Hear ye, hear ye! Step on up to make pointless trades with Shrews. For only 2 pointless hours, deal with the manager who doesn't care about standings in this "joke" league and only trades to "eff around." Sounds like a helluva time to me. Fun will be had by all!
-
BTW that was a three way trade in case you wondered if some deals seem one sided.
-
anyways...Stanton is back Friday and available, along with Lucroy and Hundley if you need help at C. Just looking to build toward next year with cheap keepers, not necessarily prospects. (just going to drop it as it's clear he's an idiot and will never understand)
-
I would be agreeable to buying in. Two years ago, I finished fourth. So I don't see where you're going with that argument. Also, the "others" you refer to aren't ben's brothers. So are we not getting kicked out because this league is a joke, or because we (others and me) are hiding behind ben? Is it one, the other, all? I'm confused. I'm dissapointed to see that your arguments have have been lowered to the level of playground name calling whilst you operate in a league of grown-ass men
-
And I don't care if you don't care. I am going to beat you. I am better than you.
-
Look. One, I really don't care if you beat me or not. I do this solely to eff around with because I think it's fun. Two, my issue is that you hide behind your brother to stay in this league when in any other instance you would have been kicked out two years ago along with a couple of others. So good luck on beating me and still finishing in the bottom half, really excellent job. Until this league actually makes some changes and you have to buy in to play it's all a joke anyway.
-
lol
-
oh my. Its nice to see some fiery competition coming from the bottom half of the standings.
-
In sum, my jackass style of managing exceeds your style of constantly failing to rebuild.
-
I'll say it again, I am going to beat you this season. Your excuses of injuries and trades won't change that fact. I don't know why you bother with making trades anyway, your teams are always garbage. Including this season, in which you have unceasingly railed on me (probably with merit), my team has still, on average, outpaced yours in the history of our league by over 700 points. Additionally, I have a top 4 finish, and your team hasn't even managed to break into the top half a single time.
-
Welcome back spom!!!
-
(He says as I've traded half my players and received a lot of guys on the DL but well done!) It's absolutely ridiculous you're even allowed to remain in the league after this season, and even more so when you drop in right before the deadline to make ridiculous deals with the only person you ever respond to. So well done on continuing to be a jackass about the whole thing!
-
Sorry for the unresponsiveness during a large chunk of the season. Andrew and Kenton, sorry specifically to the both of you. Shrews, I see that you have been quite frustrated with me. Good, that'll make my placement above you in the leader board at the conclusion of the season that much sweeter. I believe this was a promise I made during the draft, and I will fulfill it. I can understand why you would be so frustrated by me since my mismanaged team is already near to your point total. Game on
-
Hahaha....wait. Sam hasn't done a thing all season and now he trades Seager and Gomez for THAT?! What a freaking joke

In case anyone needs a catcher, Lucroy can be had for a young keeper before we get to the deadline.

Well I certainly didn't mean to start all this. I do think you're low balling the amount of time it takes. Regardless, the question is not the minimal amount to operate a team, but the amount it takes to compete. That would be league specific. And in our league, I would guess more than 3 minutes per day. And I certainly like the dynasty league format.
-
Honestly the reason for dynasty leagues is to make the whole season important, its meant to keep interest all season long. I do understand a drop in activity following the trade deadline, because the only way you can then make your team better is through free agents. But it seems like everyone with the exception of Sam at least changes their team on a somewhat regular basis which is good. But this next month the people at the bottom should really be looking to get value out of non-keepers.
-
Not that I want anyone to leave, i just think it makes sense to check your team once a week at least lol
-
We chose to be in this fantasy league and no one is forced to stay, and if you aren't interested in it enough to check it at least weekly, I dont see why you would even want to be in the league.
-
sorry dk wasnt trying to call you dumb. Honestly though, I dont think its absurd for you to ask for weekly involvement. Even daily involvement. It literally takes 3 minutes to change a lineup. That is what you have to do to win. I only know prospects from looking at baseball americas list lol.
-
And the last time I checked I could use a calculator but it's been awhile, so who knows. Maybe it's just a lack of common sense.
-
I don't want to sound like I'm bitching about the league. I love it. I like Fangraphs and I like buying prospects. I would prefer H2H but whatever. I only bring up these points to say I completely understand not checking your team very often if you're out of the race. I also realize it's going to be hard for me to win because I don't put the same time in that you all do. I don't know a lot of great prospects (except white sox if you couldn't tell). But hey, I still have a lot of fun with it
-
That you lose interest in something when you're losing seems to be pretty obvious, but whatever. I'm not saying fun can't still bad had, but expecting daily (or even weekly) devotion seems unreasonable. And I agree that while you might still technically be in the race, it's much more difficult to mount a comeback. And I've finished as high or higher than everyone but Ben Christian and Jodie the last 3 years, so I feel ok about where I am.
-
Take Mike Aviles for example. Even though he is eligible to play at multiple positions, you have only played him 8 games this year. He has averaged less than 3 points per game for 3 years. So its not really worth having him take up a roster spot because you aren't going to keep or play him. You are better off adding a prospect or a major leaguer from the free agents who averages 4.5 points per game and has upside.
-
If you can do math without a calculator, it takes a second to determine their average points per game or average points per inning. Click on the player name it pulls up their points from the last 3 years. Click on their fangraphs profile and you see projections. If they have sucked, and are projected to suck, then just cut them. You could go through everyone on your team and determine whether you want to cut them or not. It would take like 15 minutes.
-
Lol I'm not saying spend every minute of every day playing. Yes it takes much more than once every 4 weeks. Honestly you should get an email for every auction, and you should look at every one (it gives you like 3 days) and see if that player is better than someone on your team. Also occasionally like once a week look at the free agents and see if there is anyone who would help your team win next year. Its not hard. Its not really time consuming. You just have to have common sense.
-
But I guess if you assess your team and you think your team is not up for the challenge, you can do what Christian was talking about and work towards next year which probably takes just as much time.

