We're voting between 5x5 and Fangraphs points.
-
OK...I'm a bit confused. What am I voting for? 5x5? 4x4? Fangraphs points? SABR points? Any of these? All of these? A mysterious 5th option? Help. Oh...I feel like I should be in on the texting fad: 773/520-1908. That's right...I'm THAT Cub fan.
-
The 5x5 can't be modified. It could only be switched to a 4x4 roto league (obp,slg,hr,rΓera,whip,k,hr/9). Which is why the discussion on points is even happening.
-
Modifying arbitration is one thing, but modifying the scoring system is a big deal. I'll stick with whatever, but @butterfly and anyone else wanting out should receive a full refund if a switch is made.

Personally, I'd like something different than a regular format. That's kind of why I joined.

I'm down with fangraphs points, the 13th works for me.

Hey man im all about democracy. As was previously stated this league is largely transplants from another league, some of the leage formating was a place holder. You sort of previously stated whatever scoring is chosen should be kept for at least a few year. We're just trying to make sure we get it right by most people not just you and I. The real waste of time would be deciding we want to change things next year and redraft. Wasting a year is worse then wasting your last 2 weeks.
-
You are funny I give you that. But ignoring my point doesn't change it. We signed up for a 5x5 league. That shouldn't be voted on or your wasted everyone's time. You haven't even played this league yet and you're already looking down on us. Not a good look but have fun man.

Just let new Oakland A's player, Chris Coghlan, explain the most valuable stats. http://m.mlb.com/video/v544267683/coghlan-uses-statcast-war-ops-to-enhance-his-game/?query=Chris+Coghlan

@butterfly this to league was also billed and a veto-off arbitration system, we're having a vote. The Commissioner also put scoring to a vote, as clearly things were still up for debate when the leage was origionally produced. If you were looking to remain apathetic might I suggest you try to find yourself a nice yahoo public league to join?
-
Clearly I'm arguing you're wrong. It might be a skill to produce your own values, but it's not necessary when someone else does the work for for you. You want to play a format with scoring of baseball 25 years old and increasingly viewed as outdate by the fantasy industry. I certaily prefer roto to points but not when you suck the creativity and skill out of it.
-
OO you are way off base here. this league was billed, and we joined it as a 5x5. that is what it should be and for the next few seasons also. the point you are trying to make about skill is completely irrelevant. Sounds like joined the wrong league or you overestimated your debate skills. You should probably join the high dollar points league to get what you say you want.
-
What are you even arguing? The point of skill is to use your own values, not ESPN/Yahoo/CBS/ottoneu/etc's. It takes no thought to optimize dollar values for a points league.

I'm not saying you're wrong. But everyone else is thinking it at this point.
-
@strikeforce how about the one that doesn't even make me have to generate values? ESPN has 3 different rankings for 5x5 up right now, yahoo 2, Fangraphs 1, and the list rages on I would really like to see the prefab ranking/values ESPN has for an ottoneu points league. Can yo u send me that link?
-
I like skill.

@oakland Generate dollar values for a points league and for a 5x5 league and let me know which one requires more skill

@strikeforce 5Γ5 roto is for no-skill fantasy baseball leagues. You're espn magazine tells you how to draft and what moves to make every week.
-
The mission statement Ottoneu is to build a fantasy game to resemble as closely to managing a real life Baseball teams as possible. I challenge that if each one of you knows baseball as well as you should to be in this type of league, then you are more than capable of accelerating through the learning curve of this league. Rise to the challenge my friends and seeks fantasy glory. Plus your money is non-refundable.

5x5 tends to heavily value luck and circumstance (Runs, RBI, Wins, Saves) instead of valuing each player by their individual merit and skill. Instead of valuing high K sluggers, and empty reckless base thief's over other hitters we allow players who impact the game in less noticeable ways (BB,2B,3B,Holds, HR suppression, BB suppression) to hold their own value. These things hold great real life value and are an important part of the game.
-
The only difference really between the two points formats seems to be that SABR Points values elite pitching a little more then Classic. I can only speak for myself but I joined this league because I was looking for a new challenge, I want to learn a bit more about this game we all like to play play. I've been playing non-standard (5x5) for a few years now and the thought of reverting back to the standard out-dated format seems silly.

FWIW, I joined this league for 2 distinct reasons: 1. The draft date/time worked for me. and 2. It was 5x5. I won't quit if it goes to points, but I'm not looking foward to having to learn the system. Again, I'll do what the majority rules.
-
If we switch to points I am definitely out. Which I would hate to leave but whatever.
-
@betances what points would we use? FG points or classic points?
-
Hey guys, I have been texted by the majority of the league. It looks like this league will be an allocation system for arbitration. The only issue that I am running into is that many want this league changed to a points system rather than 5x5. please let me know who is opposed to this change.
Thanks!

Doesn't my shitty family beat you every year?
-
Everyone this is Joshua, He is just a peach. Feel Free to slander him and his shitty family (A'swillbebetter and I cum for Correa) the enitre year.
-
Why are we moving to a more technical league to take a step back in scoring? I have a great idea how about you're all not a bunch of pussies and we switch to points.
-
We both know that's not true Rawson.
-
LOL oakland ocelots. I welcome the ruining. Though to be fair, I am a decent self-ruiner.

I already hate this league. I want the vote off system so I can abuse it and use my influence to annually to screw someone's team. Half-Butterfly Effect you're about to get ruined.

I agree with 5x5. That is why I signed up for the league.
-
I prefer the traditional 5x5. I wouldn't be opposed to changing average for OPS or ERA for FIP, but i really do prefer the traditional 5x5. less work.
-
@rawson it is currently a 5x5 and i wouldn't be opposed to changing it. I want to make this league what you guys want it to be. But I did prefer the 5x5 over the 4x4 SABR set up.
-
@strikeforce The draft is set to Pacific time, but I am worried about the day as of now. we can hammer out a time that works for everyone once we have a date.
-
I can do the 13th as well

I like allocation as well. We're currently set up as roto 5x5. Is that what we're doing or is it just a place holder?

Is the 10am start time Eastern or Pacific? I can't make it until 1pm EDT -- regarding arbitration, I prefer allocation

@League Can everyone read the rules. We need to vote on the arbitration system. It's either vote off or allocation. I will go with the majority of the league.
-
I think I am already in love with this league. is that wrong?
-
I agree. I'd rather do it all in one shot.

This is a new league and the draft will take a long time, but I rather try to marathon it on a day that works for everyone then trying to get everyone together on two different occasions.
