I'm sure all of us are very excited at the prospect of trading for all of your underperforming players haha.
-
I am probably reacting to his terrible point totals during the heat of the pennant race, but Lester is extremely available to whomever wants him this off-season. As is Gerrit Cole, Seung Oh, and a few others who have been frustratingly disappointing by performing so far below their talent levels this year.
-
Other than his LOB% and his HR/FB everything in Lester's peripherals looks good as far as I can see. The LOB% has plummeted through the season while everything else is well within his standard performance. Probably just noise, but considering his issues with holding runners it certainly makes you wonder a bit more than you would for other pitchers.
-
Exactly like Gerrit Cole, and exactly unlike Corey Kluber, Jon Lester has started his last game as a Thoroughbred. Cubs should use him as an occasional 4th starter in the playoffs, or if they are smart they'll use him as a LOOGY.
-
I'm sure they will keep him in the rotation even if they shouldn't.
-
What happened to Jon Lester? Are the Cubs planning to keep him in their playoff rotation? Seems like he is a completely different pitcher the past month or two.
-
We all want to win, so "me" is simply assumed, even in my posts. I have lots of cap space so the more cuts the better...for me!
-
I should have said, "makes the draft better for me." But I didn't want to sound selfish. Still, I definitely can't afford to keep my roster intact, so most of my team will be available in the off season.
-
Hey Spa, you can make the auction more interesting all by yourself simply by dumping all three of your players who have or will likely pass 1200 points - Stanton, Judge and Kluber. If you are really feeling generous, you could even add Freeman who was on pace until his injury. Those 3 positions players are all better than anyone in last year's draft. And Kluber is right up there with Sale who was last year's top pitching free agent. It would be the Spa City redistribution draft! ;)
-
I would like to amend the punishment. Instead of a $50 penalty he has to take 2,000 points from his current year score and add them to the Flying Squirrels.
-
I think that Spa City Thoroughbreds should be penalized for tampering on speculating in the media regarding the availability of Kershaw and Harper. I propose a two year $50 salary cap penalty.

It will be interesting to see whether Kershaw and Trout are available at auction next year. They will both be over $60, and they both missed significant time this year, albeit not injuries that seem to be long-term. It is hard to win without at least a couple of 1200+ point players, but it is hard to get a deep roster with too much $ allocated to a few players. For the sake of a more exciting draft than last year, I hope there are some big-ticket players up for bid this time.
-
Soory Mighty Nimrods - I think we were typing at the same time. I meant to reply to the Squirrels. But I feel your pain with decisions I regret. I have made some bad ones - I cut $1 Matt Olson before he started hitting HRs every game. I really liked him, and I had him at $1, but I listened to scouts who said he was mediocre and I cut him when he briefly went to AAA. When he came back, I was too late to re-acquire him. Kicking myself for not going with my instinct on him.
-
You might be right. But there is not a huge difference between the 10th best hitter and the 20th best hitter. My guess is that after Trout and Altuve, the next tier of hitters includes Goldschmidt, Bryant, Harper, Rizzo, Stanton, Votto, Freeman, Donaldson, Judge, Springer, Martinez, Upton, Rendon, Arenado, Turner, Blackmon, Machado, Betts and a few others.
-
Trading a $13 Judge before the season would have been bad. Cutting a $7 Judge is therefore almost twice as bad. I would like to have that one back.
-
I don't think he is quite that high. That is basically putting him in the top 10, I think he is just a tier below those guys. A top 20 player probably, but not a top 10. He is currently the 4th highest scoring player this year. I think he will be somewhere around 15-20 next year.
-
My view is that Judge is a .380 to .390 wOBA hitter with the type of regression I expect. His August slump does not bother me; he posted an OBP over .350 even during his down month and he seems to have adjusted. I don't think he is Altuve or Trout level. But I think he is at the same level as Arenado, Betts, Freeman, or Bryant, especially in a 5-Outfielder format.
-
What do you think Aaron Judge will be worth next year? I think it's no question he will regress, but I'm just not sure how much.
-
The great Aaron Judge had me worried, but his wOBA is back up to .437 since September 1st. I almost traded him before the season started... would have been my worst trade since I traded $1 Mookie Betts for the legendary Jon Singleton.
-
22 year old Jen-Ho-Tseng on the mound for the Cubs tonight. 1.80 ERA in the hitter friendly PCL and 0% owned.

