If it's such a great deal, then other teams should drive the price up as Commish did this past season. I love that he bid it up. That's great competition. My only beef the whole time was to cut appropriate amount of players after to have a legal roster. I think that's the rule that should be understood to all. If you bid and win, then make cuts from your team to have a legal roster. Again, thanks for the much needed last few posts Commish. Now, lets move on and have some fun.

Appreciate the stand up and apology Torpedoes. My last opinion and then let's move on to better things. It is not against the rules to bid/add players from auctions on the last day/end of season. There should be no penalty regarding this so long as appropriate drops are made by the team that wins bid that causes team to go over roster limit. Even if those drops need to physically be done by Commish. There is nothing wrong/no rules against bidding late in season.

However, it seems that is still not the case, though I am not quite sure why. I truly don’t want to fight and I do want competing in this league to be a fun—and fair—experience for all. In order to get a fresh start and move forward, I will go ahead and release all of the other players who I won on the final day, and if no one else wants to take over as commissioner, I will do my best to be more proactive in enforcing the spirit of the game.
-
Okay, guys, this is supposed to be fun. And challenging. I sincerely apologize for any angst I have caused in working through this issue. I truly was under the impression that the consensus of the members of this league was that we should be able to do anything that the Ottoneu website allowed. In dealing with the complaints over the flurry of season-ending auctions (none of which were initiated by me) I felt that getting down to the money/player limits would be satisfactory.

If you KNOWINGLY go over roster limits as specified in the rules at the end of the season, where Ottoneu does not govern, then those players in which were chosen should be cut. It's really simple. PLEASE do not make it out to be more then this. 60 day DL players do not count against your roster in season, so therefore should not count in this instance either.
-
Personally I do not care who the league manager is, so I would abstain from that vote. As for the rules, I think they are clear about the roster and "knowingly going over," however, unlike the regular season Otteneu doesn't lock your roster. Most likely because of the 60 day DL. Ottoneu should do a better job of policing this type of situation, but they don't. Hence the grey area. I think it's simple on our end.
-
I would submit that it might be more productive to propose how this league-specific rule should read and how it can realistically be enforced. I hear a lot of complaining, but no ideas on how to come up with something that can be understood and agreed upon by all going forward. Until that can be done, it seems like some of you are just set on penalizing me for some reason. That said, I will be happy to pass the commissioner duties on to someone else if that is the consensus of the group.
-
The prior complaint was from some jackass who joined the league for about a month last offseason before he neglected to show up for the draft or pay his dues. I am sorry for the confusion regarding all of these players, but I did not start the bidding on any of them and even 6 weeks later we are unable to reach consensus on what the "rule" should be or how it should be enforced. I only took over as Commissioner in an effort to save the league when our last one dropped out just before t

I have contacted Niv about our league. We do have the option to get a new Commish. Niv did actually let me know that he has other complaints regarding the Commish in our league as well. There must be others that have a problem with Commish as well. Evidently, enough for others in our league to contact Niv as well.

I would rather remain in this league. I think we have a good group. Just not happy with Torpedoes leading the group. Torpedoes is a fine owner and stays competitive. I just think the league needs to go in a different direction in who leads the league as Commish.

I would like to call for a league vote as to who wants a new Commissioner in our league. I am asking that owners please post your vote of Yes, prefer Torpedoes steps down as Commish and we get new Commish or No, prefer Torpedoes remains Commish. I vote Yes, I prefer we get a new Commish. I would rather have a less argumentative leader that is focused on being supportive and keeping the league together by following rules set forth.

Two rules below to explain what is already defined by Ottoneu. Read the rules above and the answer is there. No votes needed. Just follow the rules.
* At no time should a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league's commissioner.
*However, there is no salary cap from the end of the MLB season until the keeper deadline.

And that is what I did. I price-enforced the bids and got stuck with the players, none of which I put up for auction. Now it is the timing of making appropriate cuts that is in question. Ottoneu mandates by Jan. 31, but I went ahead and made some now as a good faith gesture. If somebody wants to propose a new league-specific rule that we can vote on, please do so. It seems to make the most sense that any players acquired at the end of the season must be made room for, but enforcement is tricky.
-
So by "nobody" you actually meant "I". Glad we are now on the same page.
-
A vote would only clarify this specific area in our league which the rules are uncertain.
-
Oh FFS, you do realize we can go back and read what you wrote right? -- "When I saw that an absurd number of player auctions had tactically been initiated to expire within hours of the start time of the season’s final games, I felt it was my duty as commissioner to price-enforce by placing appropriate bids that would ensure nobody was loading up their roster for the offseason with a multitude of additional cheap players, however marginal they might be."

