Unbalanced? SPH deserves 100% credit for building his team. Also, I was commenting on Ridic.

Texas I usually agree with u I dont on this. A six year member should know enough to make cuts in time. I think it is a hell of a way to treat the rest of the league that made the cuts in time. I think FB made a good point. The teams we took over were terrible and all we are looking for is a fair venue to get these clubs back on track. SPH didn't gain that level of talent on our watch. This league is unbalanced and I can see how it got this way.
-
Just let Ridic cut his guys. At a glance, he was cutting just enough to get under the cap ($382)- he likes his current players. If we hit him with the Niv penalty; he STILL wouldn't be under his cap and would have to cut roughly $50 in additional players just to get to where he would be if his cuts came in on time. In ADDITION, he would have to draft more players to fill the vacancies with less money / player. Hell of a way to treat a 6th year member of a league if you ask me...

Yeah, SPH's league page shows he was on just a week ago. Way too early to write him off.

Letβs give SPH some time to get back to us before we write him off. If we want to be fair to ridiculous then we should just let him cut the guys he posted with no penalty, which I am also fine with.
-
If we are going to have Rid get under the cap any thoughts on removing a (One) player to make SPH get under the cap with removing his highest priced player. I agree with the current rule that the team should be given a round of cuts by the new owner. Just thinking we should get the team legal before turning it over. Looking at the player it would be Betts. Since this was my idea I will not bid on him during the draft if this goes thu. Dont think its fair to rid. Just a thought tho.
-
I agree with Final Boss - anyone taking over the team that is not the current owner of SPH should get 1 free round of cuts to get under the cap and draft legal.
-
Hey Coco - I don't think there should be a cut penalty for the new owner of SPH. Rule Vi states, "i. If a team changes ownership, the new owner is given the opportunity to make one round of penalty-free cuts."
-

For SPH, if I hear from him and he is coming back, we can implement a similar penalty. If he is not coming back, I think it is most fair to let someone take over this roster as is, but have to cut players in accordance with the post-deadline cut penalty. This would not impact the integrity of the league, but would also provide a pretty significant handicap to whomever takes over this roster (still should be good enough to win though).
-
So, in an effort to please all parties (i.e. the 'why are there rules if we don't follow them' and the 'it was only 37 minutes after the deadline' camps), I think it is fair to allow Ridic to cut his two highest priced players without penalty, and then after that the Official Niv Rules apply. So Murphy and Kela are cut penalty free, and after that it is up to him to make his roster legal for the draft. I will actively nominate Ridic refugees during the draft to alleviate his burden.
-
Sorry to hijack the discussion regarding SPH but, back to Ridiculous, I think there may have been some misinterpretation. I propose that we mostly follow Niv's rule as outlined in the thread whereby the team is frozen out of the auction if the roster is not legal. Ridic's cap hits are removed as players are auctioned. At first glance, this did not seem like that severe of a punishment, however, after thinking about it further, it does seem really debilitating.
-
Afraud its the same rule it is just a little more defined in the thread. Commissioner discretion should always come into play in the league. My point is should it come into play here and give a team a pass because he decided not to make his cuts before he went bowling. I will back off the issue because I think I am putting the Commish in a bad spot. I do ask tho that we pass something to prevent this from happening again.

To be clear, this is the rule:
"Teams that are not under roster limits as defined in VII. c. are not allowed to participate in the Auction Draft
ii. Commissioners have the right to remove players from teams that are over limits after the keeper deadline in order to allow them to paricipate in the Auction Draft. Commissioners should work with the other owners in the league and use their best discretion in making these types of roster moves."

Just thought it was a good idea. The players would have to be voted on by everyone. I thought it would give u a break because it looks like the commish is going ahead with the cut rule. It indicates all those players u just listed as cut go into the player pool at that salary and u dont get relief til they are taken. U dont draft. Figured this was a way to lesson the impact on u if the commish upholds the ottoneu rule.
-
So what players are to be plucked from his roster? And who would determine that? Seems odd to me. I think we will hear from him at some point, but if not, I think the team should stay exactly the same and a lucky new owner will assume a bad ass squad. He wouldnt be able to keep that team together
-
I have to agree with Texas. I plan on being the best and in order to do that I hope SPH comes back because I want to take my title. In the event he doesn't I like FB's idea of maybe taking 4 players off that team and put them in the player pool. If we do that I say we open up cuts for one day due to the fact the player pool has changed.. That gives Rid the opportunity to get under. Levels the playing field for everyone. Advise the new owner of what took place before he claims the team.
-
Regardless- it would be too late to do something now since cuts have been made.

