also, I'll plug the "trade block" function so that we can all shore up our weak spots before the regular season starts

hey, checking in y'all....I'm ready to go
-
The auction will go faster than you think, good advice about bidding on premier players, Trout isnt going to go for $1... The biggest drag on the auction is non participating players, the time between players is too long...
-
Its important to note that if you miss a nomination, you get locked out of bidding until the commish(s) unlock you. That will be annoying for Chris and I if you are constantly missing noms, so try to be on top of it and have a good watch list in place so you can nominate quickly.

Oh and one more thing... once we get into the draft and get comfortable, it'd be good not to nominate guys like Mike Trout for $1... if you know somebody is gonna go for 60 start in double digits at least.

Also... having realised the US has already had Daylight Saving Time and the UK hasn't... the draft won't run as late for me. Once we hit 240 players off the board I'll message you guys in the chat window and you can let me know if you're cool to keep going or if you want to stop. Will need unanimous agreement to continue, otherwise we'll pause it and finish it on the 21st.

Hey guys... so tomorrow at 5PM ET we'll start the draft! Most of us are totally new to Ottoneu, so there will be a bit of a learning curve with the draft for everybody involved. If all of you can make sure to nominate on your turns that'll make things move smoother, but I don't think we should penalise missing nominations this year. I would recommend everybody have a look at the draft screen before tomorrow, and maybe youtube a few videos of ottoneu drafts just to get a sense of how it works.

Yes!!! Same!

getting....closer....I'm already slow drafting in another league, can't wait to start the auction and get this league kicked off!
-
Yea I think a trophy is a good idea

If you click on "Auction Draft" it takes you to the draft room set-up. after you look up a player...scroll to the end of his stat line and there is a "W+" . Clicking it puts him on your watch list. The Draft room set up looks pretty good.
-
I agree with Hammers...and would pitch in for a shirsey at season's end.
-
I'd be open to a small trophy type thing (shirsey of the winner's MVP or something) done off site that we pay for, but anything more I'd be opposed to.

I vote no on this being a money league. IF I wanted a money league I would have signed up for a money league.
-
That sounds interesting... how does that work? Is that like a watch list

Hey All; I was reading a bit about how the auction works, and it's possible to update your wishlist a few days before the draft starts. I think this will provided an opportunity to speed things up a bit when drafting.
-
A bunch of us are already in paid leagues with prize money, and most of us are totally new to this format. I'm definitely game to make this paid after this year though if majority is in to that idea

Maybe in subsequent seasons we can introduce prize money but I didnt want this league to be a paid league for first season. You guys are free to make side bets between each other if that's sonething you really want to do, but nothing league-wide until end of this season and only after we put it to vote.

Anyone else interested in doing a $10 buy-in, winner take all for winner at the end of the season? Just realized that our $9.99 tier doesn't support payment through Otteneu. If everyone's down to play for bragging rights, by all means I'm for it -- thought it'd be best to bring this up now then on draft day.

:) that makes me smile. Contreras in the Rye is my new favorite owner and team name, obviously.

Works for me, equally fine with Allocation as well. Whatever Freak-a-Zoids says I agree with; seems like one hell of a guy.

Ok we are 7 to 1 in favour of allocation at the moment. One more vote for allocation will give us 2/3 vote and make it official

I would be fine with the allocation, I was on the fence about it...I'll change my vote too to make it Allocation. (we're already behaving as allocators by shifting our votes even while deciding....ha! I think it's working)
-
Agree... it really mimics the market, lets the owner make the decision and that is an important componet to any league.
-
1 vote for Allocation. Asked in Ottoneu Slack Community, and it was brought to my attention that "the overwhelming majority of leagues use allocation." Additionally, I don't really care for people voting on who should be a FA...not like GMs get to do that? Ha
-
Yea thats the part that interests me about allocation as well... after reading a couple of things about it I'm leaning that way myself. So at the moment, 5 to 3 in favour of Allocation.

Hi ya'll, I'm Evan. This is tough, both options seem interesting. I'd probably lean toward allocation just because it more closely mimics a real GM's job, facing raises of multiple players.

Noticed only 6 of us on Slack space. Notnaure if Drake wants to set up a poll there?

I'm drawn to the Vote-Off system.

so far 3 vs 3. drake, how many other issues are there? would it make sense to use some polling website if there are a lot of other votes to cast?

you have to think about allocating the money- there is a three dollar limit that eack owner can allocate to a particular player, not the end of the world, remember your players are subject too
-
getting players below market value is what you struve for. Having been in a league where we did allocation made the offseason interesting and
-
option 1- arbitration
-
I like both options as they each bring a bit different of a strategy. I would vote for #1, but fine with either. The $25 each team gets to allocate would result in more of a slight across the board bump in player prices instead of as serious as everyone might think in my opinion, although I'm just guessing.

i vote #2. is it set in stone permanently, or could we switch to #1 next season if we wanted?

I can see the positives and negatives of both actually. Allocation is quite an interesting method as well.
