It was unbelievable who quickly Baez went back on the ball directly over his head into right field. The quickness of that first step and the direct route to the ball. Amazing.
-
Dammit, just realized that I spelled Special incorrectly.

Cubs had some pretty lucky bounces tonight. Including the, most likely, foul ball called fair that Rendon fumbled. Several Kansas City Specials also contributed mightily. Also, Javier Baez is pretty friggin awesome. For those of you who don't know what a Kansas City Speacial is: https://www.reddit.com/r/whitesox/comments/3f45mp/what_the_hell_is_a_kansas_city_special/

Twins-DBacks would be fun in a way... Both teams looked like disasters a year ago.
-
Red Sox fan so I'm going for them all the way. I would like to see the Nationals make it to the world series on the national league side. A Diamondbacks v Red Sox WS would be fun too because it would be Torey Lovullo v John Farrell.
-
Since my Bucs are out of it, I (kind of) want to root for the Astros - just because it would be a nice distraction from the storm damage for Houstonians - but I can't bring myself to have positive feelings about a Texas team. I absolutely HATE the Nationals b/c I was an Expos fan back when they were in beautiful Montreal. I will be rooting for the Red Sox.
-
Who is everyone rooting for this postseason? I am hoping for an Indians - Nationals World Series.
-
Nothing to do until mid November except for a few minutes entering arbitration. I need to find something else to help me stay awake during endless bureaucrat meetings during the day.

Maui Tacos - I love the new name!!! I lived in Hawaii for 6 years, and I went to Maui Tacos as often as possible. Usually ordered La Perouse or the Hawaiian BBQ burrito. Aloha, and welcome to the league.
-
Congrats, Spa City! Looking forward to my first full season in this league!

Congrats, Spa City, on a dominant season.

Thanks very much Dale. Zimmerman wound up being a great add. I bid on him as a lottery ticket (based on his exit velocity) and b/c I had "punted" on 1B & Util. I also got lucky with another $1 Ryan... Ryan "Scooter" Gennett was great as a platoon MI. The two Ryans were much more valuable than a lot of players I spent way more $ on.
-
I will add my congrats to Spa City on a dominant season. Took over the league lead back on May 6th and never looked back. Just missed hitting 20K for the year. That $1 Zimmerman add shortly after the start of the season is probably the transaction of the year.
-
Thanks guys. I can't believe baseball season is over. I hope everybody returns for next year. I look forward to the hot stove league.
-
Congrats Spa City, definitely a well fought victory. We will get a new champion next year though! Time for postseason baseball!
-
Congrats to Spa City for winning the championship in dominating fashion. So many great moves at the right time. From Zimmerman, Judge and Thames at the beginning of the year, to picking up Stanton and Carrasco at the stretch run. Nearly a 4-year championship streak, very impressive indeed.

Cabrera and Jose Bautista are close in the Junior Circuit LVP race. In the NL I think Joc Pederson and Starling Matte are LVP contenders.
-
I think Miguel Cabrera should get Least Valuable Player. His actual point total this year compared to what he was projected to do has to be the worst of anyone.
-
Who would the fantasy "Least Valuable Player" be? To qualify, they need to be eligible for MVP in terms of plate appearances or innings. My vote goes to Gerrit Cole.
-
Altuve is outrageous, and he should win the AL MVP this year.
-
By the way, my fantasy MVP is Altuve. If you guys think about it, I think some will agree.

If Cole puts it together and has a Cy Young caliber season for the Winnetka Cubs next year, I will hate him even more than I already do. He can reach 101 mph with his 4 seamer, and he has quality 2 seam sinking fastball, low-90s slider, and an impressive change in the mid-80s. He has every tool to be a dominant starter. But he is so HR prone and he does not generate nearly as many Ks as he should. I can't figure him out. So I wrote him off as an under-performing bum (probably prematurely).
-
Spa City, don't you realize the curse doesn't work when you pick up a division rival? If Cole were to get traded to the Cubs, I would tend to agree.

