Lol, I did drive to Wisconsin once when visiting Chicago…but not what I was referring to.

More like what happens when you have to drive through Chicago to get to Wisconsin.

Changing my team name from La Phamilia to Wisconsin Death Trip
-
If we choose a date now, we can always change it later if Opening Day is pushed back, provided of course we give Title 42 plenty of notice.
-
Though I would say that's a mild preference and I am curious to try a slow draft one of these days. I just lean toward going with the system I know since I'll be sleep-deprived. But, I say that just as one vote of twelve, not as commish, so whatever the league prefers overall is fine.

My personal vote would be for a regular draft this year, but I'm fine with whatever the consensus is.

Like Title 42, I also work odd hours. My schedule is set in stone for Feb and March, but it gets cloudier beyond that. So in my case, I can give you plenty of specific dates for a March draft right now if you wanted, but I can't say with any certainty what my April availability will look like (at least not yet). But I recognise I am just one voice among 12, so I will go with whatever league consensus is.
-
Just to answer Fair Dinkum's question, the couch managers slow draft takes place over multiple days. You don't need to be logged in and checking all the time. That's what made it so convenient for me. But I also enjoy the excitement of the live auction, so I'm up for either.
-
Just my two cents, I've found in my experience commissioning my other league that varying time zones and work/family commitments make it very difficult to find dates that work for all, even when scheduling 2 months in advance. I vote that we choose a placeholder date for late March, as close as possible to Opening Day. If the lockout persists, we can reconsider in late Feb/early March. My fear is that if we wait to choose a date, people will fill openings in their calendar with new commitments.
-
I would prefer a regular auction as well. The Otto draft is one of my favourite days of the year. But the lockout is obviously something we have to reckon with, so I'm open to alternatives.
-
Here's "a basic run-down of the auction draft features" on the Couch Manager site:

I like the discussion. As commissioner, I'll bow to the consensus on dates and formats. I want to avoid the problems Title has outlined, and find times that also work for El Ocho, Fair Dinkum, and others. Let me know any other work/life situations that we can try to work around. While I've never done a slow draft, it's always a good time to learn, so no problems there.

I'd also prefer a normal auction over couch manager.

Thanks, Redlegs. I figure I will need to add about 20 players at auction. Is it possible to do a slow draft over multiple days? If we're only auctioning a maximum of 36 players at a time and I can't start till 3 PM, it seems unlikely we would be able to wrap it up within the 24 hour time frame.
-
Regarding Couch Managers, each auction takes place over the span of time, usually 24 hours. Most people have 2 or 3 nominations per owner, so there are 24 to 36 players being auctioned at a time. If there is a new high bidder, an auction can be extended by a set period of time, usually 4 to 8 hours. This prevents last minute sniping.

For reference, it's about 830 AM Wednesday for me now.
-
Can anyone explain how Couch Manager slow drafts work? I understand the concept, but my time zone is EST+16, so my availability starts from 3 PM EST. Anything starting earlier than that would make it difficult for me to participate.
-
I would be good with a couch managers slow draft. It would at least eliminate some potential scheduling issues. I did my first one last year and I liked the convenience of it. I could go either way. Also, if we did set a tentative date and people's work scheduling permits, we could reevaluate X number of days/weeks before the date and push it out; we don't have to wait until the day before.
-
Redlegs, I've been intrigued by slow drafts but would prefer a single day as close to the season as is feasible. That way we all have better information. In response to Title, until we try and identify dates and times, how would anyone know what sort of arrangements need to be made? The season is slated for March 31, so shouldn't we target the current best date for the league now? As more time passes, life will just keep happening for all of us, limiting what availability people may have.

We could do a slow draft on couch managers?
Dinger Derby on

So we set a date, people keep it open (I work nights & weekends & may have take the day off as those times are better for everyone else), the season gets delayed, we cancel it, I'm out a day of income.. then what? We set a new "tentative date"? Whenever the lockout ends there'll certainly be at least 2 but prob 3-4+ weeks for teams to assemble & have a short 'spring training'. Unless you mean finding a day/time of the week when we could draft regardless of which
-
In response to Title's comment, I would suggest planning at least a tentative date so that people keep a hopeful date open. I worry that if we wait until we know when Opening Day is, we won't have enough time to find a day that will work for everyone. If the tentative date arrives and the season start still isn't known, we can always try to push back.

FWIW my preference is to NOT schedule a draft until we know when the season will actually start, if that is at all possible. Drafting ahead of a truncated season two out of the past three years in a $100 keeper league is a tough pill to swallow.
-
My wife and I are having a baby in a few weeks, so I'm going to defer to Hell and Back to plan the draft since I'm probably not going to be checking in much in a few weeks, and my vote would be as late in March as possible! But I'm guessing either way I may be in and out a bit at best no matter when we draft, so I'll defer to the majority and try to keep a roster that's mostly full-ish in case I completely forget.

I'm based out of Sydney, but my work schedule is super flexible this year.
-
One of two of us commissioners will send out a (doodle) calendar to gather available times for the 12 of us. The way I have done it in the past is to provide morning, afternoon, evening slots for several weeks. I want to be sensitive for those outside EST, especially whoever is in the Netherlands (!!). Given the uncertainty of the start of the season, we'll play it by ear, but I'll suggest enough time to cover the waterfront. Hope this helps.

How does this league decide on a draft date & time? Or at least, how is it going to be planned this year with the added uncertainty of the season start date?

Welcome to the league, glad to have you Ismael! Awesome, we are back to a full 12 managers, and it looks like 9 have paid already (thanks!). Just a reminder that the renewal deadline is still January 31 even though the cutdown date was pushed back a couple weeks, so please get your dues paid sooner than later, thanks!

Hi, everyone. I just picked up La Phamilia. I’m looking forward to participating in this league; hopefully we get a full season.
My name’s Ismail and I’m on the Ottoneu Slack @Ismail
Thanks and good luck!
-
Kenley and Devon Williams could be acquired as well if I can save money and get 90% of their points.
Same goes for Gurriel.
-
Need to let the moves clear so I can look at my roster completely, but……
I’m gonna be around 38-42 player I’d like to keep with about $45-$75 I need to clear.
Either gonna move Ramirez/Morton together (not necessarily same deal) or Trout by himself.
Gonna be patient cause it’s a money saving move that ultimately id rather not have to make haha. Best offer wins.

All, in case you hadn’t noticed, the keeper deadline has been pushed back to Feb 15 due to the lockout (as shown in the tools page). It sounds like this could possibly be pushed back further depending on how long it drags on. Note, my understanding is that this does NOT change the renewal deadline however, so please still plan to renew by Jan 31.

All, I heard back from La Phamilia and it sounds like he hasn't had the time to give his team enough attention so he's going to give up his team. Hopefully we can find another great replacement manager quickly, and then it looks like everyone else has been online in the last day or two so I think we should be good to go. Looks like half the league has paid for 2022 already, so thanks. For the rest, don't forget to do so by Jan 31 (ideally well before then!).

Anyone heard from La Phamilia recently? That's the one last team that I haven't seen activity from in a while, though hopefully he's just got better things to do than to manage a fantasy baseball team in December, and will be back checking in soon!

Think you have a pretty good shot at making a run in 2023, and given you could have a decent pool of cash to play with at auction, that could even be feisty roster this year if guys like Witt come up early and start hot!

Thanks for the intro commish. Love ottoneu baseball and definitely all-in year round so reach out anytime for trades or just to judge everybody else's deals, talk baseball, whatever. It's all fun. My team name says it all. $100 donation this year, but next year I may sneak up on you!
