his bat. I know someone will probably lose their minds on this next comment, but I compare him a bit to Javier Baez. I just mean from the swing ferocity, swing and miss numbers, etc. Obviously Baez is priced higher because of his age and pedigree but in the end fantasy is about the results. I know history is not in his favor but maybe he has come around in an environment that will allow him to flourish.

Schimpf has a lot of things working against his hype. He's a non-prospect second baseman who was signed as a minor league FA last year. He's older than you'd think for a rookie and is already making $8, which is about the going rate for a MI. Combine that with a high K% and THE MOST EXTREME FLY BALL RATE I'VE EVER SEEN, and I'm not sure that I'd give up anything to get him. He's probably worth what he's paid, but I'd rather go with what I've got.
-
Ryan Schimpf - I really like this guy (good OBP/Slugging in a short season in SD) but I have not received any offers on him this winter. What are your thoughts on him? I have him penciled as an Opening Day starter for my team.

More of a system quirk than a bug. It's because he's a free agent. It messes with their team affiliation.

First year question, but I'm reslotting people in my lineup and was wondering why Pedro Alvarez has his team listed as PIT (AAA) when he did all of 2016 with the Orioles. Anyone have an answer? Maybe just a system bug?

How indeed.

Here's a thing I had to grapple with as a result of DJiB's trade offer: How did Brad Miller hit 30 homers in 2016?
-
Oh crap, was he in the KBO? Joke ruined.

Wish I could comment on trades because I'm very glad to see love for Yangervis Solarte. Getting a little up there, but hopefully he can do well this year. Dude is apparently super friendly and a great clubhouse player.
