Weekend of the 18th or 25th for a draft? That's our usual timeframe, right?
-
Any thoughts on draft dates or a Doodle? It's a huge pain in the a** trying to get close to 12 people committed to the same time frame and most of my other leagues have already nailed down a date.
-
One more update to share. 11 of our 12 managers have already re-upped for 2023 and I expect the 12th to come in by tomorrow's deadline. Excited to have everyone back and to see all the engagement this offseason. Go JaBO!

Was hoping Judge would be on the move this offseason, just not this one!
-
So Correa and Boras couldn't tolerate a 2nd opinion, and heads to the Mets to play 3B instead of SS for the next 10+ years.
-
Alright, thanks guys. We'll keep it at $75 for 2023 and maybe revisit an increase next time. Best to keep the league intact and hey, now we all have an extra $25 for holiday shopping. I should probably send mine to Chaim Bloom so he actually signs somebody. Santa has put coal in my stocking.. Bogaerts gone + the Yanks resigning Judge and adding Rodon. BRUTAL.

I would rather play for the $100, but like Jeets I do not have a crazy strong preference. So, $75 is fine too. This league is too active and fun for me to want to leave regardless of price.

For all intent and purposes, $75 is "Goldilocks".

I did not have a strong preference, so I’d be totally fine leaving it at $75.

However, I'm unfortunately torn and would love to consider some of your thoughts. Despite the lopsided vote, one manager reached out to me directly (out of respect will keep the identify of the manager private) indicating he would leave the league if we made the change. I've always taken my role as commissioner here as basically not much more than administering the will of the league. What say you JaBO?

Thanks voting all! We heard from nearly the entire league. 10 votes with only 1 manager voting against WTF's proposition of taking the league from the $75 tier to $100. With a result like that I'd normally say that's a slam dunk green light.

I dont want to lose anybody here to the change. If it's a dealbreaker for the 1 NO voter please let me know, either on this message board or privately. Also, if any of you that haven't voted have an issue with it, please let me know ASAP. I'll give everybody another couple of weeks to respond before making a change since not everybody is as active during the offseason. Cheers

Exactly. 1st place would go from $400 to $600; 2nd place goes from $150 to $200 and 3rd place from $75 to $100. Also thanks for the reminder to check in on the vote. Looks like we have 7 YES votes to 1 NO vote.

Can someone remind me the benefits of $100 over $75? Is it just Top 3 prize money?

Pitch to anyone thinking of taking on a new team, check the teams available for claim in Infield Fly Rule. We had a few teams leave for this year, but I’ve been in the league for at least 5 years (and I’m now co-commissioner) and the teams still there are all good. There’s some pretty good rosters available, especially El Ocho, who I think had the best roster in the league and finished second because he left some game unplayed. Or there are crap rosters if you want a challenge 😆

Im fine with it WTF. Will present it to the league for a vote. Aside from a majority to make the change we should be sensitive to any "NO" votes. If it presents a real problem for anybody please feel free to direct message me if you prefer to keep your thoughts anonymous to the league. We have a great group here and don't want a proposed change to disrupt that!

Any interest in inflating this to a $100 league.
-
I thought everyone already had enough inflation in their real lives so I didn't want to pile on here. Actually thought arb deadline was Dec 15 for some reason. Early Christmas gift for everyone. Sorry for missing it. Won't miss my cut deadline, putting that reminder in my calendar now.
-
Great to see all the arbitration activity. Looks like everybody already participated other than Stranglers. Scranton you still have a couple hours to get those dollars in! See you all on the other side and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Appreciate that WTF. Enjoy your offseason as well and I may come to you for some of that pitching!
-
None of the moves were illegal. Your roster was illegal. I've been in 5 leagues last 2 years and 3 of them have had the commish with an illegal roster after season ended. Had to quit one after being top 3 last year because the commish played games. Sorry to lump you in with that shit. Don't want to have to find another league. My standards are too high for commissioners so I'll work on that. Have a great off-season everyone. I'm going to need to move some pitching when we get to trade season.
-
I absolutely did not make any illegal moves. No idea what you're talking about. And I must have missed the polite part of, "Had same shit happen last year in another league." What kind of "shit" did I pull? Somebody nominated players and I bid on them with cash well within my budget.
-
Dude, get off it. You won the league. You made an illegal move and it came like 20 minutes before the season ended. People asked you to make the corresponding cuts. No one said you should be penalized or that you were trying to get away with something or anything. They just asked you, politely, to make the necessary cuts. I would just be enjoying my win rather than getting all pussyaching about nothing, but that's just me