Thanks! I appreciate the recognition. Wish I could have given Spa City a better run.

For whatever its worth, Winnetka is beating my team in that league by several thousand points.
-
Congrats to Winnetka for his teams in other leagues being currently on pace for #1 and #7 in all of Ottoneu land. He may not catch Spa City in this league, but that is absolutely impressive. Way to go Winnetka! Source: http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/ottoneu-power-rankings-august-2017/

I don't know... If the Winnetka Cubs keep posting 230 point nights, it will be a much closer race than it seems.
-
I am guessing that last year the top of the standings were a lot tighter. It is going to take a few miracles for either the Winnetka Twins or the Flying Squirrels to chase you down this year. I think I can safely start designing the Spa City Thoroughbreds 2017 championship pennant as the rest of us focus on 2018.
-
Nobody up for last minute deals? Last year the trade deadline was exciting.
-
11.5 hours left. After that, trades are closed until late November. I have assets available for trades - not players I need to hold off the Cubs and Squirrels, but I have a handful of players who should be assets in 2018. I'm always open to trade ideas.
-
I have been enjoying gin and tonics since 9am, so I might have acted irrationally. But I had to get rid of Eickhoff. No place on my fake team for him. I should have known better.
-
I think that is the first time I have ever seen a pitcher get cut from a team while he is in the middle of pitching a game for them.
-
Take a hike, Eickhoff! He pitched 2 innings for the Thoroughbreds, and he won't be invited back for any additional innings.
-
I am still looking for trades. I would love to find a way to boost my P/IP by a couple 10ths of a point. I need to do a full tear-down and rebuild next year, so I may as well go all-in if anybody has a pitcher they are looking to trade. Backup SS is welcome also.
-
Anybody still looking to make some trades before our trade deadline has passed?
-
How about almost to the day after I cut Buxton he lights it up, for two straight years. 3 homers yesterday for Buxton.

I would have never guessed it was pronounced Reece, but if you can homer in 7 straight days I suppose you can spell it however you want.
-
I had to go watch video of that HR first, but yeah I think it's okay. That was impressive! Plus Rhys is a pretty awesome name.
-
Hoskins is a flash in the pan... You should trade him while his stock is artificially high... On that note, I will eagerly take him off your hands.
-
Is it too late to name my first born son Rhys? Unreal. Went down to get that HR last night. How about it Squirrel? :)
-
I just wish there was a better way to focus the punishment on the players, and not wind up disrupting an enjoyable pennant race.
-
I think if they could impose $1 million fines (or some similar, extremely costly amount of fines) it would hit the players more, and the fans less. Fines punish players, but suspensions hurt the fans. I just dislike the idea that a playoff contender will be p,aying without their closer and both catchers during a pennant race. But I agree they acted like thugs, and there is no place for that kind of nonsense in baseball. I am not feeling sorry for them...
-
I haven't checked what the media has said about the suspensions, here is a link from the NY Dailey News: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/yankees-lucky-gary-sanchez-ban-short-sucker-punches-article-1.3443282

Did you watch the footage? Did you see what Sanchez did? He should be suspended 20 games. I actually watched the game, had it on during work. Girardi amped the whole situation. Betances should have got 10 games, at least. Joe Torre clearly favored the Yankees, and it is a disgrace to the MLB.

I hate suspensions in the middle of a pennant race. Yankees had both of their catchers suspended! I would use fines instead of suspensions. Teams like Tigers who are not in contention probably care much less about suspensions. Suspend the managers all you want, and fine the teams and players as much as the labor agreement allows. But for a contending team to lose key players seems like MLB is hurting baseball fans unnecessarily.
-
Did any of you see the Tigers/Yankees fight footage? If so, what is your opinion of the suspensions that were levied?
