2) We need to pick a date for the auction draft. I've advocated for an early distribution coinciding with when pitchers and catchers report (~2 weeks after the keeper deadline), but we usually opt for a traditional March draft. Please post up or contact me directly to advise on availability or lack thereof and preference as you like it. Recent auction drafts have taken, roughly, 2.5 hours and are often held on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon (Eastern time).

More practically: 1) We are less than two weeks out from the keeper deadline. This also doubles as the renewal deadline. The balance of you (excepting Jose and Tony), please be sure to have your teams paid for by Jan 31. If you don't do this, the team will be marked as expired and anyone who wants to pay for it will be able to claim it.

Here to make a few general announcements, though it looks like you're all carrying on well enough. Primarily, I will take the under on Tony's Voit projection but that's why we play this game. Also must address the conspiracy by MLB to tank the value of Tuve. He's a modest man and rightly noted the ladies would go wild had he removed his shirt on national television. Buzzers and bandages, psh...

One of the nice features of Justin Vibber's wondrous machine is that you can input your own custom values without too much difficulty (I think the easiest way to get a fairly complete listing of players with the ottoneu ID is to export the average salaries page), so one is not beholden to Depth Charts. So if one wants to be quant and, say, correctly price Tim Tebow at something ~ $10 then you can do that.

Oh, I didn't mean anything personal by it; if you trade Yelich, the return will be what you seek and that's really the end of it as far as I'm concerned. Sometimes a team trades a two time CY winner for a relief pitcher and a fourth outfielder, after all. My point, more so, is the surplus calculator is Depth Charts (i.e. Steamer plus some fiddly PT estimates by Jason Martinez) by default, and a new user should be aware of that (not you, Miguel, but we some owners who are new to this platform).

Hi, Walker, Wheeler, Kluber, and Tebow. - I am not married to anything...I just like having all the available data. I've played Ottoneu for 8 years now, and the SC has always been useful. For the record, I am perfectly fine not trading and just working the wire...So, any offers don't trouble me.
I do agree that it's important how we all value our players, and it's also good to underscore that it's highly likely we all value guys differently. Big fan of Avisail, btw.
-
That said, this is where I post the obligatory George Box quote ("models...wrong...useful") and urge you all to take good care with how you value players. And Miguel, if you are well and truly married to these projections... I'd be happy to ship you Avi Garcia and G Richards for Yeli, and let you keep the "surplus" surplus value to sweeten the deal. So what do you say, do we have a deal? ;)

For the ottonoobs who don't know what Miguel is on about: (https://community.ottoneu.com/t/ottoneu-surplus-calculator-2020/6528). You'll need Google Docs to use it as designed. And while we're here, the NFBC sharps have started sorting player values via 15-team Draft Champions and a few 12-team 50s; these are both draft and hold formats, and you can view those ADPs as they come in: (https://nfc.shgn.com/adp/baseball).

With the surplus calculator out, I am kind of happy that I didn't rush to make trades. Will be looking at things closely next week and maybe pursue some leads. Not sure that by me saying trading Yelich it read as I was going to give him away. I am sorry if I gave that impression. Thanks to anyone who's reached out and sent out offers. It got a bit overwhelming there for a second.

A rolling stone gathers no moss, and neither does Russell. Also in the running for best team name now too. By the by, Charlie Sheen auctioned off the cap he wore as Wild Thing Vaughn; it went for just north of $14k. Alas, I was not the winning bidder.

Please welcome Jose as the new owner of what is now Bezobrazie. He's a veteran Razzballer who I've spent a couple seasons squaring off against in RCL, where I've more than met my match. With that I do believe we are now, indeed, topped off for 2020. As you were, and proceed at the pace of the Winter Meetings (which have been pleasantly brisk, at least when compared to last year).

Hello to all, Chris has roped me in to take over the team formerly known as nom, nom, nom.
I'm new to this format, so bear with me while I get my feet under me.
I am open to trading always, and specially with the team I am inheriting.
Looking forward to a competitive league.

Eric logged back in but remained incommunicado; as such, I set Firehouse Roto to private and marked Nom nom nom as abandoned. If you know anyone who wants the team, please direct them to the Claim A Team/Available Teams page. There are two other $100 tier 5x5 leagues with an abandoned team up for grabs so we have competition. I'll also post up on the community to amplify signal; anyone who's on Slack, I'd appreciate it if you can put in a word there.

I will give it a couple more days, though, just in case. Thanksgiving holiday is often an active time for trade talks in ottoneu leagues, as is Xmas/New Years. It would be great to have it resolved by the latter date, and maybe Eric shows up in time for the former. Everyone needs a break.

