I'd like to hear from Christian too. I like to get unanimous support from Piepers before making any decisions about my team.
-
I think there are ~500 available players who have more upside than him.
-
My first order of business as GM of Hall of Frank is to release Mike Aviles and replace him with any player who has scored more fantasy points in the past two years (with 600+ PA) which basically means all players but two.
-
I'm happy to help. I used to feel my life was pointless, because no matter what I do with my time, it never really made a difference. But then I realized, if i use my time solely to serve those more powerful than me, those who have college degrees, I am able to save them time. By doing such things as washing their clothes for them, taking out their trash, polishing their shoes, or in this instance, doing fantasy baseball research for them, they now can concentrate on less trivial things.
-
In providing you guys with the pearls of fantasy wisdom that I have spent a majority of the last year learning, I'm able to contribute to something bigger. I'll always do what I can to save you guys some of your precious invaluable minutes. If my calculations are correct, an hour of my time is about equal to a minute of your time. To use a baseball metaphor, i'm a mop up reliever, you guys are the closers. We don't wanna waste your innings pitching in pointless situations.
-
Yeah good point. Luckily its not hard to take an hour a week to do fantasy baseball whenever your time is worthless. Sometimes, it pays to have less friends and a less prestigious job. When your time is worth so much less in comparison to other people in the league, it gives you a competitive advantage.
-
Sassy I like it
-
Why don't we just let the Piepers control all of our teams? That would fix all the problems.
-
I'm not trying to say that I'm better than any of you guys or smarter than any of you (although I may be) I'm just pointing out how rebuilding doesn't have to take a long time, if you add players with high upside, or who are performing well (and at a sustainable rate) then you can turn a garbage team into a good team (like i did from last year to this year).
-
Also because I've been adding high potential prospects all season long to fill my extra roster spots. Then I've just been trading them in bulk for better players as their prospect status has increased. Out of the 25 players I've traded away 16 of them have been added from waivers this year. Of course I got lucky on how some of my waiver wire adds panned out, but Christian's pitching, which has been the best in the league, is made up of almost exclusively waiver wire adds from last yr and this yr
-
Also, paying attention after the trade deadline is still important to have a good team for next year, so if you are gonna pay to play, you probably wanna be checking the waiver wire regularly. You may not be able to trade for anyone now, but once the season is over, myself, christian, and I'm sure other people will have to unload some keepers even though they are below market price just because we have taken on so many people. The players you add in waivers are good trade bait in offseason.
-
Andrew is right. If you aren't in contention just cut people you aren't going to keep. Especially now that the trade deadline is over. The exception to that rule is, if you have an expensive player that you aren't going to keep, but would then be keepable at half of their price (because when you cut them someone could add them for half the value, and you would be making their team better which is bad for your team)
-
If you are losing, and you aren't going to keep someone at a price. Cut them right now and add players with upside that you could possibly keep- even if it's a long shot it's a better option than the alternative.
-
5 pts/IP
-
My suggestion to everyone is don't keep anyone that won't have a chance of helping you win. If you have any players who consistently average around 4 points/game with no upside, cut them. If you want them really badly draft them next year for 1$. Also, don't be afraid to ship off your valuable assets for multiple valuable assets. 3 for 1 trades are great if you are routinely out of contention. Trade an ace for 2 #2 starters who avg. 5 pts/game.
-
yeah I mean I understand it being somewhat unfair for people to pay 50 dollars whenever their team sucks really bad. But then again it would be unfair to charge more to the people because their team has been good and because they have cared enough to keep up with it and have already made a better team. I mean if we want to do 25 for the first year and 50 after that I'm ok with that. It'll give those who want to rebuild a chance to rebuild.
-
I do not think we should promote rebuilding. While I understand that you may fall out of the running early and decide I am going to regroup for next year. But as Kenton and Andrew has shown this year, it doesn't take multiple years to rebuild. It can, but doesn't have to. Also I am all for coming up with some sort of incentives for the teams not in the running in order to keep the interest of every team.

Generally speaking, no one should enter a season not expecting to compete that season in a league with only 12 teams.

No discount to rebuild. That's silly. You don't need to rebuild in a fantasy league. There are still valuable players available for free right now. You can rebuild if you want to, in an effort to build a dynasty with lots of young players, but you absolutely don't have to.

that being said, if the price goes up to $50, I'm out. But i completely understand if that's what you all want to do

Big scheme of things that's all I'm hoping for

These arguments ought to increase participation. This is fun.