I would argue you are never out of the running unless you either quit or not pay attention. It might mean you put in some time and not win, but you never know what one or two trades or a couple injuries might swing things. I mean it looked like I might run away with it last year, and Christian and Ben made a few moves, and I lost some key players. They made up probably 1000 or 1200 points to beat me. My point is you never know what might happen through the course of the entire year.

Hell, I've been in the bottom half the last three years and I mess around with it just to have fun. I come up with a plan, find someone who will respond to a trade, then completely obliterate my previous plans just to make deals.
-
I have no idea why there should be any change in interest if you're out of the race. It takes the same amount of effort to watch the waiver wire for people that can help you next year than it takes to watch it for this year. There's only so much you can do to prepare for next year? And there's only so much you can do this year. It's exactly the same, isn't it? Maybe you care a little less about your lineups, but that's it.

And for the record I'm fine keeping this format. Just saying expect to continue finding teams in the lower half of the standings putting forth substantially less time into the league. I will certainly lose interest if I feel like I no longer have a chance. I'll still care and try to set up my team for next year, but there's only so much you can do.
-
Also I just disagree with you all about H2H. Yeah a 6 seed team can get lucky in the playoffs and win. Welcome to sports. It's happens all the time. A team gets hot at the right time, even if they aren't the best team. In any sport. (See especially college basketball) It at least ups competition and hopefully creates parity and rivalry, the things that make sports fun in the first place.
-
I mean...we all have lives, stuff going on, etc but really, once a month? You don't have 5 minutes a day or two a week? If you're really so busy you have no free time aside from 5 minutes a month you might want to be rethinking some other things.
-
you honestly think checking in once a month is active?
-
Kenton- like I said, I personally don't have time to invest that kind of time into a fantasy league. I'm not exactly sure what you're advocating, but it seems to be more than I'm willing to spend. Like I said, I enjoy making trades, putting out a good team, and trying to win, but I'm not more invested than that. I agree that even if you're out of it, you should be trying to compete for the future. Just saying that takes minimal time (maybe checking once every 3-4 weeks or something)
-
Yeah, Head-to-head is garbage. Your strategy should change depending on the standings, but it requires just as much strategy to prepare for next season and identify quality players. I picked up Carlos Carrasco on waivers last year in like September or something.

Last place last year*
-
I was last place team this year- this year I am contending for first, and I will be for years to come I think. And trust me on this. Selling for the future is a fun thing to do. I had just as great of a time last season as well. I love this league because what you do each season is actually genuinely long-term. Head-to-head is garbage because it relies on statistical variability to excuse people from having to actually manage their teams properly. I'd be happy to help too!
-
Right now there are many players on waivers that I would like to have on my team, but I dont have enough roster spots. I have them on my watch list in case I free up a roster spot via injury or trade. There are still a lot of good players and good prospects on the waiver wire If there is anyone who you aren't going to keep (whether because of suckiness or price) try and trade them, or cut them, and get someone who you could potentially keep.
-
If anyone is not having fun in this, or wants help understanding who to keep or cut on their team, I'd gladly help. I want the league to be competitive and I want people to check their team or be actively trying to improve them.
-
Honestly it would be a lot more competitive if people changed their lineups, and also understood players worth having on your roster. If I was manager of several of the teams in the league, I would cut at least 10 people. People need to understand that a 1b who averages 3.5 points per game for the last 3 years, is not someone you should have on your roster. A pitcher, who never in his career has averaged over 4 points/inning, should not be owned.
-
Head to head obviously would give hope to the players at the bottom, but also it would turn into fantasy football, where even the last place team can get lucky for a week and win the playoffs. Honestly I think the problem is, is that people think there isn't a reason to pay attention if you aren't going to win this year. Last year my team was middle of the road, so i benched all my players so i could get waiver priority and because i kept up with my team and made good trades my team is good now.
-
And while I agree that once you get behind like where I'm at I won't win, but I can still make moves and try to put myself in a position for the future by loading up on cheaper players and prepare for the next draft. Again, it's entertainment so just eff around with it every now and then. It's hard to do that when him (and a couple others) are basically black holes for players to go to and never move off the team.
-
I really don't care where people finish as long as they are semi-active, will respond to requests, and put some sort of effort in. Why even agree or sign up if you aren't going to do anything with it? Half the time I make moves just to make moves, it's more interesting to me that way. Will I ever win? Probably not, but I'm going to get at least try to get some entertainment out of it either way.