That was your statement. I don't care if you cut or not but there is a valid argument on whether it's
-
I never stated that I bid on the players for the integrity of the league. I simply agreed that warehousing extra players, just like tanking, are areas of integrity that should be addressed if we are to be the best league possible. It's obvious nobody wants to go that far, so this assertion that I should be blindly stripped of these winning these bids is completely absurd. If I must cut every player I won the bidding on, what is the rule that is being proposed going forward? Think, people!
-
That is the first time that you were totally upfront about your intentions. Now we can discuss the vague offseason roster rule as a league and put it to a vote. Everyone is pissed because you are the commissioner and this level headedness and sense of what is fair should be coming from you the commissioner.
Carver High on

The reason is because you stated it was for the integrity of the league. That was your statement. Then you back tracked and wanted to punish the teams who started the auction. Now you're fighting to keep them. It makes no sense. Which way is it? You haven't been approachable on this discussion, just defensive. Have a vote and a regular discussion and be done with it. This shit has dragged on for too long.
-
Honestly, this whining has gotten completely out of hand. There is absolutely no rule in Ottoneu that clearly mandates I cut anyone at this time, much less specific players. I won the bidding on them fair and square, but as a good faith gesture in an effort to address this gray area going forward, I relented and made cuts far earlier than necessary. Why should I have to cut the specific players I picked up? That obviously was not the intent of the team who started the auction on them.
-
You have been given every opportunity and a great deal of time to make this right. Instead of doing the right thing you argued with your fellow league mates and waffled between reasoning. You have until the end of day today to fix this.
-
That's a bastardization of the rules. As previously stated, non-commish owners do not have the ability to make cuts after the season until arbitration ends. Which means that if a non-commish owner had done what you did, they would have been in violation of the rules for a month and a half before they could voluntarily make cuts without the help of the commissioner. It also flies directly in the face or your original statement of "protecting the integrity of the league".
-
That's the rule. You can pick up players on the final day, so long as you create room for them. Simple and straightforward.
-
Torpedoes, Torpedoes, Torpedoes! So, instead of being the commish and doing what's best for the league and picking up those 15 players and then putting them back as free agents so we as a league could decide how to handle that situation in the future, you decided to sift through them and take who you wanted. Wow! Nice work commish.

One week left. I trust all owners will finish their Arbitration dollars and this whole free agent debacle will be dealt with. After that, I think we have an exciting off season in store for both real baseball and fantasy. I've got a TON of trading to do, so be prepared!
-
I agree with Hotspurs.
-
Personally, I don't feel that's needed so long as the players in question are dropped before the end of arbitration. If his original statement is true and it was done to "protect the integrity of the league" then that's fine, just drop the players in question. If that doesn't occur, then I'm not opposed to a change.
-
I would however like to call for a league vote as to who would like to request that Torpedoes step down as Commish in this league. My vote is that I do want Torpedoes to step way from Commish duties. He has failed to show the leadership qualities that is needed for Commissioner, therefore I vote we seek a new Commissioner for the league. Others, please post your vote/preference regarding seeking a new Commish.

There are no problems with you winning the bids. The problem is you have not followed rules and cut players as rules state you are supposed to do. See Section I Rosters-Overview, and look at c. Elefantes has done nothing wrong, I have done nothing wrong. If Elefantes had won the bids and was over the roster limit, then I would be asking for him to make his cuts. But he didn't win the bids, so no cuts are needed. I did make cuts for any players that I won and am not over the roster limit.

Torpedoes-your really having trouble comprehending this. The one and only issue at hand is that you are grossly over the roster limit. I could care less who bid, who won last day auctions. It is not against the rules to bid at the end of the season. It is against the rules(and the rules listed above top right corner do define this) to be over the roster limit. Read the rules above or previous messages where it has been presented to you.

you're the only one not competing with integrity. you added players, in season, and did not adjust your roster to reflect the rules. you instead coasted into the off season and then applied those rules to your roster.
-
I have stated that I am not opposed to cutting players. I am all for expanding the powers of the Commissioner to ensure everyone is competing with the highest integrity. I just want to make sure everyone is clear on what precedent we are setting. I do not believe that I should be penalized simply because I am the commissioner. All the Ottoneu rules related to roster limits refer to in-season and pre-draft, so we are definitely customizing our league with whatever is decided here.
-
it's been an entire month, instead of you just cutting players, youve accused me, accused others, and stalled out with inaction.
