Speaking of walks, Porcello threw a CGSO last night without issuing a walk or recoding a K. I wondered when the last time that happened and got my answer: Jeff Ballard, 1989 (Clemens also in 1987)

Billy Hamilton hasn't walked in 14 games (63 ABs), but is batting .323 during that span. Longest current non-BB streak is Darwin Barney with 87 ABs (last BB was 5/24).

And, just like that, I'm obligated to report (since i don't like when other teams fail to do so), I've gotten a very intriguing offer for Mike Minor -- so if you have interest better get in touch with me ASAP.

I hate mike minor

Ironically, Farquahar is teammates with Chris Young, the 2nd tallest player ever. Farquahar has pitched in 2 games started by Young...largest height difference between SP and RP in a game? Probably...13 inches.
-
Leake is 5'10". 3 pitchers are shorter than that: Stroman (SP), Farquahar (RP), and Frasor (RP)....all 5'9".

Except ride Tower of Terror... #shortjoke

Altuve would win an ERA title easily. He can do it all.

Only short pitcher in general that I can think of is Tim Collins.

How tall is Lincecum?

but I can't think of any short 175 IP guys recently

it can't be true

I read a stat like two years ago which I've never confirmed but would be amazing if true, it was something like nobody under 5'10" had qualified for an ERA title since 1980 title except Tom Gordon once (re Stroman)
-
Surprised to read how open to trading Bundy and Stroman Baltimore and Toronto were.

Every time I'm back at Duke in the summer, they have massive surplus Athletic department sales along those lines, selling used baseball jerseys for like $20. I may or may not have been suckered into buying about 7 thus far

In an article about packages that could acquire Price, was reminded "the Jays said no to acquiring Daniel Bard, Michael Bowden, Clay Buchholz, Felix Doubront, Nick Hagadone and Justin Masterson for Halladay in July of 2009."

Last little fun fact about Price's 2014 season: he has the 2nd best K/BB rate of any qualified SP ever...10.29 (Bret Saberhagen in 1994 is #1 with 11.00 K/BB; Cliff Lee's 2010 is 3rd at 10.28)
-
And since 2000, the feat has been accomplished 10 times, by 5 pitchers: Carlos Silva (2005, 2006), Jon Lieber (2002, 2004, 2006), David Wells (2003, 2004), Brad Radke (2003, 2005), and Maddux (2004). Fascinating.

Fun fact this morning: David Price has given up more HRs this year than BBs (17 v. 14). It's only been done once since the 2010 season...by Josh Tomlin's 2011 campaign (24 HRs v. 21 BBs).

But if I cut him now I can potentially re-auction him this season for a lower salary, then keep him at that lower salary. If I wait until after the season to cut him he'd go to auction much closer to his return, likely requiring a higher auction price.

If you cut him after the season you save the money and nobody can auction him until draft

Has nothing to do with saving money now, everything to do with saving money next season.

Speaking of Schwarber, Niv tweeted about two weeks ago that 2014 signed draftees would be added to the pool "now*, but Schwarber's still the only one I see. #slack

But if I can get him for $6 or even $3 or whatever during the season and not risk the auction, doesn't that make more sense? Not that I should need to explain my strategy, but this one seems obvious

I understand the need to save money, but even Kyle Schwarber isn't going to go for $28
TTBNL on

I guess my point is that you could carry him into the off-season for nothing, and if others find him valuable, you could trade him. If not, you cut him and sign him for $6 (or less) in the draft.

Shouldn't need to explain the value of saving money on players where you can.
