I imagine you can release the player once the wage increases. Being able to re-sign at a discount makes Option 2 a better option in my opinion. Also, the fact you only lose 1 player on option 2 makes that more appealing to me. Option 1 could mean you have to cut multiple players that become unaffordable to too expensive to be worth keeping.

I think without looking into it TOO much, Option 2 would probably be better. I agree with HTD it seems to give you the ability to resign your voted-off player at more of a market cost. The league just can't drive up the price and make you pay for it. They have to put their money where their mouths are and bid on the "restricted FA". I guess the only other thing would be HTD, in Option 1 do you have to keep that player at that cost? Or can you let them go to the regular auction draft an

I think the choice is more "pick your poison". Personally, I vote option 2. I would rather have a player voted off my team and be able to re-sign at a discount than having to drop because their contract is astronomical, and then have to re-sign at the going rate.

Both options seem to have their issues but Option 1 could see any one player from each team having their salary bumped as much $33 bucks potentially - if everyone assigns their allocation to the same player. Could get really expensive to keep a star or mid-to-high cost player.

Well in both cases you're going to lose players, and quite possibly the same player. I think in the case of option 1, a player may become prohibitively expensive (in the case where everybody loads up $3 on your star, for instance, they may have a salary jump $30 in an off season). Option 2 may get your player voted back in to free agency, but allows you to re-sign the player at a discount.

I vote for option #1. I don't think any team should lose a player because he played better than his contract. Those are the players you are suppose to find.
-
1) Allocation gives each team $25 to assign to players on other teams, maximum of $3 to assign to each other team. Players salary increases by the amount assigned to them by other teams. 2) Vote off allows each team to vote on which player on each other teams gets 'voted off'. The voted off player becomes a free agent, although the team from which he is being voted off gets a $5 discount off of bids. So if his team outbids the other teams and signs him for $50, he only actually pays $45

OK so in terms on league settings, we have a few things to vote on. The first thing I'd like to vote on is arbitration. We have two choices with this league: 1. Allocation / 2. Vote Off. I would advise you all to read about the two options in the Rules page, but in summary...

Exactly. I think as long as we don't start at 1 buck for players who will clearly go for a lot more, the bidding process will be fine

The clock resets after each bid, if we make realistic bids, it goes quickly.

it might be better than we think, doesn't bidding add a few seconds to the timer?

I looked in to draft timers, it seems to be fixed at 15 seconds. That being said, we can agree on some gentleman's rules... like don't start Mike Trout at $1, and always nominate when it's your turn. That will speed things up.

OK, *sweet spot* it is it seems, best wishes Bubble Gum, and we didn't even get a taste...it might be good to post the draft times we've decided on to the "League Openings" page with the league description, as we try to get our last owner slots filled.
-
Drake, I agree that 5PM start on both nights for 4 hours each night "is the sweet spot for the majority". Can you look at the setting for the league and let us know what our options are for the time of the bids?
-
I agree about not speeding up picks. While the time suck up front my hurt a bit, rushed picks will hurt the league overall. We're building something to stick around for hopefully a long time, so we need to start out with a strong foundation.
-
Ah damn... I'm really sorry to see you go it's too bad. Ill check that for you shortly

Honestly, it’s probably best to remove me from the league. Time zone differences are too much, I’m afraid. Darn. I don’t have the option to leave the league on my own.
-
It's definitely tough to organise a draft time for 12 people, especially straddling 6 or 7 time zones. Unfortunately I dont think the later start times are going to work for many of us... it seems that 5pm start is the sweet spot for the majority and I think we need to stick with a 5pm EST start time on both dates. I can look in to a fast bid timer, but many of us are new to this format and speeding things up may not be the best idea either.

Starting at 8:30PM and going until 12:30 PM or 1PM and getting up at 5 AM doesn't work for me on the 1st night or 2nd night.

Later start times aren't an option for me.

If you're available after 8PM on 3/21, we could just start at say 8:30. This way if can get thru the majority of slots on 3/20, say ~70%ish, 3/21 won't be as long of a session to do the mop up late part of the auction. $1-3 picks go by pretty fast. Could this be a solution?
-
I saw on fangraphs some drafts worry about a starting lineup first, then finish up the roster when live auctions start for the season. I don't know how that works...but maybe an option one of the commissioners could take a look at?
-
I have that entire night of 3/20 dedicated solely to this auction. From 2pm pacific on. In fact, we could even do it earlier if you all need. I can take the whole day. If we get it all done on 3/20, I'm golden. 3/21 is just undoable for me until a later time.
-
I think we might get it done that evening, the league is was in last year was start up and we finished much faster than expected. we had a fast bid timer- is that an option?
-
Alright. So 3/21 is completely unworkable for me from 5pm eastern to 8pm eastern. How is the auto setting on these auctions? Is it good? If not, I'll have to leave the league. I can't be that handicapped right from the start.

5 p.m. ET works for me on 3/20 and 3/21. I assumed that was when the draft was, based on league settings when I first logged in?
-
OK so 5PM EST works for at least 3 people (Aaron's Hammers, back of the yards, and myself). If the rest of you can let me know what is best for you when you have a moment we can get something agreed upon.

My preferred option for the draft is 5PM ET on 20th/21st. If everybody could let me know a preferred time slot we can select based on consensus.

I'm based in England. I'm not sure if anybody else is. I'm perfectly happy keeping it at 5PM ET as originally discussed, but I'm just offering some flexibility if people wanted something else. I would prefer not to wake up at 4AM two days in a row, haha.

How many here are based in England? 11-11:30 pm eastern time on the 20th In the middle of the week does not work for me.

Alternatively we could set the draft to 11-11:30 pm eastern time on the 20th and I can just get up early.
