pitching seems to be ahead of the hitting early on.

Alright! Back to short- normalish! Just got outclaimed...or whatever. Feels great to experience the surging rush...now back to designing my catcher mask mask.

I hope they do or someone else who is way past due like Cleveland. I just hope no one hits .400 in this shortened season so we don't have to deal with that argument for the next 50 years.

Let's get into this weirdness. Probably the year the Mariner's take it all!!!
I'm mini-stoked!

I have two opt outs and three Covids.

Geez, Alton tough break.
-
I've got two positive tests...
-
who is leading the league in opt-outs? I have one so far.
-
don't give him any ideas!

When will Manfred institute the three-pointer?

Perhaps in terms of the "sanctity" of the game, but these changes don't really affect our league - beauty of the points system we use.
-
Manfred is turning it into Little League.
-
Ok, let's do this!
-
There isn't any more room to lower expenses, so increasing revenues seems like the only way to bring the parties together. I definitely like the game strategy required with the pitcher hitting, but that domino was inevitably going to fall

corporate advertising on uniforms?

well, it looks like there will be the DH in 2020 and 2021. baseball is now a youtube experience for me.
-
you must be listening to KMOX as well at the moment.
-
Sounds like a deal is imminent!
-
Yea, I think that teams will keep their aces on a 5 day schedule and fill in starters around them. That'll probably be a lot of skipping the 5th starter or piggybacking the 4th and 5th starter with 3-4 innings each
-
It seems that whatever winds up happening, there is very close to 0 discernible positive passion for a season amongst those with a part in MLB. Even if it did come about, it is hard to imagine being of standard fantasy fun-levels. Seems like the young teams just get better, and probably just at the video games they have been playing. Cardinals were fun. They had a definitive team identity. I would think in a fifty game season, we would see a lot of non- traditional (Ray-like) methods.

if we only have a 50 game season or so, if you were a manager would you go to a 4-man rotation?
-
I have been reading Whitey Herzog's book, "Your Missing a Great Game." Even though it is 20 years old, it is probably even more relevant for what is going on today. Don't know why I never pick it up when it came out. It is one of the best baseball books I have read. If you can pick up a used copy on amazon, I think you would enjoy, especially if you grew up in the St Louis area during the 80s and 90s.
-
No surprise that they are in la-la land. Plenty of time to do something entertaining for the fans. I hope they can realize this, though it clearly has not registered yet. I am 60/40 they play. Bright-sider.

I was originally concerned that a second wave of coronavirus, either in the US at large or among the players, would derail their attempt at playing. But now it's looking a lot more concerning that money will derail it before they can even try to get on the field.
-
If hockey can pull it off I'm not sure why baseball couldn't, but they seem behind and perhaps less motivated.
-
what do you guys think? is there going to be baseball this year?
-
All of this time just makes me think what the Ray's are doing to outmaneuver the others.

I feel like this season is a wash. Why not do something to spark a little interest? The proposal I saw on MLB tonight had two leagues, 6 divisions, and for us Cardinal fans, their division would have Washington, Houston, NY Mets, and the Marlins. Tough sledding for sure. If it happens and anyone has a "Mets are Pondscum" T-shirt, let me know. I might be in the market.

Why would that be a bad thing? Honestly curious. I look forward to the universal DH, personally, and also like the idea of a merged league in general with 5 divisions based on geography.

I just hope MLB doesn't merge the leagues this year in a spring training format and force the DH on everyone.

Sorry to hear about particular challenges here. My thoughts are with everybody.
Sort of hard to prioritize within the anxiety. Don't be too hard on yourself if you can manage that. See you soon.

well I was wrong about the xfl. they caved as well.
-
which also means I'm putting Machado, Snell, Hader, and Jansen on the trading block--because I doubt there will be a season

I agreed with Alton (as to the flu) until a few days ago I had to start finding lawsuit-worthy data (no journalism) for a pending fight with an insurance carrier and a likely cancelled conference in May. That research (mostly CDC, NIH, Stanford) is horrifying. Nobody independent with initials after their name believes this infection rate will be like the flu, nor the death rate. Lowest estimates are 1/4 of population infected, 1% death rate. 20 times higher deaths than AIDS in '94.
-
my prediction is that the only league not to shut down will be the XFL.

Clarksville is actually living in Seattle and I just got blocked from my folks facility. I am on public trans, getting screened in facilities, 6 feet of spacing. It is a transformative and fluid thing. Thank goodness for soap and smart, brave people. Crazy season. Astros who?

I still plan on bar hopping for my birthday Saturday so I'm sort of with you that the average Joe is over blowing it, but these major events provide a high risk of a quick spread.
-
But Curly's (and my buddies) point is that too many people getting sick at the same time will overwhelm hospitals. Doesn't mean any of us would actually die if we got it, but a quick influx could impact the elderly in that way. And also people who need care for other illnesses.
-
I have to respectfully disagree. At the end of the day I don't see this having much more of a health impact than the flu.
-
My buddy who works at SLU hospital basically said the same thing as Curly
-
I’m a NP in an immediate care clinic in Portland, OR. The short answer is no. We do not have enough beds and PPE (masks, gowns) to deal with and care for a large outbreak in the US, therefor reducing exposure to keep the spread down can prevent a collapse of the system. Your Personal health, if you have no chronic illnesses and are <60 are not likely going to be affected much. It looks like an over reaction but it will save grandma and grandpa and prevent the collapse of our healthcare sy
-
is it just me, or does anyone else think the reaction to corona virus is way overblown and the way that MLB, NBA, NCAA, etc. have reacted is ridiculous?
-
Giants are turning Longoria into a Rover. In case Ruiz is too stationary.
