It appears we have one unresolved issue before Draft Day. Bregman's roster is "illegal" as currently constructed. I have alerted the GM and he is willing to correct with a few additional cuts before the Draft. He is also new to Ottoneu, taking over the team about a week before cut deadline, and perhaps did not fully understand the rules. Given that new owners are extended a round of penalty-free cuts, and the circumstances, I would like to extend to Bregman the opportunity to get his r

Anyone unable to draft on Sunday, March 14 at 4 pm Central time?
-
Vote for Sunday with mid-March date or later if season is delayed
-
Weekends usually work for me.

I have a draft scheduled for March 22. Pretty flexible otherwise.

Don't have a strong draft preference. Sun and Sat are best but I can make weekday nights work if need be (I'm PST).
-
I think mid-march makes sense with the uncertainty behind the season start date but am fine drafting sooner. Saturday or Sunday is preferable
-
Thanks for being understanding Commish. I’m good with whatever everyone else wants on draft date. I’ll make it work.

Any strong preferences for draft date? In the next few weeks or closer to season start in mid- to late-March? Last year I think we did Sunday afternoon, which seemed to work well for most. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks! It was an honest mistake.
Cut:
Hosmer, Wong, Odor, Semien, Benintendi, Cain, Peralta, Santana, Polonco, Akiyama, Moniak, Hendricks, Ray, Tanaka, Folty, Odorizzi, Freeland, Teheran, Greene, Losiaga, Ottovino, Melancon

Rather than wait for someone to howl that Sons of Pitches has had 2.5 months to make cuts, I will make a proposal. Honest mistake? Ok. It is in the league's best interest that Sons makes his cuts. However, there is a period of analysis here not afforded to other owners. So, Sons, please submit a list of your cuts by noon today on the league message board and I will manually make them.
-
Commish tools have an option to manually make penalty free cuts.
-
Well, I came on to cut my players at 11:12 CT. Evidently the deadline was Eastern Time. I live Central Time zone and did not know this. Can I cut players?

This is disheartening. I am new to the league, and my trades have upset at least two owners here, kicking off the current dustup, so...I don't want to overstep. But I do hope this can be resolved without the commissioner feeling as though he needs to vacate not just his position, but the league as well. I agree with Prohibs that the suggestion of collusion, without asking for an explanation, was unnecessary and, frankly, hurtful. I would hope that after two days, tempers have cooled.

Win, this league is in trouble. I don't have any interest in continuing as commissioner and have about as much enthusiasm about staying in the league. If you are willing to put up with the whining and bullshit of being commissioner of a no-prize money league, please let me know in the next couple of days. When your hobby starts to create stress, especially in these times, maybe you need a new hobby.

The more I think about this situation the more unsettling I find it. The comments from Pitches and Puig about cheating, stealing and collusion are inappropriate. My response was to provide precedent and share discussion of the trade, which was an absolute mistake on my part. The effect of these comments will be to discourage trading and year-round engagement, which is why I find this format to be fun. If this makes even one GM tentative about pursuing trades that they think will help their team
-
Actively looking to trade Alvarez, send me an offer if interested. Also I think maybe everyone should take a step back and exhale on this Cole trade, this isn’t a big money league and we’re supposed to be getting excited for baseball! Good luck this year everyone
-
“Old sport”, “sour grapes”, really Des Moines? The light of day must be burning you.
-
Puig, thank you for ignoring the preceding trades for aces. Thems some sour grapes, old sport.
-
Des Moines, it’s hardly surprising to read you argue it was a reasonably balanced trade. You know I strongly disagree, which is why I vetoed the trade. Whether it was collusion, or just a seasoned manager taking advantage of a neophyte, is impossible to discern. Sons of Pitches, thank you for reminding us of Des Moines’ previous willingness to grant Polar Bear extra draft privileges that violated our league’s constitution. It is relevant history. Be on guard, all.
-
$3 loan for Adalberto Mondesi at $3, Jackie Bradley at $4, and Trevor May at $4. Seems like the Cole trade was pretty well in line with what others aces have gone for in this league in the past, especially if you value top prospects highly.
-
For frame of reference: in March 2020, Max Scherzer at $60 for Vidal Brujan at $2 and Luis Patino at $2. In July 2017, Chris Sale at $48 and $7 loan for $23 Kyle Seager, $13 Adam Eaton, and $5 pre-breakout $5 Austin Meadows. In Dec. 2017, Sale at $51 and Jake Bauers at $4, for Domingo Santana at $14 and Jimmy Nelson at $8. In Jan. 2018, Sale at $58 for pre-breakout Cody Bellinger at $31, Tommy Pham at $7, Collin McHugh at $7 and pre-breakout Hyun-Jin Ryu at $8. In March 2019, Justin Verlander a

