THT/CWC: I'm not sure which of you is right, but I am curious why 5 people changed their vote. Did you think you needed to so ppl would calm down? Change your mind legitimately? Just busy and away from league for 2 days?
-
Besides like he said, I made other proposals after the first one got vetoed, he preffered it that way.
-
The hullabaloo that got raised did not make anyone change their vote. If they changed their vote that was up to them.
-
So, how was the process different than the previous Hamilton trade when there was discussion then explanation and.explanation and then folks did not veto.
-
You can believe the trade went thru due to your explanations, but you and I both know that isn't true. The reality is you guys made a bigger stink about it than the rest of us, and most people didn't feel like vetoing a trade a second time. Congrats.

I tried but ran out of time. You can't propose or accept trades if you're over the cap. Thanks Eric! He should help.
-
Seth Smith is okay. He is a backup OF. Your not making a trade, you were making a waiver pickup. Hence no one to trade you money. You could have shopped seth around and seen if you could sell him off.

talked about, and then it made more sense hopefully to folks. I may dislike other trades that have happened. Like the Beltre trade and others, that does not mean I vetoed them. I congratuled the two parties that worked something out.
-
The trade went through after explaining the logic of what the two people were thinking as opppsed to letting people assume. Also, if you go back a few months it is similiar to what happened with the previous Hamilton trade. People were up in arms, it got

Seth Smith has 332 points in 75 games.(Is he better than your OFs?)He is also running for President and I am his campaign manager. He is a member of the redwhiteandblue party and is in favor of having baseball played 24/7.So Vote for(and nominate)Seth!
-
I had to cut Seth Smith yesterday for cap space but he is a valuable OF.After Marlon Byrd is picked up Seth Smith is the highest producing free agent available. He would make a good 4th, 5th, or back up outfielder especially if you who have a shallow OF.
-
Sorry to beat a dead horse, but the moral of the story here, as I see it is if you don't get want you want, complain, complain, complain, until you do. Nice to see the SAME trade went thru without any changes being made. Can't say that I'm loving this.

@SR: Yeah, I love Bartolo and sure hope he's clean this year. Last thing the A's need is another steroid tainted player
-
Roid league baseball. They just need a league where it is and the OF is 100 ft deeper.
-
I think PEDs should be legal.
-
since I wasn't going to keep him. Maybe the best thing would have been to let people know I was shopping him (I did offer him to CC for Sano) so it didn't seem fishy.
-
I agree with Balfour, I just value Bruxton more highly. I could have gotten Sandoval or something else potentially, but I didn't want anyone else that he was willing to trade. And I figure I might as well get something for Longoria,
-
It is kind of cloudy and 66 degrees right now in California.
-
The only thing I hold against Bartolo would be the PEDs.
-
Ding ding ding, we have a winner. What John V. (Steel Reign) said.

Anyway, I just have to say that Bartolo Colon is one of my FAVORITE pitchers.I didn't like that he beat the Buccos but he is so non-chalant, it's hilarious! He and Balfour are such a great combination. Best of luck to the A's for the rest of the season.
-
I think my Hamilton trade went through because he's really not playing up to his contract (or people didn't care cause I'm in 10/11th haha). I guess that's why the veto is better because people can use their discretion.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure if we'll need a rule but I still think the money is the issue. We know that Buxton should be great and HD loves him but if we don't have the capspace for the big player then we should clear capspace or lose out.
-
Also: @$%#%^$%&$%&$% 3 hour rain delays!!! Why do I not live in Norcal again?
-
That said, 7 people voted against this. That's pretty compelling. If there are still 7 veteos after having heard CWC and HD make their cases, I'd hope there could be some changes made to the deal that would allow to pass (assuming CWC and HD still wantto)
-
I let this go thru b/c at times each of us may have an unusual opinion about a player and be willing to engage in what appears to be a lopsided trade to get (or get rid of) him. I trust that folks know the risks they are taking in trades.
-
The core issue seems to be that HD is valuing Buxton more highly than the rest of us. A trade that seems lopsided to the league is just fine for HD b/c he gets Buxton.
-
Re $ limit: I'd rather see people use their veto if they are concerned about the $ in a trade than adding a rule that could get difficult to enforce (ie we might decide we want to make an exception or two later and the fairness of that could get tricky)
-
John already has 35$ of incoming loans for his team. So, he is essential using 435 this year of buying power.
-
He obviously targeted the player and made the evaluation that is how he wanted it. We did not even exchange any emails before the offer. It was there waiting for me, and I considered it at that point with the info I had.
-
The money was to make the trade work. Other loans have been for plenty of cash. I did not have the cap space for him to make the offer so the only way he could do it was to offer him with the cash.
-
you get extra cap space to use for bidding purposes in auctions. This is why I vetoed the trade.
-
the person dumping the big contract needs to eat the salary for that year. The penalty for getting rid of the salary is that you then don't have extra bidding power for auctions the rest of the season. If you get $30 for getting rid of Longoria, then...
-
Johnny V's reasoning is exactly why I vetoed the trade. If it were Buxton for Longoria straight up, then I would have approved it. Devaluing Longoria to $5, even for half a season, is not appropriate, in my mind. I'm ok with salary dump trades, but...
-
I really don't care as much as it may seem. I didn't even veto it.I'm just trying to help nail down the real problem if there is one.We all get $400 for a reason so why should someone get $430 or $480 even if its only for a season? We play to win seasons.
-
I would think that the trade was vetoed because of the money. I agree that undervalued players are the commodities but in this trade longoria becomes undervalued because he essentially costs $5 at his top potential even if its only for this year.
-
FWIW, I wasn't necessarily supporting it, I was just saying that it should not be something we implement this season. John can bring it up after the season and we can vote on it for next year.

Thats the whole point. The reason you can trade a good player with a high salary for a young good potential prospect with a low one is that you can trade that players salary along with them.
-
just like most fantasy keeper leagues with salaries, are players who are underpriced with high ceilings. If you limit the amount of money that can be traded everything will be less fluid.
-
I just think people are putting too much value into the idea of the money and the cap space v. players. Sure the money matters a small amount this year, but it is finite and it gets cleared at the end of a season. The real commodity in this league
-
Agreed. We would need to vote on it for next season

I'm fine with that, though I think it would be best to make it a rule for upcoming seasons. Just because I already have 2 loans going out of 30+ and maybe a third. Doesn't seem like it be right to cap it now.
-
Hi Buddy!

Well, I have to admit, the message board certainly became more interesting!

most of the contract instead of getting a giant loan. We know that the money is not an issue at the end of the season but it can be an issue now. Right? Wrong?
-
Shoot it down if it's a bad idea but . . . What does everyone think of having a cap on money traded?? 10 or 15? Isn't that the real problem here?? We know buxton should be great in a few years and Longoria is great now but just make the owner pay . . .
-
We're not just playing for this season, John said its a league for life. I intend to play it that way too.
-
I'm in another keeper league too and I hate when someone in the lead or running for it gets an advantage for that season (especially if I'm also in the running to win) but that doesn't make it unfair.
-
I told CWC Longoria would clinch it cause you sell trades, not cause there is some hidden agenda. Besides John Davis can tell you I've cursed CWC for over bidding me on just about every player I've wanted.
