DeGrom's pinpoint control on his 101 fastball is really impressive. The slider is nearly impossible to hit early in the game. I wonder what % he throws the slider for strikes. Every time I see a swing and miss on the slider it falls completely out of the strike zone. The problem lately is that the slider seems to work for only 3-4 innings and then it loses its bite If I were a manager, I would have my team sit on thefastball early and force DeGrom to the throw the slider as much as possible
-
have the greatest single season ever for a SP.
-
We were going over DeGrom's three year run, you are forgetting maybe the most impressive one, Kershaw. Gibson's season in 1968 is amazing with that low of an ERA and 28 complete games. How did he lose 9 games that year? The Cards must have been shut out the majority of those that he lost, but it was the dead ball era, and the mound was much higher. It is hard to fathom a better run than what Kershaw did from 2011-2017. I do admit, if DeGrom holds up this season, he has a great chance to
-
DeGrom is having a season that fans will talk about like Steve Carlton in 72, Koufax in 66, or Gibson in 68. But at the same time, it is weird watching him. I just get the sense he is pushing it past the limit of his body every game. I hope he holds up. I just don’t know how he can do it.
-
I watch over half of the Mets games. I like listening to Keith Hernandez and Darling. I watched DeGrom yesterday afternoon. As dominant as DeGrom has been and still is. There is a sense of concern that I detect from the broadcast team. If you watched yesterday, DeGrom lost his slider by the fourth inning. It is reminiscent of Chris Sale.
-
I know this much - I am not catching either of you this year. But to keep it interesting I would sell players on my trade block, and would take a discount if there is an interesting deal out there.
-
Also if you haven't had a chance to watch a deGrom start yet I would definitely encourage you to try to catch one. It is remarkable. He is pitching at a level I'm not sure I have ever seen in my lifetime.
-
Totally agree with all of that. The nice thing is I have enough depth that as soon as Cobb, Bassitt, Jansen, Melancon, etc. quit performing I can quit starting them without really missing a beat.
-
I get Taylor, Schwarber and Olson, all are talented hitters imo. If Degrom keeps this up, it will be the best season ever, at least modern era. I like Gausman and maybe Eovaldi if he can hold up. But I will say Cobb, Bassitt, Jansen and Melancon are a huge surprise. Cobb’s previous five years, 3.09ppi, Baltimore didnt want him anymore!
-
Right now I have Chris Taylor, Matt Olson, Kyle Schwarber, and Buster Posey who could all be having career years on offense, and pitching I have DeGrom, Gausman, Eovaldi, Boyd, Bassitt and Stroman who could all be having career best years.
-
Haha. I can't wait till your pitching staff blows up. Keep on starting Cobb and Bassit! How many of your players are having career or near career years? It's a long season.
-
220 points… with around 90 points on the bench. That is quite a day!
-
I'm giving Winnetka a gift of allowing him to hang on to first place today since he is a father and I am not. Tomorrow though he will find no such courtesy.
-
Happy Father’s Day!
-
Happy Father's Day everyone!
-
16 of Perez's starts have been at DH, but still impressive.
-
Simmons was so good. So glad to see him in the Hall.
-
Hall of Famer Ted Simmons caught 161 in 1973.
-
To be fair the list I was looking at was games played not games started.
-
Salvador Perez??? Wow! When is the last time a catcher ever started 162 games?
-
Ripken’s record is safe. Cy Young’s 511 wins seems just as safe. I can’t imagine either record falling.
-
Might be the safest record in all of baseball.
-
I guess Cal Ripken’s consecutive game streak is safe for a few decades if not forever
-
Blue Jays will probably squeeze as many games from Semien as they can. Same for Mariners and Seager. Both are in their walk years. I would not be surprised to see players in situations like that play as many games as possible.
-
I will say the list of guys who have played in every game so far is larger than I anticipated it being. Kyle Seager, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Nick Solak, Nate Lowe, Trea Turner, Rhys Hoskins, Dansby Swanson, Carlos Santana, Whit Merrifield, Salvador Perez, Jose Ramirez, Vlad Guerrero Jr, Marcus Semien, Bo Bichette, and Randal Grichuk, all still have a chance at 162.
-
I agree, I don't think it is going away. As frustrating as it is for fans who want to watch the best players play every day and even more frustrating for fantasy owners who need our best players out on the field, it is the smart thing for teams to do.
-
The trend of throwing 12+ year, huge $ contracts at elite players is making those players too risky to use everyday. Betts, Trout, Harper… a lot of these guys will wind up playing 120-130 games a year. Meanwhile, younger players will play a ton of different positions to allow stars to adhere to specific usage patterns. It’s the new normal. Frustrating for fans, and it makes fantasy baseball tougher. But it’s probably here to stay.
-
I don’t think things are ever going back. NBA is the new model for sports “load management”. Even in the playoffs, injuries are keeping many of the top-tier stars off the court. MLB is going to slide more and more into new “usage patterns” designed to prolong careers of players who earn so much $.
-
I've been very lucky with my pitching health, but I think this is the worst I have experienced in regards to position player injuries and guys getting "rest". I'm really tired of $30m/year superstars taking a game off a week.
-
At least your pitchers still dropped 188 points.
-
11 out of my 20 position players were out today. This is ridiculous.
-
That was an incredible AB!

