You guys crack me up
-
Bah
-
A little surprised you haven't nominated Neuse yet... seems like your kind of guy.
-
Has he lasted longer than Robel yet?
-
Aquino didnt have the ngb pedigree of being written lavishly about since he was 15, so I got him for 1 buck...double woooo
-
I only need 30 hr to beat Hooks total myself, that's 1 a day and Aquino should be good for 8 to 10 more...woooo
-
Would that one team be me?
-
This is such an HR league. No one has ever won the league without being a Top-3 HR-hitting team... although Cotton could be the first team to do it. And only once has the winner not been a Top-2 HR-hitting team.
-
Today, Sanchez got the boys past the league's team HR record, set last season by Stats, with a month to go. Ahh the wonders of juiced baseballs. If mlb reacts and deflates the balls, the new record might stand as long as Gravy's 21,000 pts is going to stand.
-
All the Dodgers have to do is beat the Giants and the fans are cool with whatever else is going on.
-
Dodgers fans are pretty laid back anyway, as the arrive in the 3rd inning and depart in the 7th inning.
-
Will having May/Smith/Lux for next few years make Dodger fans happier than having a championship this year. I suppose it depends on what the May/Smith/Lux era produces.
-
Losing a trade to win a championship does seem to be out of favor in mlb. I wonder if the Dodgers, in particular, will live to regret rejecting that pardigm?
-
No mlb team was willing to move their top prospects for a rental like the Cubs did just 3 years ago with Chapman for Gleybor
-
In either league, I've seen (percieved) value of prospects and prospecting increase , which mirrors real baseball.
-
Last year NGB made it clear that he felt this league would force him to do that; his home-built less than $400 team couldnโt compete with a traditional $650+ team here, so heโd have to trade some of his guys for studs and give up the dream. Capped means no one should be able to do that, so maybe a built-from-scratch team can 3-peat. Maybe.

I could be wrong, but I think the Capped league may be less amenable to Trust the Process than this league. While some prospects will turn into A-list players and slot into a lineup, a lot of the value of prospects when you're actually trying to compete comes from trading them for studs and taking on salary. With a salary limit and more competitive teams, that will be a lot harder to do.

Tell that to the Marlins. The Miami Marlins.

Right. Tell that to every near-extinct Hawaiian forest bird species. Exploiting those empty niches worked great, until it didnโt.

Last day before purgatory for me.
-
Man, am I glad you all still don't get that it's the peak of competitive behavior!! The very best competitors in nature are the ones who find and exploit an empty niche.
-
If a team is absolutely immune to any of the incentives designed to foster competitive behavior theyโd probably be in a pretty good spot to accumulate prospects. In fact Capped is probably the place to go for your original strategy and build the team you can keep together for 3+ years, if you (and we) have the patience for it.

So yesterday was the first time I'd looked at the mlb pipeline site in forever (when I went there to lift May and Sanchez quotes). According to the current rankings there, in the Capped FC league I own 8 of the top 11 prospects. I thought we were past the days when one team could corner the market on prospects to that extent (i.e., 70+% share)? Still not quite up to my past peak of owning 16 of top 19, as I'm only up to 13 of top 20.
-
I see him as another Kyle Wright.
-
Ngb , those things you read are not the gospel. In 2014 , degrom was said to be a serviceable 5th sp or swingman. I see May as another Jerred Weaver .
-
I like to enjoy watching my players, like Tatis who dazzled on both sides of the ball. Soto is one of those guys, and in same tier to me. Tatis for Soto would be a fair trade for either party, for example.
-
Only for someone in same tier. But more than likely no I would not
-
Fred would you trade eloy Jimenez if you were me?
-
Those are the same scouts who slapped a Kershaw comp on Gore before he'd thrown his first professional pitch.
-
The repeated Pedro comps, from scouts in multiple mlb organizations, comes from Baseball America.
-
Bat, Quotes from current profiles posted on mlb.com... just the easiest place to lift something quickly... I don't actually put THAT much stock in the mlb.com team. I've also found BP to have a less than stellar record on prospects. The source I have found, over and over, to nail it with prospects, currently has Sixto at #27 and May at #93. Since that makes them both Top-100, I suppose they're in the same universe, but not the same Zip Code.
-
Hey NGB, whatโs the date on those scouting reports? Because while thatโs the upside, guys who reach it donโt usually have minor league careers like Sixto has had. And while weโre talking about scouting reports, I see the fangraphs guys bumped Sixto down a little this summer, below May actually.

Brew, I really hope you don't think you're going to be able to get by with inexperienced potential No. 3 starters in 2020 and still be a contender.
-
May has great hair, Sixto has scouts calling him Pedro Martinez.
-
Scouting report on May: "He also stands out for his mound presence and feel for pitching, which enhance his chances of becoming a No. 3 starter." Compare to: "Sanchez has perhaps the best combination of electric stuff and command of any pitcher in the Minor Leagues."
-
Well, May is in the universe of pitchers with still-healthy shoulders, which Sixto left long ago. Maybe thereโs some sort of wormhole that lets him back in. He might win on upside, but it seems reasonable enough to prefer May.

Dustin May = John Gant
-
You must be pretty damn drunk. Not even in the same universe.
-
Dustin May > Sixto
-
Hombres, I tried to put together a trade starting with Sixto, but I just have a tough time banking on a 21 year old AA pitcher whoโs probably at least a year away from a permanent gig in the bigs (assuming he doesnโt need TJ sometime in there). But if you want to make a couple of offers Iโll consider them. Iโll seriously consider serious offers.
-
NGB, iโm Only up to your 10:35 comment, so more will likely come, but I couldnโt let your comment go without responding immediately: you are completely wrong with your take. I would have done that trade no matter who Soto played for with the possible exception of the Yankees and Braves, and maybe even with them.
-
Castellrnos 2nd 2 run hr , he is jd drew all over again wooooo
-
Brew, I'll take that as a "Yes", meaning that there is a circumstance under which you wouldn't never trade Soto! Enjoy the beach and the beer.
-
Cubs are up 2 to 0 on Castellenos ( jd drew thed 2nd ) 2 run HR
-
Ngb, I'm on the beach drinking 11% ABV beer . None of your negative quips are going to irritate me today.
-
Quite a return on the $5 you would have had to spend to, by chance, acquire that card.
-
Totally unrelated item... one of those signed Acuna insert baseball cards from last year's Bowman set, just sold for $47,356... yes, a card that is all of 1-yr old!!
-
Brew, Yes or No, would you trade Soto for a championship? We know what the Cubs would do. The Cubs understand that losing a trade to win a championship is a trade-off with no regrets.
-
Mikey stepped up and paid to get what he wanted
-
Charles also got a great SP back, was good trade for both, all I am saying is I'd never trade soto