My concern is that people who aren't going to be able to compete for a year or two, won't want to waste $100 to rebuild for two years. The way which this league is set-up, it can take more than a year to rebuild. That way $25 allows them to remain in the league and still contribute to the pot, while still maintaining an incentive for them to finish top 3.
-
I support having a competitive price and a rebuild price. $50 for a team if you're going for all the marbles. $25 if you just want to stay in the league, but will rebuild that year (the kicker is that if you win the league at rebuild, then you only get %50 of the total pot that year). 2nd and 3rd place automatically gets their investment back. In the case of a rebuild team winning, the remainder of the pot goes to the highest-ranked competitive paid team.
-
(I 100% support Kenton and Jodie with the $50 buy in even though I suck at life)
-
Also we should just make this like a 50 dollar buy in. That way if people don't keep up with it, i'm happy because that means I get their money for free.
-
wtf is even happening? now you're coming too? It's good to see the group come together again post-vote to add Ryan. I don't really know what you all are talking about with overpriced veterans or Braves players, but okay. Again, this is my point. You all wake up and pay attention (finally) when someone calls it out, it's pretty simple. I don't know why you're offended by it. Just like with Sam, I'm done with the conversation as it's clearly going nowhere. You all just do your thing
-
will never compete
-
me.
On that note I do think more people would stay more involved in the league if we could somehow do match-ups every week. I don’t know how we could do it but I think it would be more fun, just a suggestion.
-
I was also one of the few who woke up after the website went down the day of the draft to see if we were going to finish that morning.
Just because you like making pointless trades in order to do something in the league, doesn't mean others like to do the same as you. i have kept up with the league this year, more often than you actually, based on filling innings which is how you score points in this league. I just don't complain when things aren't going my way, or if people don't trade with
-
Stfu. I think we are all happy that Sam is back and cares about the league again. I accept his apology, and I think he should still be in the league. However I do not like the excuse that " I didn't pay attention because I knew my team didn't have a chance to compete" It seems several people are excusing their lack of activity based on their ability to compete. The "I can't compete, thus I won't try to get better" argument kind of just means you will never get better and you
-
you guys all need to stfu lol
-
Looks like you need to pay more attention to your roster Shrews. I guess you're upset that I don't trade with you very often. The reason I don't is because I don't want your shitty players. Which usually consisted of overly priced prospects and Braves players.
I don’t trade very much because I don’t like taking huge risks, which usually happens at the beginning of the season. I like small trades with low risk. I also update my lineup and check free agents quite often.

Your colorful and creative language is offensive and making me blush
-
(sigh...I'm done)
-
basically. #dick #jackass #idiot #playgroundnamecalling
-
ah so rather be a dick about it and not respond to anyone when 5 people were just trying to get you to respond? Got it
-
I'd rather make/offer no trades and let my team simmer (my team), than make a bunch of trades end up with a bunch of overpriced non-keepers (your team).
-
clearly
-
I understand the point you are trying to make, I really do. I just totally disagree with you. I knew my team was terrible this year. I knew. So I didn't pay a whole lot of attention because it wouldn't have mattered much. I knew that I would have the most trade value (and intentionally drafted this way) at the deadline. So I waited. So what if I managed my team different than you prefer. I give zero shits about what you think I should be doing.
-
Guess you still don't understand I really don't care if your team is better, nor do I care if I ever beat your team for the very special 7th-place finish this season. All I want is for people to respond to offers, make offers, etc. That is not asking a lot, and the same thing at least 4 others have asked for this season. But continue coming at me if you would like if that makes you pay attention to the league. Nothing I have said is really wrong, sorry if I offended you Nick.
-
...not really sure where I've been passive-aggressive at. I have called you an idiot for being in the league pretty directly. sooooo yeah. Again, as I have said numerous times I don't care at all where someone finishes or if they come in last every single year. Really don't. Only thing I want, and I am pretty sure everyone else would agree, is for everyone to be even remotely active which you have failed at on all levels. That's not a mean comment, simply the truth that you are struggling with.
-
You are correct, you did try to wrap up this argument, and wrapped up by calling me an idiot. We will probably still be doing this as long as you continue to make passive-aggressive comments directed at me, my managerial style, and team (which, I'll repeat myself once more, is still better and has outperformed yours). If we are looking solely at results, your team and mine are equals. I don't see why you are in the position to call anyone out when you can barely even beat us in any given season.
-
(disclamer: this is based on league history, not necessarily today. This is not the first time any of this has been brought up. I said earlier I was done as it clearly was going nowhere and he continues to pop off. He mentioned the others so I simply said others I had previously mentioned over the last few years based on responding to offers/etc) Alas, I will shut up as we apparently are pretending no one else ever said anything.
-
I like how 3 other people just got pulled into this discussion. I'm pretty confused as to why my name is being thrown around? I check my team several times per week. I agree with what Derek said awhile back about not being as interested in the league when you're in the bottom half. However, I for one check my team, still entertain trade offers even though I may not accept or counter often, and check on my prospects frequently in preparation for next year. Cmon, Shrews, give it up already, man

I also am not sure why my computer is putting ' in place of just ' so I guess that does makes me an idiot

I also don't have any idea what playground name calling you're talking about. The "others" as you would like to describe them: you, Nick, Ryan, and Baxley. It's nothing against any of you, you just don't really pay a lot of attention and that's fine. There's just no need to be in the league. Not sure why that offends anyone and it's not like I'm the only one who has commented asking for removal. But I'll take that blame and run with it if it makes you pay attention to try to beat me fo
-
*sigh* we're still doing this? I don't really understand how anything I've said is untrue. I'd actually be more irritated if I was in contention only for you to show up right before the deadline and finally respond to deals, alas I'm never in contention (apparently because it's awful to just mess around with a fantasy team) so what do I know? I have no idea what the couple of hours thing is referring to, but as I'm just messing around I'd actually be one of the easier ones to deal with
