OK, we're at 9 out of 9 ok with Mar 20. In discussion with the last 3. BTW, silence is consent. We could potentially shift the time 2 hours on 3/20 from 3-7 EST to 5-9 EST. Let me know if anyone would *NOT* like to make the switch to the later time. If no changes or hitches, we'll finalize ASAP. Thanks for your help.

I appreciate everyone thinking of me, but being a baseball fan in Aus is really great. 7PM start times are 9AM here so I basically just stream games throughout the work day. Only trouble is setting lineups for Sunday day games.
-
I understand the complexity and do appreciate making it as easy on everyone as possible. I'll just put out there, I for one do not mind needing to make the middle of the night work. That only affects me, middle of the day for me impacts other people.

Just to help you understand my motives, El Ocho participated in last year's auction by staying up from ~1-5am CET. That's above and beyond the call, not to be replicated if at all possible. And I don't want to put Fair Dinkum in the same position. That's the ideal. Next, I will see if and what compromises are necessary. Stay tuned. It is kinda cool that our league is global...

With work and a family I’d rather be up in the middle of the night haha.

It's because El Ocho is on Central European time. A 8-11 PM draft on US Eastern time would be like 2-5 AM on CET.
-
I just picked the 20th since it's leading and then a day the following weekend too. Are we set on that time slot though? This seems to be in the middle of the day for most people. Is evening/ night in the US too difficult for most people?

Please complete the doodle calendar I've created (Mar 11 - May 31), using only the 3-7 pm EST time block. Thanks.

Looking at times during the day when we could accommodate everyone for our draft. Best time is 2-6 pm/3-7 pm EST, which translates to 8-12 pm/9-1am for El Ocho and 6-10 am/7-11 am for Fair Dinkum. Assuming some of us have 9-5 work days, this leaves weekends, again assuming all of us have off. I'll be setting up a doodle calendar soon (some family medical issues are taking precedence). I don't expect a perfect time for all, so I appreciate your flexibility. Stay tuned. Comments welcome.

Other than El Ocho (CET, +6 hrs difference) and Fair Dinkum (+16), what other non-EST time zones are represented in our league? (Making the auction draft doodle calendar and setting potential hour options per day) Thanks.

If anyone subscribes to MLB.tv, today is your last day to cancel before it auto-renews tomorrow. No sense paying full price when the league is still considering cancelling games.

You beat me to it. Yes, I want to create an availability calendar this weekend. Honestly though, the way the negotiations are going, I have no clue when opening day will be. I was debating whether I would wait until Monday to see if they continue to negotiate or just break it off.

Here's the vote as it stands: 6 for regular format (Fair, Curlin, El Ocho, LT, Title, Hell); 4 for slow (Wisc, Redlegs, Galapagos, Chaos); 2 for either (Club, Maybe). Calling for final vote. Let me know if anyone wants to change their vote. I'm ready to move on, ok?

I agree. There are what, 6-7 replacement owners this year? Letting Suzuki fall to one of the rebuilding teams with cap room via a blind auction wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for parity.

There is a potentially big bay out there (Suzuki) who won’t be in the pool until he signs. Not sure we want to leave him up to a blind auction.

I am in favour of scheduling a regular draft regardless of the lockout (also seeing we won the vote 6-4 ;-)). I am on CET, so I would not prefer a US weeknight. Week-late-afternoon would work for me.

What are the chances we could do a normal draft on a weeknight? I would vote for that.

I'm on the find a date and draft normally team. Had my first draft in another league last night. No need to wait far as I'm concerned.

Did I miss something? I didn’t think the discussion of a slow draft had anything to do with working around the lockout. It was just a preference of slow draft vs regular draft, and scheduling.
-
For what it's worth, my vote is that we pick a date now (and stick to it, per Section 42's comment). There's a limited number of time slots available for each date, and the longer we wait, the more people's work/social calendars will be filled and time slots will be claimed by other leagues. Better to choose a date now to ensure it works for everyone than wait and risk someone having a conflict and not being able to attend.

As I expressed to the Commish, I don't see the purpose of a slow draft. Either we decide to set a draft date regardless of if there's a labor agreement, or we wait. If we set a date, I'd rather us not cancel it and reschedule because there still isn't an agreement before the draft. If we set a date, I'd prefer to see us keep it regardless of the lockout. The only purpose for a slow draft is if we can't agree on a date, not to 'work-around' the lockout.
-
No poll to date. I used the views on the message board plus messages to those who did not express opinions to draw those conclusions. If the league wants a formal poll, no problem.

Time to decide about auction format, followed by date. I've polled the league; here's vote: 6-regular format, 4-slow format, 2-either. I'll give us a few days to discuss and re-vote, then we'll go with the majority. If no discussion after a day or so, we may just jump to dates.

Just a reminder to everyone that the deadline to make your offseason cuts and get your rosters legal is 11:59PM EST tomorrow, Feb 15th. As a reminder, no transactions are allowed afterwards until the draft concludes. Note, if a trade is accepted prior to that deadline it will still go through even if the processing time is after the deadline (but you will have to keep everyone involved through the draft). If anyone has any questions, let myself or Hell and Back know!

I can’t remember what the distinction between the two sections is, but currently there isn’t anything under “Expired” and I seem to remember all of our openings go into the “Available” section

Uh, I meant Hell and Back. Might have got my wires crossed because Redlegs just made cuts.
-
Thank you, Redlegs! I only ask because the Claim a Team tab on the dashboard has separate sections for "Available" and "Expired" teams, but I've never understood the difference.
-
Jeff, as for as I understand, there is no difference in replacing owners before or after the renewal deadline. I emailed Chaos the day after the renewal date, waited 5+ days with no response, so we have a team for someone to pick up. Abandoned teams go on the appropriately named "abandoned teams" list for prospective owners to peruse. Curlin has also posted a description of the team/league on this list. If you're a part of the Slack Ottoneu community, I invite you to talk it up! T

It was the industrial metal album (named after the book) by Static-X...recently listening to it again and makes for good music in my earbuds while I work