It's an evergreen problem in dynasty leagues, as I'm sure you're aware Tony. I feel like cases need to be handled ad hoc. You don't need to participate in the offseason, after all, though I believe we'd all rather someone who's actually open for business and participating. I'll likely take Russell's advice and set the league to private once Nom nom nom is marked as abandoned, ask for dues up front as a condition to join. Further, if Eric wants back in he knows where to find us.

Thanks for opining Russell; I tend to agree with you. Anyone else? I'll wait a few more days to see if Eric shows up; if he logs in again and doesn't bother with Firehouse, then I'll plan to mark Nom nom nom as abandoned. If anyone knows someone who has lots of free time on their hands, send 'em this way.

We're off and running post-arbitration with our first trade, and thus the slow burn to the penalty free cutdown deadline has begun. This deadline also coincides, for the first time, with the renewal deadline (Jan 31). We have one team (Nom nom nom) that is not bothering to participate, so I ask the assembled: would you prefer to let that team sit until the Jan 31 deadline and look to fill it with the sort of owners that show up around that time or seek a replacement before then?

Here to note that we're officially into hot stove season (or szn?) with the GM Meetings underway, and perhaps some interesting or actionable news trickling out. Also here to remind you all (but principally Eric) that we've less than 72 hours left in the arbitration phase, after which we are free to make trades and penalty free cuts in the service of getting our teams positioned for the Jan 31 keeper deadline. Thanks to most of you for getting these allocations set well in advance.

Indeed, though I'll take the opportunity to remind the three holdouts that you now have less than two weeks to set those allocations. Even if you're waiting to account for all the news that comes in up til the deadline, take the 15-20 minutes now to allocate as you can stop back to change them up if news breaks late. There are always cases where owners choose to wait and "were just too busy" over the course of THIRTY DAYS to come back and get it done, so let's not tempt fate please.

We've still 3-ish weeks before arbitration is over; thanks to the majority of you for getting this knocked out well ahead of time. Thus begins the slow burn of the ottoneu offseason. I'll simply encourage you to start reaching out, if you like, to pave the way for trade discussions and suggest you stay plugged in through the hot stove as we all work toward getting rosters set for the Jan 31 deadline. Also note that is the deadline to renew for the 2020 season (link on dashboard page).

We'll stick with 48 hours then. I probably don't need to check in on this anymore, unless someone wants it enough to bring it up as something they want to see changed. That's how it got added as an option that can be toggled in the first place, as 48 hours was/is the default. Thanks for the input gentlemen.

48 hours, please...I am tied up in all ends, and I am afraid that 24 hours could sneak by me.

I prefer 48 just to prevent any trade shenanigans.
-
I don't feel strongly either way, but for the sake of the democratic process, Ill vote for 24 hour review.

I don't see a reason to change it but I don't have strong feelings about keeping it either. Much like in my actual life, I obtusely refuse to consider the ramifications of the alternatives to any degree

Speaking of settings, does anyone feel strongly about 48 vs 24 hour trade review? It's an option we can toggle and have left it at the default 48 hours, but I check in each year as the ownership evolves. Anyone want to see this change to 24, or feel strongly about leaving it at 48?

Also, Chris, I think you can mark it abandoned so it shows up as available, but then make it private so they have to reach out to you in order to be added. You could screen. Maybe even ask a new owner to pay up for 2020 as a show of commitment before they make any moves.

We are still looking for someone to take over Orange Justice. Please let me know if you have anyone who wants this sort of immersion in fantasy baseball. I'll continue to try out the Community; for those of you active on Slack, I'd appreciate it if you can check in over there. If I mark the team as abandoned, it may make it easier to draw in a new owner but we also run the risk of getting someone who will assign, deal, and dash.

While I'm here, please note that arbitration has officially started and will run through midnight ET Nov 14. There's an 'Arbitration' submenu now available from the taskbar on the home page. Click through and you'll likely be able to take it from there. Reminder that you must a) spend all $25 and b) allocate at least $1 and no more than $3 to each opposing team (e.g. you can throw $2 on each team and have $3 left over to stick it to three other teams).

If anyone else isn't planning to be back for 2020, please let me know ASAP. We'll try to get someone in posthaste, but there's not always a ready supply this time of year. I believe we'll have two more openings (Orange Justice and L.A. Deli), but will wait for those owners to confirm. I'll ask those who are leaving to make arbitration allocations before they bail, though in the event they do not and we can't get the replacement in time then those assignments unfortunately won't happen.

Kudos to Paul for getting it done in two sentences re arbitration, and thanks to Russell for pitching in with the succinct explanation. Only additional points I think are worth it to emphasize are that you have to allocate all $25 for any of them to count and that we are on moratorium until Oct 15, after that you'll have through Nov 14 to do the assignments. You'll see a submenu for arbitration pop into the task bar on the league home page on Oct 15.

You get $25 to allocate towards all the other teams. You can't allocate more than $3 towards any single team or player, and you also need to allocate at least $1 to every team.