Winnetka, I fear you have cursed yourself with the extremely frustrating Gerrit Cole. As a Pirate fan, I hope he bounces back next year. But having watched him at least a dozen times this year, I am much happier with him on your team than on the Thoroughbreds.
-
I think I might put Jose Ramirez over Aaron Judge just for the fact that he is $6 and his position eligibility.
-
My fantasy MVP would be Aaron Judge. 8.3 P/G and he played almost every game. Mike Trout has 9+ P/G, which is outrageous, but he missed 2 months.
-
If we gave a fantasy "Most Valuable Player" who would everyone's top vote be?
-
Wayyy too much free time on my hands today. That's the downside (upside?) to being a bureaucrat... nothing to do for long stretches of time. Anyway, Gerrit Cole was awful this year. If anybody wants him, he is all yours on the waiver wire.
-
I just noticed that. I am not sure I like it. I think it removes an advantage for owners who did the math, and the new P/G and P/IP column makes it easier to make lineup decisions. It makes the game easier, but I am not sure it makes it more interesting or fun. Not a problem - just a preference.
-
I love the addition of p/g and p/ip to the stats.
-
Granted, this year they actually have a pitcher deserving the Cy Young, and last year they did not.
-
Being a huge Red Sox fan I agree with all of that Spa City. Securing that division and keeping players healthy should be their only focus right now. We don't need a repeat of last year, get a Cy Young winner and have him impload in the off-season.
-
I watched him tonight also. 2017 is noteworthy for the extreme K and HR rates, and Sale lived up to both tonight. 8 Ks and 4 HRs in 5 IP. That's 2017 baseball. But my POV remains that Sale is focused on strikeout records, and Farrell is not helping by letting Sale do whatever he wants. Rest him for the playoffs. They might need him for the wild card game at this rate.
-
Yeah I was watching the game. You could tell he was just trying get strikeouts and nothing else. Trying to overpower guys and the result was not good, everything was either a strikeout or a homerun.
-
Sale has given up four bombs already. Watching the game, working too hard for the strikeout.

I could have waited until the off season, but I can't stand even watching these two guys pitch and I already know they aren't keepers at their prices. I'm can't stand watching Gerrit Cole either, but he occasionally looks unhittable so I still don't know what to make of him.
-
I have to start proof-reading my messages. My grammar is awful!

I agree with Winnetka about both Sale and Schwarber. For a former pitcher and pitching coach, John Farrell is really bad at handling pitchers - rotation and bullpen alike. When you are up by 6 runs against a bad team, you don't let Sale pitch 8 innings and throw 115 pitches. That is why you have a bullpen. Farrell does this kind of thing all the time.
-
If any of you get a chance to watch any Cubs games the rest of the year, Schwarber has his groove back. That lineup in ultra deep and dangerous now. I tried to get 12/1 on the Cubs repeating last week, no chance.

The last four out of ten starts by Sale have been poor with one mediocre start as well. Playoffs are brutal on pitchers. It will be to the Dodgers, Cubs, Nats and Indians advantage that there aces missed some time this year. I've watched Sale pitch in Chicago for many years, and he always fades out at the end of the season. No way we he remains dominant in the playoffs.

He was fantastic the other day in his last start - that was a fun game to watch. But I don't think Farrell should let Sale throw 115+ pitches at this point in the season. They could have easily gone to the bullpen an inning earlier and kept him under 100 pitches, but he wanted to get his 300th strikeout that night - even though it was an away game.
-
I don't see Sale falling apart. He has thrown a lot, but his last game he still put up 13 strikeouts in 8 innings of shutout ball. I think he will still be quite the weapon in the playoffs.
-
Farrell constantly lets Sale throw too many pitches. Sale is a hot head who gets his feelings ouchy when he gets pulled before he is ready to come out. Farrell kisses his ass and lets him do it. They are sacrificing Sale's playoff stamina for the sake of setting a Sox record for strikeouts.
-
I was never all that enamoured with Lester as a Fangrapghs player. I think he will be fine, not great for the playoffs. Once again, I think the x-factor is Schwarber. He is heating up and starting to look very comfortable at the plate. I see Sale fading in the playoffs. He traditionally breaks down at the end of the year, it wii be interesting how he holds up if the Red Sox go deep in the postseason.
