I’m watching. Choo, Yordan, and Yuli give me a reason—of course I’d watch just to see Alvarez hit. I was hoping Correa would make an unexpected return.

There still exists an ongoing debate here who his the longest HR at Wrigley, Glenallen Hill or Dave Kingman. Glenallen is most fondly remembered for dotting blackjack McDowell's eye, while he was a bluejay
-
I almost played Chirinos today to soothe my withdrawal symptoms.
-
Who here is getting their meth fix (that's an anlogy) watching Tx vs Houston ?
-
Only mention Kingman in positive light please . He is an iconic figure here, as is Bill Madlock
-
That actually lines up with my images of Alonso (Dave Kingman, i.e., king kong masher) and Vladito (Roberto Clemente pure hitter).
-
Btw, since you didn’t watch, Alonso would have won the final based on total distance too. Whether that would have changed if Vladito hadn’t worn himself down in OT, who knows?

Avoiding OTs would help, but they already tried to keep that from being a bigger problem (the 1st OT was short; the later OTs were “how many HRs in 3 swings.”) Another problem was that Alonso never even had to play out his regular time (though I think he won 1 round with a HR at the end of regular time), due to going second in a H2H format. But TV likes that format. Agree they should find a fair approach, esp if winners are going to get 2 years pay.

Anyway, regardless of the issue of ties and overtimes, I think the whole concept of HR derby is to crown the guy who's the best masher. I think if one guy hits 3 500-ft HRs (Hamilton) and another guy hits 4 330-ft HRs (Morneau), the first guy is actually the best masher.
-
Didn't the Joc v. Vladito match-up go to something like triple overtime because they kept ending up tied based on # of HRs? I didn't watch, do I have that wrong? You'd probably never have a tie based on total distances, thus never have to send the guys to overtime to decide a round.

(Though there is less old man whining about things. Who’d have guessed Frenchy is almost a breath of fresh-)well, fresher—air?)

I don’t understand your comments. Whether or not they’re now swinging as absolutely hard as they possibly can every time now, it’s not clear how going for max distance would reduce the likelihood of expending too much energy in the early rounds. I’m open to the possibility, I just don’t understand it. And as to believing Statcast numbers, I must watch more Braves games than you do. I believe them (at least that they’re fairly calculated), but there’s a lot of complaining from the b

Probably that Cubs title too.
-
But I see your point, I'm convinced that MLB rigged every one of the Red Sox's World Series titles.
-
Bat, You think under the current rules guys are trying to hit wall-scrappers and not giving their all on every swing? And are you cynical, or what? MLB rigging the distance numbers (??), this is Josh Hamilton and MLB, not Lance Armstrong and the UCI. lol
-
I think there should be targets in the OF stands (and batters eye, etc) that would give hitters a bonus if they hit them. Scatter them around, give a bigger bonus for opposite field shots, deeper in the stands, off your own face on the video screen, etc. You can only get the bonus from each target 1 time per round.

In Keith Law's mid-season Top 50 prospects Adley checks in at #7, Vaughn at #12, and Witt Jr. at #21.... all are available.
-
I don’t see how NGB’s proposal would work to keep guys from wearing themselves out? More HRs would still be valuable. Especially if they’re trying to hit more, further, wouldn’t they risk wearing themselves out even more? Maybe it could be “total distance given 15 pitches”—but it would seem easier to just use “number of HRs given 15 pitches”, and there wouldn’t be the suspicion that mlb is rigging the numbers.

I think Brew was talking about Enoy Jimenez, a CWS prospect worth 1.67 p/g in rookie ball. Also unowned in ottoneu.

I own 4 teenagers in Capped FC.
-
My youngest player in this league is Bobby Witt Jr. at 19.
-
Elijah not owned in any Otto league. Enon not even in the Otto database, so not owned either.
-
Just getting back to civilization (well, if you call this civilized). NGB, love your HR derby idea; Brews mistaken move did seem a little odd, and his follow up statement sounds like an invitation to a beer bet.
-
I imagine so Bat, in some sort of dynasty league. I've heard of leagues where guys aren't taxed or subject to arbitration until they reach mlb status
-
Does anyone (anywhere, not just this league) roster those 2 guys Brew?

Five teams IS a lot, in fact warms my heart, but still quite a distance from "everyone" is prospecting that low.
-
Elijah Tatis is 17, Enon Jimenez is 18
-
Henry , I almost typed that too !! What's the number if you include high A ? When i started here AA was rare except for ngb
-
5 is a lot!
-
Any other 17-year-olds besides Marco Luciano? 2022 should be a good year.

Bat owns the only 16 year-old.

Brew, By my count only 5 teams currently own players who are playing at low A or lower.

Prospecting for everyone now extends into low A and even R

It doesnt make me angry anymore when i read a nice report about a lower minors prospect that I am not so familiar with , and he is rostered already. Now I just chuckle and say of course, in this case Oneill Cruz, who John has

Kahnle has been restored to Homebrew Crew's roster.

Does anyone have any objections to me returning Kahnle to fred's roster?

i didnt bid 8 $ on him just to cut him a minute later

wait a sec, I meant to add Kahnle and cut Ponce...help please

Unlike Gore, fellow high-end pitching prospect Forrest Whitley has failed to impress in 2019, Josh Norris of Baseball America observes. In addition to posting horrific numbers and battling injuries with the Astros’ Triple-A affiliate this season, Whitley has shown serious immaturity and underwhelming stuff on the mound, evaluators have told Norris. The 21-year-old did enter the season as the youngest player in the Pacific Coast League, though, Norris points out.

OTOH, I like having these all stars miced up on the field. The less we hear from Smoltz the better.

It’s too bad we didn’t get to pay any attention to Gore (or anyone else in the game) Sunday night, between the time spent with Junior, a 7-inning commercial for 1995 and a team no one really cared about then, let alone now, and Reynolds talking about himself (“but I made sure to say every hitter’s name, they should be happy with that”).

Gore's numbers all the more impressive because accomplished in the California League, probably the most hitter friendly league in all of pro baseball.
-
Bat has him for $3, I have him for $5. Will be interesting to see what the differential is by the time he appears in mlb.
-
I own him in Capped FC. Repeatedly tried to include him in deals w/ Bat in this league, but to no avail.
-
An under the radar 1$ add by Bat on 10/1/17
-
IMO, the next great ace 2020/21 , and for once not owned by NGB. Padres promoted LHP MacKenzie Gore to Double-A Amarillo.
To say this was earned is an understatement. Gore, 20, has been among the top performers in the minors this season regardless of level, posting a 1.02 ERA along with a 110/20 K/BB ratio over 79 1/3 innings at High-A Lake Elsinore.
-
Now that we have the technology, would total distance of HRs be a better metric for the HR Derby? At least lowers the likelihood of ties wearing a guy out in earlier rounds.
