Strasburg on the block... holla.
-
Thanks for the compassion Cutch. The implosion of my starting staff has me questioning the nature life, the universe and everything. If the answer is Jackie Robinson...well it's a good year for that.
-
Mr. Commish, shall we vote on some options and let the chips fall where they may?
-
I agree this is a weird season and it seems not fun to get two full rounds of arb on your players in between normal ones. But I also think there's a key point that Roar made, that if we have only minimal salary increase, most teams are likely to keep nearly all their players and we will have a very quiet draft, which is also missing out on fun.
-
spot-on Inkosi-kass - I am 100% aligned w/ your posts.
-
The reasons for this are myriad but the most important one is fun. It's simply not fun to put a lot of time and effort into our squads to have them accelerate normally for such a disproportionate amount of enjoyment in a shortened, COVID-stricken season. And this should be fun. Now more than ever. Anyhow. That's me weighed in. Typos courtesy of my intelligent telephone. Cheers!
-
I'll toss my pair of pennies into the gray while I have a minute. I think the Ottoneu, automatic mandatory salary increases should be allowed to function as they are currently designed. That is to say $2 MLB/$1 MiLB increases if we get a full season and no increases if we don't. That said, I am for forgoing arbitration budgets of any size as a league.
-
NOLA acquires Bo Bichette last year in a trade - he gets to play 60 games if healthy in 2020 (we all know he is banged up now) so he plays ~20... now his salary goes from $17 to $19 automatically (seems fair) and then I’m sure folks will up his salary through arbitration... is that fair for 20 games?
-
here is an example of my thought process on why we need an adjustment using another team...
-
yeah, I agree, the rules apply to everyone so whatever so I’m good w/ whatever... with that said, and since it’s a prorated season, I would be up for the standard salary increases and not doing arbitration... (easy button).
-
Just to be clear - at the moment, I'm only trying to clarify the options as I understand them. Personally, I don't believe it makes sense to make any changes. But, I do think that any changes should be more than majority vote.

Respectfully abstaining. Other fish to fry. No disrespect Fish.

... way to do that seems like it would be to just cancel arbitration altogether but keep the $2 and $1 salary increases. but again, I really don't care either way. Whatever the majority wants is fine.

1. I don't understand why we're having this debate. Whatever the rules are about salary increases, they apply equally to everyone.
2. If you believe that our league already keeps too many players, or if you believe that salaries at auction are too inflated, then reducing the amount of arbitration or annual salary increase will only encourage people to keep more of their players.
3. I honestly don't care what we do, but it seems like if the majority won't to hold down salaries, then the easiest

Yeah, I would have to manually change them (or maybe there's some way to undo all adjustments, not sure). But it could be something like "assign all your arb dollars as usual, then after, the total salary increases are cut in half." Or multiplied by 0.37 or whatever.
-
I believe the automatic salary increase can be adjusted by Commish Rime after the fact, so we could vote to change the rules to suit ourselves to some degree. For example, $1 for MLB-appearing and $0 for others, etc.

gotcha, so The vote would be yes or no on both salary increase and arbitration process - correct? (thanks for looking it up re: Niv)

8/12 for any changes is my vote

Re: arbitration - Niv says it is going to be all or nothing in terms of the amount of $ - 'you have to apply all $25 or your money doesn't count' will be in place, such that there will be no way for there to be a prorated amount of dollars/team to allocate; the way a league 'skips' arbitration is to have nobody put any dollars on. Here's the reference from his 'short season' rules: "Leagues that completely do not participate in arbitration will not have any arbitration applied"

I would say 8 votes (2/3 of the league of course) and maybe the first question would be binary... does the league want to allocate the standard $25 or a prorated amount that is TBD... if the later is picked, then maybe majority rules on diff thresholds $10,$15,$20...thoughts?
-
I for one would be less likely to vote for changes as we get near / past the trade deadline, but I will not halt any efforts to gather votes. I think the first question is how many votes are needed to enact a change? I'm thinking 8 or 9 - doesn't have to be unanimous, but a simple majority doesn't feel like enough to me to change it either.
-
Hey y'all. Trade deadline is on 8/31, and while the season seems to be progressing with some hiccups (Cardinals for example), I think we should revisit the propositions to adjust our salary increase and arbitration process. In the absence of any voter-approved changes, we will use the Ottoneu increases as directed by the site (+$2 for most players, $1 if they have not played in MLB, $25 per team to allocate). I welcome proposals and would call to a vote any that have significant support.

Ohtani up for sale.

... sale.

Ok, looks like WE'RE HAVING A FIRE!!!

If you haven't talked to me about Scherzer, next 1-3 days may be your last chance. He's supposed to start Tuesday, and while I'd understand wanting to see him healthy before a move, that also could mean 10% of his remaining studliness this season. Get at me with your best, as I might make the deal Monday if someone wants that Tuesday start.
-
You need a hitter you can count on to produce and have an upper-tier SP to offer? See me about F. Freeman.

My 6.85 ERA doesn't even include Ohtani's start.

Funny. That's essentially what that trade was for me after my starters took huge dump opening week.

Oh. Yeah. Must be...

Quite the trade there, Buehler giving up their team namesake!
-
Absolutely incredible. My team had a .000 batting average in 33 plate appearances yesterday. A few walks and HBP though, so the OBP was .121!
-
I've let some of you know already, but since not everyone frequents the trade blocks, Jo Adell is for sale. And he's getting the call up tomorrow. If you're interested, message me in the champagne room.

According to Niv, that is so, 'per MLB rules' - suspended players don't count towards the 40 man, etc.

Oh interesting, suspended players no longer count for your 40-man roster? I was looking at my lineup and went "wtf is Domingo German doing back on my roster? Oh yeah, I wanted to cut his cap penalty. But I didn't get notified to drop someone when I won the auction?"

I need a SS. Essential job requirements: a pulse. Good to have: a willingness to wear a mask and avoid large crowds of Miami Marlins.

I’m gonna throw any ole warm body in my lineup today!
-
Or no inning stay-at- homers.
-
...there are gonna be so many 7 inning double-headers... and eventually 5 inning triple-headers (I kid... maybe)
-
i kinda like "Tarki Skrewball" but I am w/ ya Rime... can't change an old staple!
-
If I didn't have such a classic longstanding name here, I'd consider changing it to Tauchman Turner Overdrive

Wonder if they'll miss *half* the season. Or how many games each other team completes as a result of their and their opponents' situations.
