And while ESPN or Yahoo! might have to make a decision on Fielder's status, that won't be the case with ottoneu. Once a player is eligible in the ottoneu universe, they're always in the system. Hell, the most recently added player across all leagues was Greg Maddux.
-
60 day DL status ends after the WS so you'll notice none of your players who were eligible are not now. The team either gives them a roster spot or releases them.
-
@DJIB Yup, I was making a goof, my bad if that didn't come across well. I was referencing the fact that, from what I've heard, the Rangers won't cut Fielder, nor will he officially retire. Pending they don't have a devestating injury year, he'll remain on their 60-day DL until his contract ends for insurance purposes. Interesting to see if leagues (ESPN, Yahoo, etc.) will leave him in a player pool, even though we 100% know he will not play again.
-
Concerning Jose Fernandez, he was eligible to be cut after his death, but the owner would still have been responsible for half his salary for cutting him mid season. Given that it doesn't sound like Fielder will ever play again, I would cut him immediately when you are able to next week, as having him on your team only steals from your overall salary cap.
-
SGRE, I want to make sure you understand the rules. Other than receiving a free roster spot, there is no advantage to holding onto a player on the 60 day DL. You are still responsible to pay their salary. You are free to cut any player on the DL, 60 day or otherwise. The only difference right now is that rosters are frozen until November 15. During the season, you are responsible to pay 50% of the salary (rounding up) of any player you cut, which includes 60 day DL or retired players.

Hello everyone! My name is Jerry. I took over impending doom three. Changed the name to Arcia Later. I live in Covington, IN. I am a huge Brewers fan. I am a first time ottoneu player who enjoys trading, so I am sure my first couple of deals will be lose/win options. Thanks to Jeff for the invite. I look forward to chatting with each of you about the game we love.

Awesome, thanks y'all. I knew I was gonna drop Fielder ASAP, I was just trying to figure out when I could do it without having to take on a salary penalty. Sounds good! If you have a 60-day DL slot you're looking to fill for the next few years, Fielder will be available on the 14th.
-
Yeah, feel free to keep Fielder, but a player physically incapable of swinging a bat is probably an unsound investment. Or you can cut him outright and not be liable for any of his salary once roster moves become allowed on the 15th.
-
Sorry I misspoke
After arbitration you can cut and trade until the keeper deadline which is scheduled for Jan 31
The auction draft follows the keeper deadline at a date TBA
-
During arbitration, now to Nov 14, you can't make any roster moves including cuts or trades. Between the 14th and the date of the auction draft in the Spring you can cut or trade any player on your roster. You cannot offer up any non-rostered players (free agents) for auction
-
OK. Just so I'm clear, even though Prince Fielder has, in effect, retired from baseball, it is best for me NOT to straight-up cut him?
-
And with regard to the options I mentioned, any MLB player you want to keep with see their salary increase $2 every year (plus a bit more if he's good and the other owners allocate toward him), while the same is true for any player with no MLB experience, only it is $1 each year.
-
After we finish arbitration in a couple days, rosters moves become possible. All the the players you have are essentially on 1 year contracts with an unlimited amount of team options. After the arbitrating deadline passes, you can cut any player with no penalty. So Fielder would become a free agent who can be auctioned off in March when we have the draft beginning at $1.
-
Also, since this is my first time doing ottoneu, here's an inner workings question: What do I do with Prince Fielder?
Obviously, I should drop him, but word is he's not losing his contract, he'll just stay on the 60 day DL until it expires. Is there a workaround here? How did Jose Fernandez stuff work?
-
Hey all, my name is Max, and I'll be taking over Rod Beck's Beauties. s/o to Jeff for extending the invitation. Introduction-wise, I live in Columbus, Ohio, I work in a library, I do a lot of dumb indie rock stuff, etc.
Growing up in Ohio meant I was raised as a Cleveland fan. I adopted the Cubs as my NL team during my touring years. However, I was at Game 7 so I guess I'm a Cleveland/Phillies fan now? Sad time parting with CHI. Anyway, looking forward to this and thanks for the invite!

We have just filled out the last remaining openings and should now have a complete league going forward. A big shout out to DJIB for recruiting, LCRT for giving us a couple solid leads, and all of the new guys who stepped up to keep the league active for what will be our 7th season. Thanks, everyone. And don't forget to allocate those arbitration dollars!
-
We still have openings for id3 and RBB, so please let urbina and I know if there's anyone you know who's interested in taking over a team.
-
Hey everybody, we've got new owners for Sodo and Latos. Welcome them to the league!
-
Hey everyone, just letting you guys know I will be leaving the league. The lack of an app really made it difficult for me to keep up with the league on a daily basis. Wish you guys nothing but the best and thanks for allowing me to join.
-
One of our last founding members...Thanks for all the good years id3.

I'm going to exit too; sorry guys, I couldn't really give the league the attention it deserves. It was a lot of fun and I like the rules, but daily is just too much for me. Thanks all for good times, and congrats to LCRT for a nice victory!

So I guess this means I'll have to use Sodo's announcement as an open call for replacement owners. We like to offer teams up to friends/family/coworkers first because I believe people stay more active when competing against people they know. So if anyone has someone in mind, please message a commissioner. We would like to get the spot filled ASAP so as not to run into any problems with arbitration.
-
Ditto what DJIB said. Thanks for the 5 good years, Mike.
-
Sorry to see you go Mike. You always ran a good team, and you have the distinction of scoring the most points in league history on the way to your title in 2012. You will be missed.
-
Hi all, I won't be back next year. This has been a great league, and I've enjoyed my time playing with you all, but I don't seem to have adequate time anymore to devote to fielding a competitive fantasy team anymore.
-
Congrats, LC! What a crazy finish. As exciting as an imaginary baseball game can get.
-
and I'd like to thank Hanley Ramirez, who with two outs in the 7th inning, broke up Aaron Sanchez' no-hitter with a towering fly ball directly above the left field foul pole atop the Green Monster...the HR call was challenged and upheld...and that HR provided the margin of victory this season, 0.5 points of HR/9
-
Congrats LC! A fun competitive league again this season!
-
Changing gears, the offseason begins tomorrow and so does arbitration. So think about allocations while you're watching the playoffs, and make sure you lock them in before November 15th.
-
Congrats to LC on the narrow victory! The title was up for grabs until the final day of the season, making it our closest race ever.
-
oooo that makes sense. Thanks. I don't even know how I hit that...
-
You're over the game limit
-
Weird question - anyone having trouble putting players in the C slot? It won't let me put anybody there.

I'm looking into selling off some of my higher priced assets. Just put Greinke, Tulowitzki, and David Ortiz on the block (among others). Seems I'm not going to be able to climb back in it this year. I know I ignored some offers on those players earlier on but if anyone is still interested I'm ready to listen. Looking for prospects and potential keepers in return.

did you keep your receipt?
-
Well isn't that a god damn. Kershaw's on the DL before he can even make a start.
-
Anyone have interest in A-Gon? I'm giving him away for cap relief. I'll accept the first offer (assuming the other team takes all of his cap hit).
