2 seasons into the (1/4 Billion $) Strasburg contract, and he has a total of 0 WAR, and now needs thoracic outlet surgery. That may wind up being the worst contract in sports history.
-
New article on the Trevor Bauer situation.
https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/story/2021-07-25/trevor-bauer-dodgers-timeline
-
Yankees could take advantage of the situation and trade Gerritt Cole’s absurd contract to the Dodgers. They will never go into “sell” mode but they should consider it.
-
I would love Rizzo and/or Kimbrel to the Red Sox, but not sure if that will happen. Also am thinking Berrios or Scherzer to the Dodgers.
-
I'll go Bryant and a RP to the Mets for 3 non top 100 prospects.
-
Flying Squirrels I was going to post something about Gray. I watched him pitch and you are right. In addition it was a super tight strike zone that night and he got a couple of bad calls that led to at least one of those home runs.
-
Any predictions for trade deadline deals? I’ll predict Rizzo to the Red Sox for Bobby Dalbec and a pitching prospect I’ve never heard of.
-
If anyone knows someone looking to play in this league they could have my team as I will not be returning next season. I've just been playing out the schedule, but it might be better for the league to have a more active player down the stretch.

Josiah Gray gave up 3 homeruns so especially in the realm of this league looks super bad, but it really wasn't a bad debut. 7 k's, 1 BB, and 4 hits in 4 innings against a good SFG offense isn't bad.
-
Well, Jo Jo Gray fans were left disheartened a bit, but still hopeful that greatness is just around the corner.
-
Thoroughbreds fans across the country can’t wait to see Jo Jo Gray pitch! The former LeMoyne Dolphin belongs on an upstate NY team like Spa City.
-
Yeah it is going to be an interesting trade season because there are so many teams that normally would be selling that may decide to hang on and see if they can make a second half run.
-
You were right on Davis.
-
Mets were supposedly going to have DeGrom, Carrasco and Syndergaard leading the best rotation in the game. Dodgers are facing a similar situation without Kershaw, Bauer and May. There is no such thing as too much SP.
-
I don’t know what the overall rate of injuries is this year, but it sure seems like a lot of star players have missed a lot of games. Trout, Bellinger, Betts, Acuna, Tatis, Flaherty, Eloy, Robert, Bieber, Bregman, Rendon, Seager, Mondesi, Buxton, Strasburg… now Lindor and maybe DeGrom. It could open up the playoff possibilities to teams that stay healthy, even if they don’t have as much talent. Kind of like Phoenix Suns.
-
Yeah forearm tightness is always a terrible sign, but I'm going to remain optimistic until we hear some concrete bad news.
-
$6.5M for Henry Davis.
-
Usually “forearm tightness” news is soon followed by some weak denials about any “structural damage,” but within a week its’s TJ time. But all year we have been hearing about DeGrom maybe being injured, but he has always followed those worries with more dominant pitching. I’ll believe he is hurt when he actually hits the DL.
-
I just read the bad news on DeGrom.
-
Nice!! Great to hear.
-
It’s opening day at Saratoga! The Spa City is back in action! Last year they ran the races, but nobody could attend. I watched from a bar across the street all last year. This year, full capacity, no restrictions. 50,000 people having a great day.
-
Nope, got postponed due to Yankees COVID outbreak.
-
No Yankee-Red Sock game tonight?
-
I am no longer Hungry like the Wolf today, Duran Duran day has been postponed.
-
We will know soon enough. I predict they sign all of their draft picks this year. Lonnie White is a local kid who needs to choose between Penn St football as a receiver and Pittsburgh as an outfielder. I bet he takes the safer choice and signs with the Pirates. Chandler could play QB at Clemson, but he wouldn’t start for a couple years with Uiagaleilei ahead of him. I bet he takes the Bucs’ offer also.
-
I agree with Winnetka on Davis. I think he could have gone #1 to a lot of different teams and I don't think his deal would be much below his slot if at all.
-
I disagree with your take on the league's perception on Davis. I think there were quite a few other teams that would have taken him #1. I'm guessing that the Pirates won't sign all three high school arms.
-
I bet Davis signs for under $7M. Would he really return to Louisville in hopes of being a top 5 pick again next year? If so, Pirates get the #2 pick plus their own pick. Just my guess. I think they knew Davis’ demand was relatively low and that’s why they drafted Solometo, White and Chandler.
-
I don't think Davis is getting a below slot deal. At least not a significant one.
-
Flying Squirrels, I agree with on both Rocker and on Wicks.
-
Pirates took Davis (whom I assume agreed to a below slot deal), then 3 prep school pitchers including Chandler and Solometo who were 1sr round talents, then all the rest of their picks were college seniors (presumably getting all below slot deals). If they sign Solometo and Chandler, that’s 3 of the top 15-20 prospects in the draft. Could be a day to remember for the Pirates.
-
Plus… if Dabo Swinney loses his QB recruit, everybody in college football outside South Carolina wins 🥳
-
If the Bucs can sign both Solometo and Chandler, presumably with money saved by Davis agreeing to a below slot deal, it is a big bonus to Pittsburgh. Solometo and Chandler could both have been round 1 picks.
-
I think you should definitely be happy as a Cubs fan as well. A lefty with a plus changeup and excellent command. I am not sure if you can build a safer floor as a pitcher than that.
-
I also think it is crazy that Rocker fell to 10. It seems like it was just prospect fatigue and there is no reason he shouldn't have gone in the top 5. I also think Davis as #1 was the correct choice.
-
I think this is one of the first years that I can remember that the Cubs drafted a pitcher in the 1st round that I can be somewhat excited about.
-
I think I mentioned to Spa I would take Davis ahead of all the high schoolers over a month ago. I don't like drafting kids that young that high up. Too much happens in the four to five years between being drafted and the time for them to be called up. I was mostly amazed that Rocker fell to 10th.
-
I am amazed that Mayer fell to the Red Sox!
-
Henry Davis it is!
-
That said… I have assumed for months the Pirates would draft Marcelo Meyer, but I would not be shocked if they draft Henry Davis first. He would presumably sign well below slot, and catchers who are above average with the glove and bat are so valuable. I could see Davis going #1, and I could see that choice working out pretty well.
-
Not that I don’t think Davis, Rocker or Leiter will be worth it. Just that Carroll would be drafted ahead of all of them if he was in the rule 4 draft tonight.
-
If Corbin Carroll was in the draft tonight, he would clearly be the #1 overall draft pick. He is younger than Jack Leiter, Kumar Rocker or Henry Davis, and all 3 of them will go for at least $3 after they sign… before they play a single game at the A ball level.
-
Thanks! 3rd place is probably my team’s ceiling. But I’ll try to at least stay close enough to make it interesting.
-
I was complimenting him on that a few weeks ago. In 3rd place and he has about a third of the salary that I do!
-
How about Spa City? $193 in salaries and in 3rd place, impressive!
-
Speaking of, Trout was a very good extension. But point well taken on the Angels bad decisions and Rendon being one of the worst ones.
-
Ohtani is somewhat different situation. It wasn’t a true free agent acquisition. More of a recruitment, mostly because of Trout.
-
LeMahieu previous 195 games with the Yankees: 920 ops. Signs six year extension, next 84 games: 714 ops.
-
Why look for a silver lining with the Angels?
-
Ohtani was a pretty good FA signing 😉
