Vote off manager could have negative implications - should be very softly enforced in terms of maintaining a certain degree of participation. I may not be the current leader anymore, at any rate, I care more about wide competition, which brings more meaning to the league. Question is at what price?
-
In an anonymous vote off, say for example 10 managers want 1 particular manager out, my view is there doesn't really need to be a standard, other than an agreed to number of votes. I mean, it's a game. If people don't want to play with somebody, then that's enough for me. It's a privilege, not a right to be part of Just a Bit Outside! BTW - I just sent Nova a message to check in.
-
If you get a reply that says I'm not really into it, then lets see if someone else will snag the team. Otherwise, give it a week? After a month that's a reasonable courtesy to establish whether someone has truly abandoned their team or not.
-
Yeah I think a month of inaction warrants an email check-in, if nothing else. I don't think you can implement a new policy for abandoning a team during the season, though. I'm all for setting a standard--either with an activity expectation, or even a vote (based on inactivity or actual egregious behavior, not general skill or personality)--in the offseason. Rebuilds, vacations, life events, etc. happen, but do your best to field a lineup and play the game. Or get a co-manager.
-
One idea I would support would be a post-season anonymous vote off. If enough ppl think any manager should be replaced for whatever reason, Id be down. Might be a good way to trim the fat and have 12 quality managers year in and year out. Except of course if you vote me off!:)
-
All that said, if enough managers support the move, Im just here to support the will of the league
-
My pause even if he says he's done with the league, is whether it be unfair to any contender who made prior trades with the understanding that NovaCain's not available? I guess Im just concerned whether it would disrupt the integrity of the league to make this kind of change so deep into the season. For example, if I were BOPS (the current leader), I might think it unfair to give the guys under me a sudden source of new opportunities to chase him down.
-
All good points. I totally get YJ's concern and appreciate it being brought up, but in terms of action I agree with WAR. Im happy to reach out. If he doesn't respond I don't think we should do anything until the season is over. It doesn't feel right for me to take away something he purchased w/o consent or having done anything purposely to diminish the league. If he says he doesn't care about the team and green lights us to open up the spot, then I think it becomes an interesting debate.
-
Agree with WAR here. If he declares he's done then get a new owner in, but if he says he's just lost touch for a bit then we can't boot him mid season. The off season is a different story and it should be the goal of the league to consistently hunt for owners who are extremely active. And this comes from a team that is absolutely atrocious but still continues to meet the starting lineup requirements.
-
Agreed. What if he doesn't respond to an email for a month?

I'd be fine with it if we got in contact with him and he said he was done but otherwise I'd be against it.

But if they don't respond to email or say "yep, I don't care about that team anymore," wouldn't the league be better off getting a replacement now-ish than in the offseason? And wouldn't the replacement be better off getting a start sooner rather than later?

I know that, at the time, we talked about requiring people who claim a team to pay in for the renewal fee so that we don't have people picking up and abandoning teams. I'm not saying Nova did that, but is there at least not some indicia that Nova took a swing, didn't get a competitive team, and then bailed? If he/she responds to an email and says "yeah, but I wasn't worrying about making moves until close to the deadline," I'd say fine

I can respect that point of view and I'm not saying it's wrong. I am willing to give some leeway - especially to an owner like Danks who showed effort on a lot of occasions and ultimately stepped away on his own because he couldn't meet the demands of the league. I'm not saying we give Nova a week or else or anything. But he/she came into the league and made a lot of win now moves and has not been active for over a month.

I'm not sure that this is something we want to start doing mid season. If he paid for a whole season he should be allowed to not pay attention for a while (or not respond to an email). While it's fun to compete for top league, I'm not sure we should be dropping owners because of it.

It is an interesting dilemma like our league for example, 6+ teams are vying for prize positions is uncommon. Not the typical 3+ team chase and rest of the league is hibernating situation. To sustain a large pool of teams in contention, the other non-contending teams have to be somewhat active and it is also their advantage to reap as much future returns as possible. Call it baseball game theory heh.
-
Yeah, I mean, I'm not saying someone can't go a week or two on vacation or whatever. Nor am I saying you must make trades if you are not contending. I'm also not saying we should kick someone out summarily even if they've been MIA for a while. Just saying if it seems like you've abandoned your team (as it seems NovaCain has done), maybe we should send an email and see if that is in fact the case. If so, let's do it sooner than later. RIP Danks

I see your perspective. I share that perspective with the league's perspective. Same forest, perhaps different trees. Our previous commish was heavily MIA as well, and we were still a top and laid back league. Course the vibe will continue to change as the quality of our members have grown as well. So if I'm reading you right, we have STANDARDS now, let it be well intended ones is my ultimate perspective.
-
Now, in full disclosure, I have selfish reasons for suggesting that insofar as I would like to have another seller at the trade deadline, BUT I imagine that same statement goes for at least all of the rest of the top 6. I don't see any reason to just have the team be dead until the offseason if it doesn't have to be that way. Perhaps someone picking up the team would like to have both the deadline and the offseason to make moves. Anyone have any thoughts?

Throwing this out there for discussion: I see we all now are able to see the last activity date for each team. It's nice to see every team has been active within the last day or two, which is an awesome aspect of this league. However, that is with the exception of NovaCain who has not been active for more than a month. I feel like perhaps the commish should send him/her an email and find out if he's going to come back and if not, perhaps the team should be made available?

Dammit, winter came for Correa!

When they ask what happened here, tell them the North remembers. That winter is coming and it's coming for all of them.

The power of the emoji cannot be denied. Benintending had never recieved such wide spread trade accolades prior to his conversion. Great fortunes await you Panda Shield.

Yeah, agreed, nice move Benintending. Also, had to change the name with the roster move, sorry for any confusion. Got to get on that emoji train though...

Good move Benintending. I like.

81 games of Judge at Fenway and ownership would probably be forced to make fans wear a helmet in the Monster seats with those exit velocities

I know you secretly dream about Judge playing 81 games a year with that short left field...

We apologize for bringing down the overall ranking of the league. Yet, this was necessary. NOTE: We are doing our best to keep a full lineup every night.

Jeets giving me 2013 PTSD. At least, I made a trade this time, and and...yeah I have emoji power! I'm set.

Get the best of both worlds in one sense. More K's from pitchers and more HR's from batters.
-
Explains a lot, all these ripple effects: Increase in Tommy Johns, blister epidemic, and lateral issues. Generic fans only appreciate one side of the game: hitting. Real fans understand both sides of the game: pitching and hitting. Add the Fantasy Sport metrics to this madness, and yeah everything makes sense now. Not random at all.

Amen brother. Winding it a little tighter every year for the last three years. Trying to bring the younger audience to the game with homeruns. 700 more hrs in 2015 than 2014. 700 more hrs in 2016 than 2015. That means 1400 more hrs in 2016 than 2014. 2017 is seeing four Homer days by guys name scooter. 450 foot homers by utility infielders. It's a little out of control.
-
Get whiff of MLB using juiced balls again? Word is the balls allow more velocity however less lateral movement. Most HR's ever in June.
-
You're not the only one, Plumbers, but it looks like they were just fixed. Seems like there's sometimes a lag/connection problem between Ottoneu and where it's pulling its data from (MLB? CBS Sports?). Usually rare and fixed quickly.

Has anyone else had issues seeing 7/2 stats? Plumbers' roster indicates that even 1PM games haven't started yet and no stats shown for any players.
