You can have an invalid roster (either $ over your max, or # of players is over max) at any point in-season, but you get really limited on what you can then do: no lineup changes, no sending / accepting trades / and no bidding on free agent auctions. Basically you can only view stats and standings until your roster becomes valid. Slight wrinkle to your “40” number is that if a player goes on the 60DL, you’re given an extra roster slot, so if you own two guys on the 60 DL, you can roster 42

So how do roster limits work? Once the season starts are you able to go over 40? Or if you're at 40 and you get 2 players for 1 in a trade, then you have to cut someone?

I just did a couple of 3-way trades earlier this offseason in a Yahoo league I'm in (we run an offline spreadsheet) and although they require more work and transparency, they really were a ton of fun. Not sure that's even an option in this format, but it would be interesting!

Yea loans aren’t allowed until after the draft. After the draft passed you’ll see an option to add loans in the trade screen. Please no “handshake agreements” to any off-season trades where a loan is sent in-season after the trade is already done. There will be plenty of people interested in your cap space when the time comes :)

When are loans allowed to be included in trades? I assume either after the keeper date or draft date, right?
