I have 3 guesses. First a marginal but streamable SP who might get picked up a couple extra times every September so teams can get to 1500 IP, so...Wade Miley. Or a hot prospect back when ottoneu started but who took awhile to be good, so...Javier Baez. Or similar, but still waiting...Profar.

Great Ottoneu trivia from Niv via slack - what player in the history of Ottoneu has been auctioned the most in-season, across all leagues?
-
I vote for no arbitration in both leagues, and I support the 50% side pot proposal, but am fine with 100% or any other percentage people feel strongly about.
-
I am for no arbitation this year
-
I vote arbing as usual, no matter how many or few games are played (even zero). I also propose we only play for 50% of the side pot, and it only counts if they play 50+ games.
-
I don’t believe they actually get the 60-game season in without shutting it back down, but if they do, I’d be for arbing as usual, but not a big deal if the majority is against that, which seems to be the case
-
During the 2020 season, players will be able to gain eligibility as normal - 10 games played or 5 games started at a position. However, players will not lose position eligibility over the course of this season. Going into the 2021 season, position eligibility will be based on 2020 eligibility and 2019 eligibility.
-
I think rolling the side pot over makes a lot of sense. Will make 2021 that much more exciting. I can go either way on arbitration. There is no way to stop inflation and I would be against that anyway. Regarding arbitration the one way to stop it is for no team to do it. They it doesn't happen.
-
Can we get 2 $ /1$ tax suspended too while we are at it ?
-
I agree with Patrick; I don’t have faith in them getting a complete unblemished 60-game season in.
-
I agree with Mikey, my preference would be to roll the side pot to next year and no arb this offseason. I also don’t feel particularly strongly about it. If I really thought there will be a 60-game season I might even say let’s go ahead and treat it like a normal year.

Agreed. I think that side pots and arb should be bundled together.
-
re Riley, never underestimate the Braves love of Nick Markakis. He seems certain to have the strong side of a platoon at DH. Not a big boost for Riley unless he really dominates summer camp. re Schwarber, will he really get many additional PAs? Though it sounds like good news for Cub fans who won’t have to watch him field. (I kid—I know he’s said to be improved in the OF: isn’t Puig a usable OF too?)

Puig market just incresaed too (for him to sign with NL team and not Korea)
-
man are autin riley, and schwarber owners happy
-
I would prefer we bundle side pots and arbitration. Either this season is meaningless - roll side pots + no arbitration, or we proceed as if this is a normal season - pay side pots and arbitrate.
-
I agree on rolling side pots over, but not strongly enough to argue if others object. Thanks for the link, it answered my biggest question and I like COVID players being eligible for the 60-day IR. I’d vote against arbitration next offseason, but again, am willing to go along with the crowd.
-
I’d roll side pots over to next year (though I like my chances better in a short 2020—less likely to have too many injuries for Berti to cover them all, and none of my SPs usually go more than 4 or 5 innings anyway). Maybe we should talk about conditions when we’d agree not to arb. For the rest, whatever Niv decides. And let’s raise a glass to mark the passing of the era when pitchers batted in MLB games. I won’t miss it much.

Niv acts like COVID will be like a 60 day DL and not take a roster spot. Here are some good pieces of info from him: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/coronavirus-update-pt-3-short-season-details/7580
-
I think we have to handle infections as any other injury. What else could we do? As far as the side pot goes, we need to decide up front whether it gets paid out according to the standings on the final day of the season, 60 games or 1 game, or rolled to next year. I could go either way.
-
What are people thinking about the coming 60-game season and how we should handle it? Business as usual and handle COVID infections as any other kind of injury? Same with the capped league with the expanded pot going to the winner of a shortened season? I think I’m fine with whatever is decided (the Strat-O-Matic league has scratched my baseball itch), but think we should consider how to handle things like a potential mid-season end due to increased infections, etc.

Watching 1997 WS game 7. Did any one else know that it was Darren Daulton's (age 35) last big league game? And he was the Marlins 1B AND cleanup hitter? AND hit a triple?! (Manny botched it in right but still)
-
In the event that there is no baseball , we should all gentleman's agreement to not arb each other . I don't know what can be done about 2$/1$ tax
-
I usually avoid the 86 Mets, but this reminiscing about McDowell has been fun. He also outhit his babip against, and even played a couple innings in the OF. But looking at him led me to Mark Eichhorn—what a season he had! (He did it in a way that looks more modern in the box scores, but not so much if you watch him pitch.) if that’s not the best RP season in history, it’s at least the greatest forgotten (by me anyway) RP season.

I barely remember him. Was he the other Ozzie Virgil’s son? (I don’t remember the elder at all.)

I bet Bat remembers Ozzie Virgil. Pretty average defensively , with poor arm , but had mistake power

In 80s what won championships was having all around good players ,like von Hayes,Andy van Slyke , bill doran. OBA and fielding were huge . I won with Ozzie Virgil as my catcher even
-
with all the balls in play expalins why guys like alfredo griffin were in such high demand, up the middle was all about fielding , guys like devon white in CF just had to hit .250 to have a starting job
-
i played strato during those years , mark grant on SD was also an only relief with over 100 innings
-
Holy crap, that’s nuts. 128 innings all in relief, 14 wins and a 3.22/1.16 era/whip somehow despite only 65Ks. An effective 4.6K/9 out of the pen! Soooo many balls in play.

Actually I was at that game with Kelly, Dan, and Nancy. Just beyond first base about 10 rows from the field. After the first strikeout we stood most of the rest of the game. Tonight I ended up going right into game five. Not looking good; down 3-0 in the fourth.

Hope that ended in t8me to watch Stras’s debut on mlb network.

This evening I watched the Nats come from behind to stave off elimination by the Dodgers and send the series back to LA for a decisive game five.
-
I’d pay for that
-
I guess it could be done, but it would be a lot of work. Much easier if Niv just did it for us.

I wish there had been some way to play fantasy off of those simulated season stats.

I like the B-R/OOTP simulation better (at least so far). Current standings: https://www.baseball-reference.com/sim/leagues/MLB/2020.shtml

I like how on the Strat-O-Matic 2020 standings they give the first place teams’ magic number. The Nats magic number is down to 140! I’ve actually gotten into the routine of looking at the box scores every morning.

Damn you Jose Tabata. He leaned into that pitch. I think the unwritten rules allow Max to use Josh Harrison to demonstrate what a hit-by-pitch really looks like.

You have a higher pain threshold than me, Brew; I can’t watch that show. Here, Nats are up 3-0 in the 6th, and Max is still perfect.

Tough choices for a day with no real baseball: Maddux-Hershiser ‘95 World Series game 1 on mlb network against Scherzer’s first no-no on mlb tv. I’m going with Max—even with Bob and FP calling the game it looks like modern baseball, so it’s easier to pretend. Maybe this time he gets the perfecto?