I actually wonder if NOT doing something like this would reflect badly on the integrity of the league. Teams like you, Felix, Zod and myself took over really bad teams and have been working hard to try turn them into contenders. Would it be good for the league to have a new manager start off as the overwhelming favorite before making a move? Itβs all just hypothetical anyway, as SPH will be back momentarily just as soon as he gets his passport back from the swampy depths of the Amazon!
-
Curious why you think the idea would reflect poorly on the integrity of the league? I'm not in anyway suggesting we recruit a new manager for that team and then strip him of players. I'm saying we would add some players to the pool from that roster before we abandon the team. Potential managers would see exactly the team they will take over and of course they will be allowed to make a free round of cuts before the draft.
-
To the previous owner's credit, almost every stud on that team was originally drafted by the previous owner. So as much as this works against me, I'd actually be pretty strongly against taking any number of players from SPH before finding a new owner. First it doesn't really reflect well on the league from an integrity standpoint. Also, a new owner will already have to make some cuts, and at the end of this season that team will have to break apart as long as we all participate in arbitration.
-
I still have faith (s)he will show up. Maybe he is caught in the Amazon without a passport. But that is an interesting idea...

In all seriousness, SPH's team is so badass. If we do decide to find a new owner to take it over, should we break it up a little first? SPH earned that roster - easily the most dominant in the league. But should a new owner inherit that full roster? Maybe we throw a few pieces back in the auction pool (but still keep it as an attractive team somebody would want to pick up)? Just throwing it out there.
-
We should auction SPHβs team on eBay and split the profits 11 ways :)

Can I abandon my team and take over SPH?

Thanks Coco. I would have cut the following players:
D. Murphy $24
Gregorius $8
Davidson $4
Kela $14
Velasquez $10
Loaisiga $10
Hudson $7
Buchholz $6
Romo $3

Sorry, I missed the discussion of the long standing 'what to do when someone forgets to cut players' rule that was invented all the way back on January 31. Since we adhere to all of the other standard Ottoneu rules, it makes sense to adhere to this one as well. It does not seem to be too much of a penalty anyway. Also for what it is worth this is the first time someone has missed the cut deadline.
-
I think u are in very dangerous ground by overriding the rule and issuing your version of punishment because a guy went bowling and didnβt make his cuts in time when almost everyone else did.
-
I am new to this league but a rule clearly exist concerning rid situation. The rule is posted by Niv and is listed in the messages. I understand and respect that u as comish can override the rule but the idea about the trade block was an opinion from another owner and not a rule.
-
Last message - if these weekend options cannot get a consensus, then I would propose a Thursday night at 10PM EST - this would be 4PM on Friday for Felix and 7PM for west coasters and 4AM for me - so everyone should not be at work

Here is a link to sign up for availability for draft dates. Given that we have people across the world, please think about how you can do this on a Friday or Saturday to avoid having people participating during working hours.

Finally on SPH, clearly something has happened to this guy. I have sent him a message and will let you know when I hear back.

his players on time. That said, he also could have posted who he was going to cut. So I appreciate both sides here. I agree with the proposal 'cutting everyone on the trade block until roster is legal', though I would also like to know who Ridic was planning to cut in the first place. Can you either post your proposed cuts or send them to me in a message and we can see how different they are from the trade block proposal and go from there?
-
I like that I was written out of the league! Sorry, somehow my email settings got changed and I was not being notified of all of the ongoing discussions here! Seems like there is a lot to deal with. Zod, I appreciate your concerns about gaining an unfair advantage, but this league has generally been democratic and forgiving about very slight hiccups in missed deadlines etc. Given that Ridic was on here 37 minutes after the cut deadline, I don't think he had any malicious intent in not cutting
-
New draft room lets u import your watch list. Make things easier for u guys to finish second. If SPH has become roadkill (lets hope not) this league is wide open for a general to take over. Let the revolution begin!!!!!!!That would be first place and not the league, JD.

Just a heads up it seems that most leagues have already set their draft dates and there are limits to how many leagues can occupy each time slot. I think we should find a time ASAP before some of the better options go away.

He has gone dark in his other league as well. Not trying to speak for Coco but I think all of us would want to find out what was going on before a decision is made. If u want my vote for Comish if Coco is out I would give it to Texas. He is a respected voice of reason in this league..Hit it hard JD as u will soon have your fantasy team destroyed by General "Weak Ass" Zod.
-
JD hitting the Super Bowl Celebrations early....Love it. Just to be clear the last thing I need or want is to run another league. The leagues I do run are run by the 12-15 teams in them. Never one person. The commish has to have discretion for the rules but if a questionable situation arrives in which teams have a difference of opinion it is put to a vote. In this case, I think Coco is waiting to talk to Odious before a decision. Odious has gone dark and I hope everything is OK.
-
nvm darth gator isnt you? lol
-
lol ur not gonna be the commissioner you just arrived..
-
Guys no tension with me just trying to keep it real. I got nothing against Rid i actually like the weak ass stuff. Had me cracking up. Love the Darth Gator stuff by fb. The end of the day I dont want to hurt anyone, but the league has to have some structure. Something is up with SPH. Something happened or he is running dark after Coco possible demise. I think we all take a minute to respect the late Coco and look forward to a new era of Darth Gator.