Amazing AB! Love Riz

Hard to find deals when we are all looking for the same thing-getting better for next year. Anyway count me in if anybody is interested in offering on any of my guys. Maybe we have different valuations on talent.

Send over some ideas Spa City... I enjoy the conversations

Are any non-contenders (like me) interested in trade talks to help keep the game interesting? Filling out a lineup card everyday in hopes of finishing 3rd (if I’m lucky) just doesn’t keep me invested in the game.
-
Yeah I can't argue you with you there. The only reason I have any ounce of a desire for him to succeed is for my fantasy team.
-
It’s nothing against the Squirrels - purely against Chapman himself. I don’t want to root for any player to be injured. But Chapman is one of a handful of players who I wouldn’t feel bad thinking he deserves some divine justice in the form of a ligament injury.
-
Chapman's fastball tonight was only 95-96, he was throwing 101 everytime I watched him before this. He couldn't throw his slider either. I don't think I have ever seen Chapman tagged like that. None of the four hits were cheap. Both home runs were positively hammered into the 2nd deck straight away centerfield.
-
Oh Chapman... why...
-
As the other horse I am always looking for more studs.
-
Trying to stay active, though I am not really in the race anymore. This league is probably a 2 horse race, with Winnetka a strong favorite. I am looking to trade Pete Alonso, Alex Verdugo, Blake Snell, Aaron Nola, and maybe a few others. More to keep it interesting than anything else. Trade talks might not come to a deal, but they keep the game alive when you are out of the race.
-
I started watching EPL and the Champions League a few years ago. This year I started watching Cricket - I have been watching the England - New Zealand Test Match this week, and I’ll be watching the Pakistan Super League next week. I lost interest in Hockey when Quebec City didn’t get an expansion team, and I lost interest in NFL and NBA for other reasons. Cricket and Soccer are relaxing to watch and great sports once you get used to them. Good replacements for NFL, NBA and NHL.
-
Am English and still play soccer in an over 30’s league. My favorite sport!

I am awful at this. I'll keep playing just for fun but everything I try still I wind up going nowhere.
-
I played soccer all through high school so while I am not an avid fan I still enjoy watching some of the big games.
-
I don't think I have ever been that bored to watch soccer.
-
I also don’t like either team. I’m a Liverpool fan, and I always root for Brighton to avoid relegation. But the Champions League final is always good. Crazy game. It’s like Stanley Cup hockey - full speed the entire game. No down time.
-
I usually do, but don't like either team so I didn't watch. I guess I should have!