WTF your comments less than 24 hours apart are ridiculous. Did you think I was trying to get away with my $6 Michael Lorenzen and my $9 ERod? Lol

Wow. No warm and fuzzies happening around here. Sometimes it pays to give people that have never even bent the rules over many years the benefit of the doubt. The fact is nobody would have been able to immediately make cuts on those last two adds. The system was locked Wednesday night. Why? I don't know, but I do know this was the case because I logged in for the sole purpose of making those cuts.
-
Was talking about Casas. Seems like Commish should have a legal roster IMO.

CC when you going to make your Roster legal?
-
That seems like the right thing to do to me. Had same shit happen last year in another league.
-
Congrats to the money teams. Point of order: those last two pickups with no cuts were illegal according to our rules, yes? My understanding is that we don’t allow teams to grab players at the end of the year and have an illegal roster, right? If so, there should have been two cuts to correspond with the Carlson and Frelick pickups

Well, at least in recent years. Of course when Ottoneu was still early days there were far fewer teams!
-
JaBO has a chance to do something today that may have never been done before in Ottoneu. There are well over 1,500 teams playing this format and we currently have 3 ranked in the top 50 global leaderboards. Go JaBO and best of luck WTF and TDITD!

Elly & Grissom….big bucks being spent lately.

CBs was not to be denied!

The slider is very effective against batters with a high leg-kick. Changeups are great against hitters with a high launch angle. Now pitch selection/calling is even more random, you can get the best hitter out by throwing 7 straight sliders. Albeit it isn't efficient for pitch counts, but it drastically reduces the best opposing hitter.
-
I love MLB because of the randomness, and the elite skills required to even play in a bench-role. The book isn't written on Baseball yet like Chess, Football, and basketball. Still new moves and strategies have been discovered in recent history that has really given a lot of advantages to pitchers instead of the hitters.
-
Bar none, MLB pitching and the game itself, pitchers have to have some advantage. Free of PED, amphetamines, and sunscreen, Manfred "unjuiced" the ball or whatever god knows what modification. For the sake of argument, let's assume the ball isn't juiced, and hitters are suffering the hangovers of steroid-era built stadiums; pitchers plus data-back defensive shifts have too much of an advantage.
-
Classic solution is to lower the mound a bit, but that can drastically affect pitchers who are not 6'4".
If the average throwing velocity reaches 95mph, may have to move the mound back beyond the 60'6" mark. History has proven these tweaks brought some balance to the game.
-
Not sure there’s a good solution to “the pitchers are too good” unless you Harrison Bergeron the fuck out of them

That’s…a lot of change you’re proposing there. I’m not sure I agree with the premise that the shift is causing hitters to hunt home runs. The increase in TTO preceded widespread use of the shift

thought i made the cutoff *afic = aficionados. I didn't have text reserves for "real baseball fans"...
-
I grow weary of Manfred tinkering with the ball to produce game-neutrality or balance etc.
-
Why the change? Because defensive shifts are momentum-killers especially two-out situations. Thus why batters have elected to swing for the fences than hit into a known-out.
Having said that, if a team with 0 outs turn a double play and reach 2 outs. The defensive team can not alter their shift, or remain neutral. Like defensive zoning rules. This enables some game theory elements for baseball. This 2 out-no shift rule needs some tinkering, thought I crowd-source this one from afic
-
I'm posting here first, not letting Manfred getting a whiff on my ideas to improve MLB. He's the commissioner and he hates baseball. Need feedback though.
Bring in the fences especially centerfield 15-20 feet pending altitudes and climates.
Reduce the fences so OF'ers with athleticism and speed can chase down the outs in homerun territories, however if they fail to catch the ball it is an automatic HR.
