This is a new league so I will let you know that I am always willing to me a trade. I took over a dead team last year at the end of June and still made 8 trades. So, if a player is available put him on your block and I will take a look or make me an offer.

I thought this link was pretty cool. It updates with all the trades made in Ott, so you get a better idea of what is a decent trade and why. If you
click "View Trade," you can even see notes about the trade, how many people vetoed it, etc.

All that being said, the actual game of baseball is greater than the sum of its parts, and the unpredictable and immeasurable is what makes it exciting to watch

And if you examine the players who score highest in this format, it aligns with the best players in the game. However, it also reveals which players are over valued in the false economy of R and RBI

So really this method measures individual player ability more accurately than team type stats like Runs and RBIs. So a team that has lots of quality individually-measured players will be the sort of team that would score a lot of Runs and RBIs
Gatekeepers on

For instance, Fangraph Points measures AB/Hits/Walks and every type of Extra Base Hit, and also SB/CS. Players who score a lot of Runs need to get on base a lot... therefore this is measured by Hits and Walks. Players who get lots of RBIs need to mash, and therefore Hits and extra base hits are measured.

Similarly, in order to measure the performance of an individual player, you need to use measurements that only measure the quality of one player at a time. The stats that Fangraph Points measures do just that.

It would be like measuring a person's ability to communicate online using a stat called Comments... which counts how many comments you make. However, just because somebody makes more comments doesn't make them better at communicating... it just means they have more opportunities to communicate. A better stat for measuring the quality of communication would be stats that look at Vocabulary, Grammar, and Punctuation.

Runs and RBI are a great way to measure team performance. However, they are less indicative of individual performance because a Run or a Run-Batted-In by their nature cannot measure a single players performance.

Captain TBD is only saying that because he lost to me in the playoffs of our fantasy league last year
-
The "best team" rarely wins in an H2H Playoff format. Like everything, there is some luck involved. Wouldn't overthink it, we knew the scoring format coming into it and knew it would be different. We will figure it out.

Time will tell if the best team actually wins this league. I just think we may my looking for that hidden value so much that we may sleeping on the basics that runs and RBI's win baseball games. I am in it for the entire season. Win lose or draw.
-
One of the main reasons I joined this league, was that RBI and Runs were specifically NOT being considered with points. Agree with Trout re: player ability vs the team surrounding them. I'm with the camp that Clutch hitting doesn't have a great effect on a player. A player has the same skill set, regardless of who is on base.
-
Trout. It probably should be and option going forward because a good game should be trying simulate MLB and all it's values.IMO, a player that has value in part is one who can score based on his own ability to take the extra base a get that clutch hit with a man in scoring position in all teams good and bad.
-
I like this format a lot honestly. Nothing is context-dependent, pitchers don't get penalized for giving up runs either, just what happens in each individual plate appearance. Regular fantasy categories can be nice, but this is a cool change of pace that focuses more on the player's ability than the team surrounding them.

True Danger Zone. I don't mind different and trying something new. This H2H is in it's first year so maybe Runs and RBI's will be an option for leagues that do think it 's important to the value to a play and league.
-
Oh I agree with you 100%. I didn't mean to say that it doesn't take more talent to score on a hit someone else might not have scored on, or come up with the clutch rbi. Personally I've played more traditional fantasy baseball for like the last 15 years, so this more unique format seemed interesting. Not gonna say it's better than regular roto categories. just something a little different. it can give you a different perspective on players too.

By trying to get too theory based you can lose track of the basic but important parts of the game.
-
If that is the case I don't don't agree. Clutch hitting (RBI'S) are a part of baseball and Every teams makeup in real MLB. Scoring can be a function of a good base runner going from first to third, an important part of the game. By trying to get too theory based you can lose tract of the basic but important parts of the game.
-
https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/support I think they're going for more of a true outcome format. since RBI and runs are heavily dependent on luck and/or other players.

I was not aware of that. Is it listed anywhere in the Community pages as to why it was left out?

I imagine he means that RBI's and R's aren't counted in this H2H format, like they are in many others.
