I feel like I dragged my feet too long in trying to make the perfect spreadsheet evaluation and never pushed that hard for trades. Sigh, oh well... gonna just result in a ton of drops and an interesting auction I guess!
-
Deadline is in just over 1 hour (Midnight Eastern, 10 pm Mountain, 9 pm Pacific). Next order of business (besides discussing borderline Pirates HOF cases) will be setting our draft date. Traditionally we've done a Sunday afternoon in March.
-
Ok y’all It’s cutdown day; if you’re not working out any last minute trades, cut the players you need to in order to have the space you want for our auction draft! And thanks all who renewed or told me they will in the coming days!
-
6/12 people have not renewed for the 2023 season yet…
-
I agree. I don’t think Cutch is a HoFer - very good ball player but he will fall short.
-
Bobby Grich certainly belongs in the HOF. McCutch's case feels more borderline, ala Parker, Dale Murphy, etc.

Honestly, I was just trying to point out that Bobby Grich belongs in the HOF and ask if people think of McCutchen as a future HOF

And one more quick comparison, which is 5 year span Peak WAR: Parker, '75-'79, 30.3 WAR; Walker, '97-'01, 28.3 WAR.

Ok, that's what I get for making an off the cuff post about the HOF process, so fair play to both Roar and the Commish. That said, I am more of a peak years guy when it comes to the HOF, so though I will certainly acknowledge that Walker was the better hitter overall and no doubt the better fielder, there is also this: Walker's peak 5 years of WAR - 9.1, 7.6, 5.3, 5.4, 5.0; Parker's peak 5 years of WAR - 7.7, 6.8, 6.5, 5.7, 5.4. That's Walker 32.4, Parker 32. 1, which is my point etc.

And last thing as we all drag our feet on trades (Mr. Trout deal notwithstanding) - everyone please heed the message about "Extend(ing) Your Dynasty" by Jan 31 on the Dashboard. Anyone who doesn't pay up will at least be locked out, and at worst could have your team listed as "available" for some other enterprising soul to pay for and take over. Do it early please!
-
@Roar - very good question. I believe the 60-Day IL guys will extend your allowable roster for the draft (e.g. it'll say "33 of 41") but that's worth checking on. If I'm wrong, we could agree as a league to allow penalty-free drops of IL guys between the cut deadline and the draft, perhaps?
-
I mean, I wouldn't call Parker's .339 OBP and .471 SLG that similar to Walker's .400 / .565, Coors and all. I think Walker and Rolen both got a boost from reputations as excellent defensive players as well, while Parker looks more just okay. Interesting career for sure! And Helton's in next year!
-
As much as I love stats, and agree that WAR is a useful tool, I'm skeptical of it being the be all end all of HOF debates. Parker certainly has been impacted by the cocaine stuff...and Babe Ruth drank alcohol throughout Prohibition. Etc.

wasn’t the Pirate Parrot involved as well? that’s a stain the the buccos for sure.
-
Career (Fangraphs) WAR: Rolen (69.9) Bobby Grich (69.1) Walker (68.7) Andrew McCutchen (50.8) Parker (41.1). Plus there was that whole episode where Parker arranged cocaine deals for his teammates, which, whether or not you think it should have any bearing on his HOF eligibility, probably didn't help him with voters.

ohh great data point re: Walker!
-
Agreed on both Rolen and The Cobra, Cutch - the latter also had a similar career to the recently elected Larry Walker.

good for Rolen BUT… where is the 🐍
Dave Parker
.290, 2712 hits, 339 HRs, 7 All-Star, 2 WS, 1 MVP, 3 Gold Glove, 3 Silver Slugger, 2 batting champ
Scott Rolen
.281, 2077 hits, 316 HRs, 7 All-Star, 1 WS, 0 MVP, 8 Gold Glove, 1 Silver Slugger, 0 batting champ

Commish: I want to clarify how the 60-day IL works and how it relates to draft day. My understanding is that there is no 60-day IL in the offseason. So, using John Means as an example, he was on the 60-day at the end of last season and is currently just a dude on my roster taking up space. But by spring training or whenever we have our draft day, is the 60-day IL in effect? And if Means is on it, then my roster would be eligible for 41 spots on draft day? I believe the answer is yes but not sure

The Cubbies obviously don't play fantasy baseball or they would know that The Hosmer is the least desirable of players.

*Oops, I missed Buehler because he... doesn't really have a projection this year
-
TFW you're finally doing spreadsheets and realize there's only 4 pitchers in this league with a salary over $26 and they're all on your team :P
-
15 days til the deadline, and I've gotta cut some salary at some point. I put the expensive guys I'm most willing to part with on my block if y'all want to check it out and talk about what cheaper assets I could get instead of just cutting for nothing.

These are the dog days of January, at least until we get into that final week trade frenzy

And for the record I was a huge Sammy Sosa fan.