Puig's driver: please do not tell me to chill out. I am not offended. I am legit asking what people think would be a fair trade. And I think my tone has been level and fair. Again, this is my first year in Ottoneu, I think it is fair to ask for opinions on the trade, particularly when several owners have said I was rolled in the trade. I get that trading a top-3 pitcher carries weight...I am not throwing a fit, but I do think I deserve some explanation for the strong opinions expressed her.

For me, I think there is a non-zero chance the season is cancelled. And I probably do not keep Cole at $51 (plus whatever other teams add to his contract this offseason). My team has lots of holes on offense. Schwarber is a potential top-20 OF, not a huge impact but, but a solid second or third OFer, and his contract is manageable. Nimmo I peg for 5.5 P/G, or better, another solid third OF option. Valuing prospects is tough this year, but both are potential impact bats.

Polar Bear, this isn’t an attack on your skills as a manager, nor is it an accusation of collusion, so chill out. I’ve already stated what standard I apply. We will all see the merits of the trade through our respective lenses
-
What would have been fair value for Gerrit Cole? Curious what the standard is here. As I said, this is my first year playing Ottoneu, if the trade is terribly unbalanced, I would like to know what a blaanced trade looks like. What should I have received? From my perspective, no one seemed particularly inclined to trade a top-10 offensive player for Cole, which was my target. So...where should I have been looking?

Few of us can ever be certain when collusion happens, so my standard is to veto trades when they seem VERY unbalanced. This particular trade didn’t seem nearly balanced at all, so I vetoed it. If this results in shooting down the occasional legit arms length transaction, so be it. I’ve never heard a fat lady sing when collusion happens
-
Agree with Puig. There is a system in place to deal with issues like this, and almost no one used it. I also think that typical strategy has been thrown for a loop this year and there is STILL a possibility of no season, which might make these trades look very different. Personally, I likely wouldn't have made those trades but they don't feel like collusion so I didn't veto.
-
I totally agree with Sons of Pitches that Polar Bear did not receive enough value in return for Gerrit Cole. It's totally absurd. However, I am the only manager in our league that actually vetoed the trade, as 10 of the other 11 managers abstained. My feeling is that if you don't take the time to monitor the league and veto the trade, don't gripe. I hope this will inspire you all to become more active participants. Keep your eyes open so it won't happen again. Congrats on the steal, Des Moines
-
I don't think anyone should jump immediately to suggestions that cheating or collusion is involved when trades are made that we don't like or understand. The first response would be to ask those involved to explain their thinking, and then if they don't explain to your satisfaction or choose not to explain, you can vote to veto the trade. Or possibly I am misreading Pitches' post and he was making a joke about Prohibs setting up Polar Bear to win so they can split the prize money.
-
Pretty lame, Pitches. I've made probably 10+ trades since the end of last season, and didn't hear you howl when I moved Gallo, Bellinger and others. Nobody needs to run valuations or timelines past you. If you don't like it, veto it. If the trade is so absurd, you probably will not be the only veto. I haven't heard from you once this offseason about a potential trade and that is your business. I'm always willing to deal and most of the league is too. I'd even move Cole.
