It is kind of a different way of drafting and in my opinion is not as fun as the traditional auction; however, it is certainly 100x more convenient and the only way I think we can get the draft done prior to the season starting. My vote is to just stick with the current draft date and format, but if not having the first two days of stats is a real dealbreaker for anyone we can consider the slow draft.
-
One other option is a "slow draft". SPH and I just finished one in a different league. If you are not familiar, each team nominates 3 players at a time (so you have 36 players being auctioned off at a given moment). Each person is then available to bid on for 24 hours. After you get inside of 8 hours for a particular player, any time the highest bid is eclipsed the timer resets to 8 hours (so one player could be auctioned for 30+ hours)
-
I heard back from Niv - retroactive rosters are not possible. So if we do the draft on the 27th, we won't have stats for the first two days of the season.
-
Good points all around. I assumed there was some way to retroactively assign rosters for a given day or I could email HQ and have it done. If that’s not possible then yeah I don’t see a path forward other than not counting the stats for the first two games. Ill email Niv and see what is feasible
-
option :)
-
Just thinking this through. Awarding points might be more complicated than it sounds - e.g. are you also going to be able to count all IP and Games used against their respective annual caps? If not, then that would give a significant unfair advantage to teams that have more SPs employed that day(s) against teams with fewer SPs going those day(s). As long as IPs and Gs used count just as the points would, I am fine with using "best possible", otherwise I think doing nothing is the only
-
That said, I am OK with all 3 options as well.

Is it easy to compile the best possible for each team? What qualifies as best for a pitcher? Agh, sorry to complicate...

I agree with the best possible, it allows for more manager flexibility, if we're awarding points. But if you don't want to deal with that, Coco, I really don't have a problem with any of the 3 options.
-
Yeah, in a scenario where points are awarded, I think "best possible" is preferable/less discriminating. For example, I dont think TS would be happy with his Yordan getting benched bc of his $5 salary.
-
I'm happy to do nothing (probably easier for me) and doesn't bother me, but it does seem like unfair discrimination against SP 1/2 in missing a start. Not an ideal situation. If we do have to award points - do you think the retrospective "best possible" lineup is a better solution than the "highest dollar" lineup?
-
A couple concerns with this. 1) It sounds like a major pain to administer and 2) The most expensive players are not necessarily the best players, or at least the best for a given day. I think it creates more problems than it solves. Why not simply do nothing? The system won’t award any points until after the draft and it’ll be easy for all to make up the GP/IP missed.
-
To be clear, there were three options I could think of 1) highest-salaried valid roster (adjusted to make sure that all of your players are starting) 2) highest scoring roster for each day 3) no points for either day. I was suggesting option 1 of these 3
-
Not that I have any healthy pitchers left, but I favor option 1 over 2.
-
The other two options are 1) each team gets the highest-possible scoring roster from Thursday and Friday or 2) there are no points awarded on either day. I think option 2 unfairly discriminates against #1 and #2 starters as they are losing a start. If anyone has strong objections to the proposal in the previous comment, please let me know. Otherwise we will go with that.
-
These are good questions regarding the start of the season, and I believe that we had to deal with them in the past when there were games in Australia / Asia at the start of the season. I guess the issue here is that there will have been 30 games by the time we have rosters instead of like 2 or 3. My sense is that the most fair way to do this is that every team automatically starts the highest-salary legal roster of people that started each game on Thursday and Friday.

I can make the 27th work.

If they just used our Saturday lineup and added the past two days stats retroactively for those saturdays players only that would be fine, but then my question becomes if I have a bad opening day start could I just bench him on Saturday and avoid the past start .. 27th works for me however it happens .. and what about Gaussian, he’s back and confirmed ?

Not ideal but I'm open to it for solidarity sake. How will the point accumulation work, are we just going to miss those points or will there be points added retroactively?
-
So I heard back from J&D that he can do the 27th for the draft. I know this is after the season starts but seems to be the only day that works for everyone. Any complaints?
-
OK - thanks everyone for participating - J&D - it looks like you only have one day (21) that works for you - how flexible are you on the other days (20, 27, 28) - everyone else seems like they can participate on those days and Ridiculous cannot do the 21st.
-
OK - can you please populate the survey with dates that work for you?
-
I am out of town on March 20-21. It will be very difficult for me to pull off a draft that weekend. Sorry for shaking things up, I know how hard it is to get everyone on the same page

Thanks FB. OK - we have 8/8 people who say they can do the draft on March 20 or 21. Don't have responses from Ridic, Sheriff, and J&D. Making an executive decision that we are doing the draft on the 20th at 10:30 PM EST. If this is not workable for anyone please let me know sooner rather than later. Looking forward to the draft!
-
Thanks for setting up Coco. Noticed opening day is early - 3/26 - and all teams will play that day, so would be ideal to pick a date before the season starts!

Here is a link to a poll with draft date options. We will start at 10-10:30 PM EST on either the Friday or Saturday night that has full participation. Looking forward to it!

Hopefully Gaus gets back to us soon. I'm good with allowing late cuts for Ben if that helps keep him on board. And if Germany can do 4AM I can certainly do 10PM. Cheers.

Thank you commish!! I agree with you I can always do 11 pm and then you can do 5. Probably going to have to find another member ? Looking forward to a great year! I’m stoked!!

2) we need to set a draft date - I’m just going to assume it will be a weekend night (est) in March - to try and simplify the poll I am only offering 1 time slot - 10pm est / 7pst / 4am Germany/ 2 pm Australia - I think that’s the most accommodating for everyone. Can do it on a Friday or Saturday night
-
So - 1) Gaussian - you there? Can give you til the end of today to finish your cuts (hopefully this does not cause a childish revolt like last year). If not, I’ll mark abandoned and see if we can find a new owner
