Excellent news. Leagues are better with continuity, especially the defending champion. Welcome back Team Name.

Just a quick league update that Team Name is returning to defend his title in 2019.

Team Name only expired on Sunday. It could have simply been an expired credit card number that then failed to auto-renew. I won't give them long before opening the teams up for new owners.
-
BTBL's last activity was January 31, and Team Name has expired. Both teams missed the draft. I am up for whatever the group thinks is best. But my suggestion is set a time limit and if there is no activity we need new owners.
-
I reached out to both of our missing owners early this morning. I will abandon the teams if I don't hear something back from them shortly.
-
Team Name's team seems to have expired.
-
Does anybody have buyer's remorse for any of your draftees? Or an excess at one position you don't need? Let's make a deal.

Draft Day is finally here. I'll get set up - ready to kick things off at 8.30.
-
Kershaw's "arm issue" sounds like it could affect his price a bit.
-
Quick reminder that our auction draft is quickly approaching. Next Tuesday, Feb 26th, beginning at 8:30ET, 7:30CT, 6:30MT and 5:30PT.
-
I think everyone is fading Kershaw too much. I don't quite understand all of the projection systems putting him for over a 3 ERA. If he can stay healthy I don't see why we shouldn't expect 170+ innings of great pitching. If an "off" season for him is still a 1.04 WHIP with almost a 20% K-BB rate sign me up. I also think the strikeouts come back.
-
First nominee will be Ohtani. It will be interesting to see how the bidding goes for him when everybody has all of their money. I'll guess he goes for $30+.
-
How about Clayton Kershaw? I'll say $28 league wide average hammer price.

Ohtani was protected quite a bit last year in terms of match ups, pitch counts and days of rest. Yet he still, most likely needs TJ. No way I would pay over $15 for him.

Nice Airplane! reference. I predict Squirrels pick up someone from the Red Sox, Sliders pick up a player from the Twins org, Winnetka grabs someone in the Cubs org, Spa sends out his first trade offer 47 seconds after the auction ends, and I regret not cutting more guys in January.
-
I don't know what to make of Ohtani (brooch, hat, pterodactyl...) He is hurt for some unknown number of weeks & he won't pitch all year & half of next year. He will regress from his .350 BABIP last year. Is he limited to DH? Will he play OF (seems doubtful with his arm healing)? I had not though of starting with him. But it will be interesting to see how high the bidding can go for him especially when everybody has all their $. Sounds like a plan.
-
I say first nomination is Ohtani and first round avg. is $28
-
I'll predict average 1st round salary is $29.
-
Anybody care to make predictions about the draft? Biggest over-pay, best value, which team forgets the draft date? How about this one - predict the average salary for first-round draftees (1st 12 picks)? Or (the one thing I can control in the draft...) who is the first player nominated?
-
Btw, the seven most profitable teams were the Cubs, Phillies, Red Sox, Giants, Astros, Dodgers and Brewers. Then there is a sizable jump. The Cubs operating income was $102 million last year. This whole nonsense that I read by some baseball pundits about the Cubs having no money is incredibly laughable.

Based on what I deduce from the CBA and looking at past financials of the Pirates, Drays and Marlins, the Yankees pay in over $100 million year in revenue sharing, while the previously mentioned teams receive $50-$70 million annually. This is all quite shocking to me. Teams like the Pirates and Padres and the Drays are more profitable than the Yankees.

My old accounting nerdiness was in full force yesteday. I spent like four hours digging up financial information on MLB. I found out several interesting items. The Yankees netted only $14 million last year. Their ticket and suite revenue was down well over $100 million per year since 2009.

I also hope that the universal DH is not implemented. Not gonna happen, but it would be interesting if the game went the other directions and players were forced to rotate through all positions throughout a game, so that all 9 players would pitch one inning, play catcher one inning, play left field one inning, etc. That would lower the quality of the defense/pitching and change what type of player would reach the majors, but it would be interesting to see.
-
I coach 9U travel, and absolutely no DH - not even a discussion about it. DH is F---ed up. You know who else can't hit? Catchers. Look at their numbers. Why not DH for them, too? Better yet - just stop with the damn DH. Baseball does not need cobstant offense.
-
I would be very disappointed if MLB adopts the universal DH. If anything, I would rather see the DH dropped. I’m a baseball purest, I don’t like to see drastic changes in tye game and I view pitchers as baseball players. In youth baseball, a team’s best pitcher is often the team’s best hitter. Now I hear, youth baseball is adopting the DH.

I say Harper to the Cubs/Phillies and Machado to the White Sox/Phillies. Phillies get one of them the other goes to the alternate team. I also say Yes to Universal DH, I like the extra strategy and watching pitchers hit but the payoff of not having pitchers get needlessly hurt outweighs that.
-
24 man roster means 1 less pitcher, and fewer pitching changes. Or keep 25, and only let (e.g. 20) be active for each game. Either way, fewer pitching changes.
-
Batting glove adjustment is a learned behavior that does nothing but buy time. Get in the box, and stay in there, ready to hit, between pitches. Watch video of pre-Reggie Jackson basebll, and you see what I mean.
-
Best way to speed up the game - Ban batting gloves. I HATE watching hitters adjust their gloves for 45 seconds every...single...pitch.
-
I oppose universal DH. My rule change ideas: 1) Eliminate inter-league play. 2) Reduce rosters to 24 players. 3) Scale back to 154 games. 4) Force batters to remain in the box between pitches, and pitchers to get ready to pitch (call a strike or ball as penalty for needless delays).
-
What do you guys think of the talk about making the DH universal? I personally do not like it.

The Cubs and Giants were in trade talks involving Heyward and a Cubs pitching prospect for Melacon and W Smith. The Giants wanted the Cubs to add Happ but the Cubs balked as they want to save Happ for trading for controllable pitching down the raod.

When the Bulls were doing well, the Reinsdorf's were more than happy to run the White Sox at break even as the Sox were Jerry's true love. That is why the Sox seemed to be big spenders in the past. None of this is b.s. The Reinsdorf's are neighbors of mine, I've done real estate investments with them and were told all of this directly by them.

The Cubs are set to launch their own network next year that will net them an additional 100 million per year which will put the Cubs just behind the Yankees and ahead of the Dodgers.
As far as Machado, he may very well sign in Philadelphia. They are the only team that really wants him. I doubt the White Sox sign him. They have been aggressive in the past, but how much the Reinsdorf's spend on the White Sox depends on how well the Bulls do. The White Sox and Bulls ownership is linked.

Harper does not want to sign with the Phillies and live in Stankadelphia. That much is very clear to me. Harper is giving the Cubs the last shot at signing him, per my source. I could see a 2-3 year deal with the Cubs or maybe the Yankees. There will be a new CBA by then and it will be much more free agent friendly. The media reports that the Cubs don't have the money is laughable. The Cubs were 3rd in the MLB in revenue in 2017.

Any predictions about when/where Machado & Harper will sign? I know how unlikely it is but I will predict the Phillies sign both of them within the next week.

Welcome JS, Jr. to the best league around. Looking forward to a great 2019 season with you on board.

I will be ready on time. Draft day is always fun - I'll make sure I am ready to go.
